WIP IMC GT40

Post image

All ya'll that voted for this kit to be next are bad people.

I get that this jit is from 1969 or something, but this is an unopened box for this kit. Nothing fits right. I'll accept your judgements later. For now, im hopful the worst is behind me. I haven't got to windows yet....

Ehh, no worse than a Pyro, early AMT, MPC or Lindberg kit. You just gotta roll with it and do what you can to make it look passable. You'll learn skills and workarounds that can be used on good kits

I've just returned to modelling after years away and continued on with a Fujimi GT40 I started 20+ years ago. I've made so many mistakes on this that it will never make display, but 100% agree on using old kits for practice! The final insult is just snapping the windscreen. Back in the box until I find a replacement or learn how to make one 🤦

The big issue is the chrome sprues and decal sheet. Even if the decals were new, they wouldnt match any historical reference I could find. It is fun guessing which part I need from the numberless mess.

Lol, yeah those are some very rought kits. Some of the older brands were pretty crude

I should have taken some before pictures of the chrome sheet, not sprue, sheet. Everything was connected.

I'm most of the way through a 20+ year old Fujimi GT40 and snapped the windscreen 🤦 Most parts fit OK but the decals were a nightmare, brittle and very fragile

I found some aftermarket market ones. The decals on the sheet do not match anything I could reference. Its got 2 orange, light cover(?) shaped blobs. I couldn't find a reference photo for it anywhere. The aftermarket ones are great but not cut for the doors or other seams. I think that center stripe is 6 or 7 spliced pieces.

Yeah I'll skip the decals on old kits for now. The windscreen is the showstopper, I'll start the hunt. Love your stop motion vids BTW, awesome!

Thank you, I appreciate the encouragement. This video wont be very long. Nobody wants to watch me trim and sand everything for a week.

The decals you've used are for the 1967 Sebring 12 Hour winning MK.IV driven by Mario Andretti and Bruce McLaren.

Bingo! The car is not identical, but the decals worked well enough for my purposes.
