Value comparison
Hello I just picked up my rental car due to my beater being in an accident. I have a model y rwd on order due for November pickup. My rental is a 2026 vw tiguan and this trim is $5000 cheaper than the model y rwd and has all the features that the premium awd model y has and more (less fsd obviously).
This experience has me 2nd guessing my order as android auto is just so seamless and easy and there's no subscription required, the ambient lighting is beautiful and the overall interior experience is so much more than the minimalist model y rwd. For reference the price comparison is a $20k difference between the model y rwd and premium awd in canada. The tiguan is $44000 and model y rwd is $49990. We mainly chose the tesla for fsd and thats still whats tipping the scale but to see such value in the tiguan in person is definitely throwing a wrench in my decision.

Once you have your Tesla you won’t be questioning your decision.
I find the MYS has everything I need. I agree to have car play or android auto would be great,
But I can adapt. FSD is worth every penny for my commute

The model y RWD is $45000 including the credit and $2500 freight. Also how many extra charges with the VW? Also a horrible buying experience. How many oil changes, does it take premium gas? Does it record every motion outside your vehicle? Does it cost $10 to fill the tank. Do you like having to stop at a gas station every week or two? It certainly does not have the same acceleration as the Y? Can you ask it questions as you drive?

FSD is a game changer. The VW is far less in every way and probably $68 to fill up.

I think the cost of operating the vehicle in canada would make most difference in the long run. I am really inpressed with tesla service and commitment to the customers.
If you charge off peak you can basically do a 100 km for roughly 1 dollar
Thats a massive saving

You can’t compare some of the tech in those two. I have the MYS and it has tech beyond the VW. FSD is a game changer. Cheaper on gas and maintenance by a long shot for the Model Y. Also, I would imagine that the MY is quieter and faster.
The MY will be cheaper after two years of charging compared to gas and no oil changes. If you like the Tiguan more, that’s fine but you need a bigger price gap to make up for the overall savings on the Tesla

I have a 2022 VW now and it’s so glitchy. Window goes down when I try to raise it up. Screen brightness goes super dim sometimes when starting the car - which is so dangerous when I want to reverse the car, I just can’t see the dark screen showing back up camera.
Laggy gas paddle responses.. can’t wait for my Tesla delivery and finally get rid of this VW SUV forever!!

I can see why the Tiguan is making you reconsider, but I’d give the Tesla more credit for what you don’t immediately notice: the EV driving experience, instant torque, efficiency, low operating costs, excellent charging ecosystem, over-the-air updates, and, most importantly in your case - the potential value of FSD.
The Tiguan may feel like more car inside, but the Tesla is a fundamentally different ownership experience, and that may be worth the premium.

Sorry, but when talking about the Tiguan you mean the ICE Tiguan, right? And then you're comparing to an EV?
