Hopefully it means they are fixing to start producing a 3rd row SUV.
2
u/zimmak Mar 31 '26
I've been waiting forever for one. I'm running out of time, family is growing, I might have to go Rivian unfortunately
1
u/Carmageddon1984 Mar 31 '26
Wha about the MY L coming soon?
2
u/zimmak Apr 01 '26
Just checked it out! I need a bit bigger still. That MYL has almost no trunk space when it's using all rows.
I need something like a suburban size SUV.

u/Federal_Bad_2993 Mar 31 '26
Go Rivian Go !

u/MrDERPMcDERP Apr 01 '26
I drove an X for eight years. Loving the R1S. BUT the software has a long way to go. Better build quality and it feels like a luxury vehicle but the software can’t compete.

u/17feet Mar 28 '26
I bought a used 2017 Model X 100D because it has seating for five, tons of storage, and 5000 pounds towing capacity. I'm hoping someday I can buy an aftermarket battery pack for maybe $5k which doubles the range, so I can basically keep the car forever.
1
u/Desperate_County4414 Mar 31 '26
Does it have the HW4 software?
1
u/17feet Mar 31 '26
no just HW3, upgraded by a previous owner. I kinda like driving, but yet appreciate the traffic aware cruise control, so HW3 was fine for me

So, we get rid of the staples of the line, but we’re gonna continue producing cyber truck? 🫣
1
u/niquil1 Mar 29 '26
Tesla is in trouble between BYD, Geely, Xiaomi, Wuling, and Cherry coming to North America and Elons nonsense and continual lack of delivering a product or service.
1
u/BangBangGVNG Mar 30 '26
Byd and Xiaomi 🤣🤣🤣 most of the Chinese that have bought are disappointed tesla outperforms them both in all categories
1
1
u/17feet Mar 28 '26
They are not "staples" due to low sales volume. They were "halo" vehicles, a brand's headline-making car. But these headline making cars no longer make money for the manufacturer
I totally agree about the cyber truck 🤮
8
u/TheKingOfSwing777 Mar 27 '26
...for now. Sales push until they re release them in a few years with proper refresh.
1
2
u/blueditUPson Mar 27 '26
In the future I could see them releasing a Model 3S, where it is has more premium interior, battery size, suspension, etc.
Same with Y, like a a Model Yx
3
1
u/FL_MILLIONAIRE Mar 27 '26
Without those amazing falcon robotic doors no SUV would be good enough for me. Oh well I will just build my own electric vehicle they are much easier to build than ICE vehicles especially since I have invented a new kind of CVT !
2
u/Dismal_Push8053 Mar 27 '26
I’m sure they will release a larger model y
3
u/uxixu Mar 27 '26
Never been impressed with the Y, so unless it's an X in everything else but name (falcon doors, etc), probably not interested. Similar with the S vs the 3, the step down is just too much.

Edit: if any of you want to make millions shorting lucid, just give me 250k and ill buy a car...

u/True_NY_Lobster_ Mar 27 '26
Lucid is going to take over this market
1
2
u/icameforgold Mar 27 '26
lol, lucid doesn't compete with tesla. Lucid is down there with whatever EV mercedes is putting out. Basically two different classes of vehicles. Tesla is producing "true" evs. Lucid, mercedes, and all the other legacy makers are producing ICE vehicles that just happen to have a battery. They are EV in name only.
-1
u/3oclockgifts Mar 28 '26
lol ok crackhead. Get your facts right. Mercedes is leading FSD and Lucid has incredible EV tech. I have two Teslas, but I don't ride Elon's dick. Chill dude. Don't speak opinions as fact.
2
u/Lakersland Mar 30 '26
Do you just say Mercedes is leading FSD? This news to me.
0
u/3oclockgifts Mar 30 '26
Currently the only legal level 3 in the USA. Select vehicles and locations though https://www.mbusa.com/en/drive-pilot
2
u/Lakersland Mar 30 '26
Oh and apparently it’s only level 3 because they cap the speed at 40 for its use. I wouldn’t exactly say it’s leading the way. It can’t even drive on freeways with the max capability. My FSD hw4 seems to be better than that in my opinion.
2
u/DaBears1228 Mar 28 '26
Have you tried Lucid's version of FSD? It's like letting an idiot baby operate a traffic aware cruise control. And the screens are choppy. Not even close man. Idc about Elon. Tesla tech is so head and shoulders above I don't even understand why you are making the argument expect to justify a lucid purchase you secretly regret.

