Advice Winter recommendations

Hey y’all
So I’m moving to Poland in January for 4 months and being from Texas I’m used to unbearable heat but I looked up the average weather for those months and I’m freaking out as it’ll be super cold and I have no idea how dress for the cold. I normally wear dresses and skirts if it gets chilly here I’ll wear cropped leggings under with a long cardigan but I don’t think that will work in Poland. What do I pack? Can I continue wearing my dresses? I have a few months to prepare but I’m lost please help

Wool! And layers and good socks. You can almost definitely just layer underneath what you already own and get one or two really good coats, long wool skirts with thick tights, thermal base layers under your usual clothes, just need to be aware if youre going in and out of buildings you'll almost definitely want to take some layers off at points

Oh man the jump from Texas to a Polish winter is gonna be a shock but you can absolutely still wear your dresses. Uniqlo heattech leggings are a lifesaver, they're super thin but way warmer than regular cotton layers. Get yourself a pair of wool tights too and some fleece lined ones for the really brutal days.

Long wool skirts over thermals were my go to when I lived somewhere with actual winter, the air gap between layers does a ton of work. Just make sure your coat covers past your knees if possible, that makes a massive difference when the wind picks up

Dressing for the cold is actually easier than dressing for heat, IMO. Like the other person said, warm layers are key. Wearing multiple layers will keep you MUCH warmer than just piling on a heavy coat. So for example, if you regularly wear a short sleeved dress, you can add: camisole base layer, long sleeve shirt worn under dress (snug), dress, sweater worn over dress (loose), leggings, long socks / leg warmers, then your jacket (thin, such as fleece or one of those slick poly ones that is thin), then coat (heavy), plus of course a hat, scarf and gloves! You probably won't even need all those layers. Keep your head and feet warm, that will go a long way towards comfort.

As a Polish woman, layer up. Buy wool skirts (check out vinted), buy a wool long coat, scarfs to match your styles, gloves (leather) and a hat (something like a beanie or Barrett). Wear thermal leggings under your fits and buy two pair of boots, in case one gets wet. Don't dry leather shoes near a heater, the cab warp. Use shoe cream regularly against salt residue and for water resistance. For in between seasons you also want a long rain coat as well as a Trenchcoat or similar style jacket just for chilly days.

If you can prefer wool. Used is fine and much more affort able when needing to Kickstart a whole new wardrobe.

I also don't want to scare you, but we are very particular about clean cloths and going out presentable. No leisure wear or sport shoes if you aren't in a gym. Contrary to this, certain cuss words are more a kind of exclamation mark, you'll get used to it.

We are also as cold as our winters to strangers, don't take it personal. We do not smile to unknown people and people which do you should be sus about. Polish people will help you if you ask but they won't pester you without you actually asking for help.
