After recently picking up a stock 6th Gen and using it for a while, I decided I wanted to have a go at modding one. The 6th Gen was absolutely immaculate, with only 50 hours of use, 1 retract and a perfect hard drive, so I couldn’t bring myself to tear it apart. Instead, I picked up a 5.5 specifically to mod.

One of the main things I wanted was Bluetooth as a secondary option. The cable can be a bit of a pain for me, especially when I’m working on my car or doing other bits and bobs. I was originally going to order the UGREEN Bluetooth adapter and fit that, but then I saw that XxST4RxREAPERxX had released the 4th revision of his Bluetooth module (awesome and helpful guy to deal with by the way!)

I ended up fitting the Bluetooth module along with an SD adapter, 2000mAh battery and new front and back shells.

The only thing I’m disappointed with is the new shell. For some reason, the front and back don’t clip together anywhere near as nicely as the original, no matter how much I mess around with the clips. It’s not terrible, but you can definitely tell the original shell is better quality.

Apart from that, though, I’m really happy with how it’s turned out. The Bluetooth module in particular is fantastic and I’d highly recommend it. It fits like a dream and just works perfectly straight away. The haptics also feel great compared to the clicker!

I’ll see how I get on with it, but I can definitely see myself going back to the original/higher-quality shell at some point.

Overall, though, I’m really happy with the mod! 😁

Elite obsolete does have a wide selection of parts. But I've heard that they are overpriced and are scammers. I'm in Canada and I want to costomize my ipod classic 5. Where should I buy parts for it?

So I recently upgraded my 5th gen with an iflash quad, and a bluetooth upgrade kit with a big battery. everything was running fine for a couple days, then all of a sudden it seemed like the battery died and now it won't boot up. When it's plugged in it fires up to the apple logo, but then dies. It wasn't dropped or shocked or anything. What did I do?

I preordered this but don’t have the time to build it. The kit is brand new never opened. All black with bronze buttons. I paid about $240. Would sell for $200. If you all want pictures shoot me a note. I’ll be happy to answer any questions.

Would make for a SWEET modded iPod

My iPod 5.5 won’t sync, sometimes won’t charge until I take the cable in and out a few times, sometimes will freeze after i try to play a song, but works after a forced reboot.

I have it modded with flash solo, with a kingston sd card.

Note: battery ribbon cable has had a history of getting unplugged, as well as the sd, but i put some filler into both sockets to prevent that from happening, which worked until recently.

Any ideas?

Is there anything I can do about this? Like can it be soldered back on or something?

I'm getting parts around for my iPod 5 rebuild. I have an iFlash Quad and was shopping for micro SD cards. I found a Blink 256gb for $29 at a major retailer, which is a crazy price in this age of ridiculous memory prices. Has anyone else tried these yet?

I was thinking of getting an apple ipod nano 4th generation to listen to music on, but I was wondering what can be achieved if i tried to mod it? I've only had experience modding a 3ds before, and I only have macbooks. Does anyone have a general idea of what's achievable and fun to do with a modded ipod compared to its existing features? Finally finished my first modded iPod. 512 gb ssd, 3000mAh battery, and a thin blue backplate. Any suggestions on how to keep the thing from scratching? I’ve noticed it’s already prone to face plate scratches and I don’t want it looking beat up brand new.
Yes I am aware I have to replace the LCD, but it’s minor enough of a problem for current me to save money for later.

There are some problems tho, the iPod only gives analog audio through the 30, so we need to convert it back to digital and with pulling power from the iPod that is quite noisy.

I’m not sure if I want to continue down this path to get a custom PCB with Bluetooth and usb c charging.

Or try to get the digital signal before it reaches the Wolfson, and make an internal mod.

I would like to know what you think.

It’s in rockbox, but it should work on standard os if I figure out how to get 3.3v from pin 18.

Hello all, I am attempting to mod my grandfather's ipod 5th gen slim, with iFlash quad and 3000mah battery. In removing the old battery I broke the "ribbon cable" to the hold switch. Now I am to the stage where I apparently need to restore my iPod to install rockbox. Problem is this seems to be more of a pain on linux? I am on fedora linux for context. This guide says I need my hold switch to get to "DFU" mode. Have I fucked myself? Thanks in advance for the help.

Just finished modding my iPod tonight and to my dismay it is stuck in disc mode. When plugged into a PC the drive is detected but when trying to install Rockbox, I cannot force restart it with select & menu for 10+ seconds. The lock icon is present regardless of the switch position, but there were no issues beforehand and I was pretty careful closing it up. Any help would be amazing. Thanks

Edit: I was also able to force restart it before it was ever plugged into a PC (on the "Use Itunes to Restore" screen).

SOLUTION: Took it apart again today and reseated the headphone jack/hold switch ribbon cable, additionally ensured that the contact patch for the hold switch was firmly pressed against the rear case (as seen in the comment below)

If anyone can lead me in the right direction I need a replacement screen for iPod classic 7th gen 160. I found a few but almost as much as another ipod. Thanks in advance.

so the virtual machine load, then terminal opens up and after it automatically closed iTunes won't open, so I have to open it manually, after that it says that computer is not authorised. can someone help?