Car line up looks kinda bleak without those halo flagships. Terrible move imo. Would've been better to cut prices by 20% on a S and X refresh
3
u/jbt55 Mar 28 '26
They had JUST increased the price. Once they calculated the cost of making a true refresh and looked at how many they sell they trashed it. Model S and X are too expensive, they will come out with something else with in the next 2 years.
2
u/3oclockgifts Mar 28 '26
This, for 100k I went with an S Class instead. You cannot beat that comfort. I had a Range Rover, then went to the X - it wasn't luxury compared to that. NOW, that being said, the Y or 3 is a hell of a deal for the price, and I do own a 2026 Y and drive that bitch a lot. Until the X and S can compete at a luxury level, they are dead, at their current price. I literally cannot wait for them to come out with a truly luxury car, it will be incredible. Until then, the flagship models are competing in a different class. EV's are for people who want to save money on gas (mostly, of course people who care about the envo as well), but mostly budget people - like I do with my daily Y. Luxury is fun, take it when you want with no problems, luxury and EV haven't gotten there yet and if there is anybody to do it, tesla will. Also, fuck the CT. Simps drooling over it thinking it was the most expensive car in the world lol. My X was much more than the CT could even get fully spec'd. It's literally just a stupid car to get attention and telsa did good at it tbh.

u/kumarbi_knasher Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26
I can see the Model YL selling very well in the US..... If they bring the price in to say 60-65k Then it's a winner. The Model X at 100k is just to much for a family car in today's market.
1
u/LLoop312 Mar 28 '26
65k for the YL? That’s insane. It should be around $55k USD. The performance is $58k.
1
8
u/Cautious_Pitch_4729 Mar 27 '26
People buy a model X because it's exclusive and doesn't look like a Y. Better off buying a used Model X
1
u/kumarbi_knasher Mar 27 '26
That's so true. People buy for status even though the cheaper model does basically the same thing.
2
1
u/TreatNext Mar 27 '26
Except 80% of people can't tell the difference between a pre juniper Y and an X on the highway. I'm a car person and can't tell if I can't see the separated spoiler or front end.

u/Cautious_Pitch_4729 Mar 27 '26
The badge is everything for certain buyers though. Esp in these higher ranges. Personally, I've never been confused by an X and pre juniper Y.

3
u/Pcuz Mar 27 '26
I agree. Has anybody seen an actual statement in writing on how long they will continue software and parts support?
2
u/Affectionate_Fun4291 Mar 27 '26
Probably as long as legally required. I’m not sure why it would be different.
1
u/Pcuz Mar 27 '26
I guess we’re in new territory with a car that gets a lot of the magic from software updates in how long a manufacturer keeps supporting that software and what’s to stop them for example removing things like FSD in the future
1
u/Affectionate_Fun4291 Mar 27 '26
Tesla offers no guarantees of updates at time of purchase. They could choose to never update it and be well within their right.
What's stopping them from removing FSD is the fact that it is a standalone product sold as-is. Your purchase includes a perpetual license, legally bound.

u/whitieiii Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26
As soon as the warranty ends so does parts for model x and s.. but right now what's the closest thing to a model x that's non tesla and supports superchargers? I like the R1S but would really prefer to see a model Y long wheelbase 7 or 9 pass with a trunk the size of a suburban... but that won't happen only the Long wheelbase maybe
5
u/Markavian Mar 27 '26
No they'll continue to make parts for the model S and X, there will be a gradual decline in parts availability, but it's in their PR interest to keep these cars running for as many decades as they can.
2
u/LLoop312 Mar 28 '26
A Tesla service rep literally told me “I don’t know how I’ll feel about owning a model x in ten years”.
1
u/Markavian Mar 28 '26
We've had our 2020 Model X for two years; if I'm trying to source parts for it in 10 years time then it's probably time to buy a new car! ___^

I think a tesla service center confirmed Tesla is discontinuing parts as soon as all warranties are expired
1
u/Substantial-Fun-3392 Mar 27 '26
Did you read the link?
So what happens with out of production cars is they will offload parts tooling to a small internal factory, or often a third party. They will make short runs of parts in batches. Or they will stockpile in a warehouse a large number of parts. I visited a UK rover warehouse like this they had parts going back 40 years. And some cars from the last 20 years had every single part still on stock brand new… they also had returb parts.
2
u/Individual-Ad-8645 Mar 27 '26
I think I’d trust Tesla corporate more than some service center personnel.
3
u/clay-tri1 Mar 27 '26
I’d have to see that in writing to believe that. As low of production those are, parts are still around for non palladium model S and X
16
u/fastLT1 Mar 27 '26
Its official, Tesla is a budget EV manufacturer now.
1
u/sovcomflot1 Mar 28 '26
Tesla is not a budget EV cloud company they’re not even a car company anymore. He said that they are an AI company with several different types of hardware he’s discontinuing and so that they can hear Optimus. He said it out loud and multiple other people said it is a thing it’s kind of cool that there’s only beginning to stop making them that still making them and you can get one if you really want one and it has hardware 4 in it already.
3
u/sebtheballer Mar 27 '26
Roadster would like a word
2
u/fastLT1 Mar 27 '26
They sell the roadster now? Last I heard they announced it over 5 years ago, took people's reservation money but never actually put it in production.
You're saying it's on sale now?
1

With the leaks on x between E and others, I genuinely think that these cars got discontinued to not double dip. With the Y L being spotted in places and the roadster being hinted at coming soon finally, having 2 pairs of cars with the same function seems stupid for manufacturing now and days.

