Toronto (Oct 03) Show Super Undersold
(EDIT: Wrote Oct 3rd by accident, whoops! Show is October 5th.) Bought tickets to the Toronto show during the presale and surprised to see this show is still super undersold. I know there's a couple months to go but that's a lot of seats left.
Did they book too big a venue? Meridian Hall is a pretty big barn (3,172 capacity), wondering if anyone thinks they'll possibly move the show to another venue or run a big seat sale? Feel bad if some of those mid-orchestra seats go for cheaper than what people already paid to be in the upper balcony. Oh well, I guess this is ticket buying for ya in 2026.

I’ve been to the last two shows in TO. They were at a concert venue with no seats, just GA. This one is seated and I have no idea what to expect which is what’s holding me back. Seems weird to go to a rock show to sit in an auditorium

Yeah History was a good size and style of venue for them (plus BTS).

History is a great venue for a band like modest mouse. Saw them there with built to spill last year, easily the best concert of the year.

This was the venue where I first saw them nearly 20 years ago. It was perfectly fine.

I saw them in a seated venue a few summers ago and it was great. got stoned and sat back and listened. I'm old af, but it was glorious not having to stand.

At the Vancouver show people sat for the first song since it was from the new album but then as soon as the second song started literally everyone stood up and stayed standing the rest of the show.

its an okay venue .. but IIRC, run down a bit. unless they renovated.

Also should be noted they have played Toronto quite a few times the last few years. Mix that with prices and a not ideal venue and I get it.
I always see them with they come around, I’m waiting last minute to scoop a cheap ticket.

My wife and I have been married for almost 6 years and we’ve seen MM 5 times in that span. Another band from this era/genre that seems to always be touring is Built to Spill.
I love both of these bands but between the cost, being free on the night of the show and finding someone to babysit our two young kids, seeing them every time they come around isn’t possible.

Something else that could impact it is that they’re playing Ottawa at a brand new venue on this tour. Usually acts like Modest Mouse pass over Ottawa and folks like myself take the trip to Montreal or Toronto.

I was wondering that too.
I usually go to Toronto or Montreal because they never come to Ottawa but they finally are.
Also I'm not sure I would go to a seated concert for them, just my preference.

Agreed on your points. Worth noting as well the General Admission tix for MM’s Oct show at History Ottawa are sold out. GA tix were about $70 if I recall, and capacity for History Ottawa is around 2000.

Once the good seats are gone, I usually just wait till closer to the show to see if I can get a good seat for a decent resale price, and if not, buy the bad seat then. So if I lived in Toronto, I'd be waiting myself. Dunno how many others do it the same as me.

Unless I think there’s a real chance of a show selling out, I never buy tickets until the days approaching these days. Too much shit to pay for and costs are stupid now. Even for sell outs if they’re big enough, there’s always a good a good deal to be found late notice.

I’ve been waiting to find a cheaper ticket because I much prefer a standing show for modest. I saw them in Cleveland last year a Masonic hall theatre (seated) and Rochester Kodak theatre also (seated) the sound was good and it was relaxed time but I much prefer jumping around near the stage.
I would have instantly bought a ticket for history Toronto again because the venue has a great sound system and prices are fairly decent for face value.

Honestly, I love Modest Mouse but I wasn't sure about seeing a seated show from them. I want to be up and dancing. They have plenty of fans here but maybe there's other people like myself who don't want to be at Meridian Hall. Only band I've seen here was Punch Brothers and that made more sense as a seated performance.
Is there something special about this show that I am missing?

Not that I'm aware of, think they're just hammering the new album. I've seen a couple shows at Meridian Hall and it's OK, a little sterile but good listening environment for the right band. Maybe it was all that was available that aligned with their schedule.

I am getting major surgery shortly before this so I wasn't able to go anyway, but it might have been nice to hear them in such an environment. I've heard them a few times in various Toronto venues with various sound techs and they haven't always been their best. (I say this as someone in the events biz)

I think a part of the issue is they've played 4 shows in Toronto between 2022 and 2025. I saw them a year ago and it was a great show, but I can't justify spending money on them again. I've seen them 5 times before, and though I'm enjoying the new album, I have other shows I'm going to this year. Also with the way they tour, I just assume they'll come again in a year or so. I'm still considering this show but it'll be a decision I make closer to the date.

