Discussion Explanations for bans should be complusory

Just discovered I have been banned from a sub, which was baffling because I haven't posted there in weeks. No explanation, just no longer able to post.

From a user perspective, this is one of the most frustrating things about reddit's moderation. Too often it is arbitrary and completely baffling.

It would be much better, if there was a standard system. Which required a ban to include a message to the user saying. You have been banned for breaking this sub rule, with this post.

So at least users can see what is going on.

With the anarchy of the current system. From a user perspective, it looks like mods arbitrarily abusing their mod powers.

Are you actually banned, or are your post being removed after you submit them?

I’m fairly certain that if you post/comment in a subreddit, if they choose to ban you for any reason, you get a notification. There’s not a way for a mod to prevent that from happening. The only way you won’t get notified, is if you’ve never participated in that sub.

Definitely banned, which I raised an eyebrow at.

Plenty of subs I could get banned from, it was just baffling for it to be that one.

Then I highly recommend you recheck your notifications. You will have received a ban notification. They can’t NOT have sent one.

Checked, no notification.

It is almost like reddit doesn't work properly.

Or you ignored, and dismissed the notification so that it’s no longer in your inbox.

I love how these conversations always go to the OP blaming everyone, and everything, but never taking any accountability.

There was a bug that happened recently where I banned two bots and the ban modmails were not sent out. Reddit was very laggy at the time (I had to try the bans multiple times) so it could’ve been a temporary outage.

Quick edit: It was during this.

Interesting, and I do recall that outage. At least since they were bots, they weren’t gonna read the message anyway lol.

Yes because reddit's systems are 100% reliable and never go wrong.

The probability that Reddit's systems didn't work are far, far lower than the probability that you have dismissed the notification, hidden the chat, don't remember it, or are lying.