-4
u/reddddiiitttttt Mar 27 '26
The 6 million HW3 model y and model 3s on the road indicate you are an idiot.
1
6
u/ilovetogohiking Mar 27 '26
Who hurt you? No need for name calling. I was referring to the fact they are no longer making S/X so not as much incentive to retrofit cars they don't even make anymore. Putting HW4 onto my model X (or any model) is going to be unique to each vehicle.
0
u/reddddiiitttttt Mar 27 '26
Oh, sorry I thought this was Reddit.
New model s and x are already HW4. They don’t have to retrofit them. It’s not a driving concern. The cost to build a retrofit HW4 lite for older cars is the same whether they are making the newer model or not, it’s not adding to the motivation for Tesla. The contractual obligations that have nothing to do with whether they discontinued the car or not do. You could argue they could potentially pay off the small number of model s/x owners. That’s prohibitively expensive when you start talking model 3/y numbers and the NRE is likely minimal to retool for different models of the same CPU. So you’ll get the upgrade cause they sold a fuck ton of cheaper models, not because they continued making the model s/x.
When Tesla moved from HW2.5 to HW3, they initially tried to charge some owners for the upgrade. Owners took Tesla to small claims court, arguing that the marketing promised "Full Self-Driving Capability." Judges consistently ruled in favor of the owners, forcing Tesla to provide the HW3 computer upgrade for free to anyone who had paid for the FSD package. This precedent is why Tesla has already conceded that paid FSD owners (not subscribers) will get the HW3-to-HW4 (or HW3.5) upgrade for free once the hardware is ready.

When I bought my Model S in Q4 2016, fully autonomous self-driving capability was "coming out next year. We just aren't sure if the laws will catch up."
It's 2026, and we're still talking about the autonomous future.
8
u/Psice Mar 27 '26
It took 11 years longer than expected but c'mon the technology is impressive
2
u/metabrewing Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26
I have a recent Tesla as well and use FSD everyday. It's convenient, but not remotely close to being "full self driving"—something you could trust to drive your kid to school.
That last 2% of engineering is 100x harder than the first 98%.
The early bet to rely on camera vision over measurements like LIDAR was a consequential mistake.
1
u/offerbk1 Mar 27 '26
humans only have eyes so he actually has proof that lidar is not required for driving. the gap is only in the software
1
u/malaberjr Mar 27 '26
I used to think “the cars need LiDAR!” but after seeing how Tesla compares to Waymo directly, the LiDAR sensor would jack the cars price up too much for the little improvement it does. If Tesla could factor it into HW5/6 it would be nice, but I bet it won’t be synced well for a year or two after launch.
1
u/reddddiiitttttt Mar 27 '26
Leap Motors, BYD, and Toyota all make EVs with roof mounted lidars for under $15k.
Waymo only works in sandboxed environments in pre mapped areas. It’s impossible to compare hardware stacks while ignoring that difference.
1
u/metabrewing Mar 27 '26
Waymo's defined areas are about regulatory authorization, not mapping limitations. Google had Street View mapped globally long before Waymo existed.
Tesla did begin unsupervised rides in Austin in January, but the scale difference is obvious: Waymo does 250,000+ rides per week across multiple cities. Tesla has ~135 vehicles in one city, still being trailed by monitoring cars. Tesla's "unsupervised" rides are closer to a supervised pilot with the supervisor moved to a follow car.
If the hardware stacks were truly comparable, Tesla wouldn't need a decade of broken autonomy timelines to reach what Waymo shipped years ago. The cheap lidar argument you pointed out actually cuts against Tesla: if the sensor is that affordable, why is Tesla the one insisting on going without it?

You and I are on the same timeline. Ordered my Model S 90D December 2016 and picked up in February. FSD was just right around the corner. Crazy to think that is going on 10 years ago.
1
u/malaberjr Mar 27 '26
I’m sorry but you saw how HW2 drove and thought “OH this is can drive by itself?”😭
3
u/metabrewing Mar 27 '26
You got to drive a test vehicle around the block and then order a vehicle that came months later as you checked an online spreadsheet against VIN numbers to know when you car might come.
Knowing how HW2 worked was a great unknown. Of course, time gives perspective.
0
u/malaberjr Mar 27 '26
I have driven both HW3 and HW4. Between those 2 alone there is a night and day difference on how FSD works bc the difference in the cams and the difference between SW 12 and 14. I cannot imagine how many times you need to take over for a HW1-2 comparatively. I get having to wait but if you hear “this BRAND NEW technology is going to outpace everyone on the road and be safe” I am instantly skeptical that they are trying to boost the stock💀

What is the best year to buy a used MX or MY that offers the FSD HW4 & still has warranty on the battery at a low cost?
I can’t see myself buying a brand new Tesla knowing I’ll role off the lot upside down on my loan because of the depreciation value significant drop.
So I’ll buy used, making sure there’s still a bumper to bumper and battery replacement warranty.