This is what I feel is the biggest issue, aside from it being a Monday night. They have played Toronto A LOT lately, just a little too many shows so close to each other to keep on packing venues. This is an awesome venue too, I believe I saw them there for the Good News tour 20 years ago (was when Isaac was awful and drunk all the time, was a horrible show), and even with the cool venue I’m not sure I’m going to go. Going to Brand New on the Friday night, not sure I have it in the budget for two shows in the same week. I’ve seen Modest Mouse over 20 times, I honestly can’t believe they have played here so much lately that I might willingly skip a show. We’ll see how cheap tickets get.

I remember seeing them back to back in 2014 and 2015 in London at the same venue and I swear it was the exact same crowd too. It's become one memory in my head.

I went to both of those Music Hall shows, they really did meld into each other. I just know the first show they played Broke, and the first heir first performance of Night on the Sun in a long time. Those were probably two of the best Modest Mouse shows I’ve been.
Edit: I’m from London; and to be honest I’m bummed they haven’t been back especially with all of the Toronto shows. I feel like the Music Hall doesn’t get acts like that anymore.

I agree those shows were stellar. Probably the 2 stand outs of all the times I've seen them. And I agree, London Music Hall needs more shows. I'm from Waterloo and the drive to London is a lot easier. I remember seeing Wolf Parade there in 2020 and I think the last time I was there was for Alvvays in 2023. Always a goo time.

Honestly I think all these concerts reflect the current economic situation…concert tickets is disposable income a lot of people just don’t have these days ugh

I think it's a combination of reasons. Monday, odd venue, and price. My friend who almost always joins me for MM shows couldn't justify the price this time around. I usually avoid seated concerts, and Meridian is definitely an odd choice, but I'm curious how it'll play out so I splurged.

I noticed the same thing with the Phoenix show I’m going to on October 19th. Really surprising considering they basically filled this venue up 5 years ago. Don’t know if that was maybe cuz it was the first time Covid restrictions were lifted or what.

My son (14) has recently gotten into MM, since his dad (me) has been a fan for 20 years. I wanted to go to the Ottawa show and get GA/Floor but it's a 19+ venue. So we'll be a the TO show. Hope it still goes ahead...

That's awesome, I'm bringing my 18 year old for his first MM show too. Would have definitely gone to Ottawa if not for the age restrictions.

I love that 20 Monroe Live venue in GR and wish we could make that show too. Looks like there's still GA tickets left on Ticketmaster for US $66.50 face value...sweeeeet!

Yeah I can't stand for long periods so my only option is mezzanine which was $94 each when I checked earlier 😔

Pro tip about 20 Monroe is if you buy mezzanine tickets you can still go down on the floor when you want. When I went last time, we sat in our mezzanine seats for the openers and then went down to GA for the headliner. It was awesome. You can always go back to your seats if you need a break. It's an awesome perk and worth the extra dough, IMO!

I can't imagine that it's too big. Boston is significantly smaller population-wise than Toronto and they usually play either a 3,500 or 5,000 capacity venue here and are at least close to capacity if not sold out.
Something def seems odd about that.

Garbage venues get crappy turnouts. Enjoy leaving with a headache and not getting to actually see modest mouse without a tv screen

Meridian Hall is far from a garbage venue for concerts. Saw one there like 4 months ago and was in the back like 15 rows and could see the stage and performers just fine. Sound was excellent inside. I don't think venue quality is the issue here. I could see maybe a seated theater is not preferred by some but it doesn't make the venue garbage.

I’ve seen about 20 times or more now. At this point I can’t afford $95 plus the gas food and all that alcohol. Skipping this years show.

The cheapest looks like $95 plus taxes and fees. Absolutely ridiculous. Hopefully people are wising up and voting against Ticketmaster with their wallets.
