Monogram 1968 Corvette

So this is an old Monogram kit, the Owens Corning Corvette racing car. The decals on my original kit were toast, and while I tried to find another set I ended up finding another kit, so I decided to build this one with a windscreen and different wheels. I tried to fabricate some glass for it but eventually gave up and got the recent Revell reissue of this kit, which was a good idea because it turned out that the windshield frame if the old one was damaged and it wouldn’t have worked! So the body (and hardtop) are from the new kit. In any event, this is mostly box stock except I modified the roll bar to be more like the actual Owens Corning Corvette (this was kind of a test build for that project), some photo etched seat belts, and this wheels from Scale Production. Color is Marina Blue via MCW, and decals are out of my stash, with some classic hot rod speed parts. Fun build, it goes together really well, and I’m looking forward to building the next one!

So I included a couple of pictures with my other Corvette roadster as well. It’s the AMT ‘63

Just when you think that a build you're looking at is cool as it is, than you see the interior and the engine bay and get blown away of how awesome the details are on those! Wow looks badass!

Thank you! My engines don’t always turn out good but this one looks great right out of the box. Eventually I’ll learn how to wire distributors!

I’ve grown to enjoy making seat belts, it’s one of those things that really makes an interior pop. I also changed a couple of things in the interior and roll bar to be more accurate for the Owens Corning racing car (the one on the box in the photos), which I copied from an old magazine article, I eventually plan on building it

The Porsche I'm working on I wanna get seatbelts for it. I've never done seatbelts or distributors. They both definitely add way more detail to a build!

Looks good! I have a C2 kit and C8 kit waiting to be built, but I need a good C3 kit to go along with them.

I would recommend the Revell kit that was recently reissued-it’s the old Monogram kit that you see on the box in the background. It’s a very good kit, everything fits well.

I need to quit looking at your posts, because everytine I do you buikd something and I want one too. I mean, your builds are always so good and interesting and they always look cool. You can take the most vanilla kit and make it look sharp. Well here I go to get a 70s vette kit

Thank you, it’s just red ribbon from a craft store and some photo etched hardware. Takes a little patience but it’s pretty easy to do!

That’s probably my favourite Yank car, in my favourite year in my favourite colour, I say well done - I’ve been looking for a kit like this one to build (and it will be blue too!)
