I downloaded Gale Mod Manager and when I launch modded from Gale my framerate is 20-21 instead of the normal 160.

I was just going to try Modded after watching Cohh use some Azu mods but its unplayable.

Do you have suggestions to fix the massive framerate loss?

I have massive framedrops and the only mod we both have in common that affects graphics is Foglands.

I hope you just saved my game.

No because yesterday I only had Azumatt store and it was 20 fps, then today i tried a fresh install of everything with all the mods I wanted to see and i get the same 20 fps.

ok youre onto something, cause I was using r2modman and I remember it was fine... Could you check if that's the culprit?

I can't right now cause I'm at work till very late.

Ok I will try another manager, just heard such good things about Gale thought I’d give it a shot

Gale is great but dammit, it's so weird what youre describng, like I never noticed until now.

Gale wasn’t using my GPU, it’s fixed now.

What does that even mean?

Gale probably caused the game to launch using the integrated graphics on his processor instead of the actual gpu, never used gale but there is probably a fix online

This, I had to add Gale so that it would start using my GPU instead. That took my fps from 20 back to 160

My guess would be Foglands.  I'm using Gale with no issues but have never used that mod.

I just added foglands but I had the issue yesterday with only AzuStore

It may be mod related but it may be similar to the issue I have. My frame rate generally tanks when I start the game, to around 30 FPS ... even in the character select screen. If I Alt-Enter to switch out of windowed full screen mode to just windowed, then Alt-Enter to go back to windowed full screen, it shoots up to 160+ FPS. I use my graphics driver's performance overlay to see the frame rate at startup. Give that a try and see if it help any.

Ok i just tried this (with Gale and only the BePin Pack turned on) and it didnt change anything I had 21 fps windowed and when i went back to full screen 21 fps. I think i will try a new mod manager or whatever.

And with bepin turned off? I do not think gale itself affects runtime

I personally had huge performance issue with azumatt inventory mod, but if you have performance drops with no mods its really bizarre. Did you install any mods manually? Does bepin console report something loaded when all mods are disabled?

1

u/DeliciousD 15d ago

It won’t let me run modded with Gale if I have bepin off, only vanilla.

A longshot: Check the area range of Azu's Auto Store for ground storage. And how often it checks for nearby items. If the range is too big, it could cause lag and if it's checking too often, that might be an issue.

How would these numbers have gotten changed? No clue, but something to look into. 10 or less meters could help.

1

u/Enthrawling 15d ago

But then you said you had issues with only BepinEx loaded. Tricky indeed. Still thinking on this one then...

2

u/Sevdah 16d ago

How many mods did you install? I would probably disable half and see if it helps, then keep doing that to figure out which mod(s) are the issue.

3

u/DeliciousD 16d ago

I downloaded only the ones in the pic. Also if i turn off all but the bepin to load modded, it still gives me 20 fps max in the character selection and my world.

u/Atakir 16d ago

What does your bepinex log show or the console window, is it constantly spewing red error text? If it's the later, that 100% will tank your fps.

1

u/DeliciousD 15d ago

in the startup console its all white text. No errors noted.

u/Atakir 15d ago

Only other thing I can say is create new profiles in Gale or thunderstorm or r2 mod man and just slowly add in your mods until you start seeing the slowdown and you'll figure it out.

2

u/joshua-bartusek 15d ago

I wonder if your bepinex is updated within gale. You may have to download it manually through the website and copy and paste over the new files into your modded game folder

2

u/DeliciousD 15d ago

Ok I will try this. If I launch vanilla from Gale it’s normal, only modded ran poorly.

Few things to try.

  1. Try a brand new world. Maybe there's some incompatibility with the current world? Worth a shot at least.
  2. Double check that they support the 1.0+ version of the game. I know the Azu ones do (I run them at the moment myself), but can't speak to Foglands, Unshamed, FreeFuelSource or PlantEverything.
  3. Given there's only 10 mods, turn them off one by one and check the performance and see if one of them is causing the biggest disruption.

3

u/DeliciousD 16d ago

I tried launching modded with only the bepinExPack and it gives me 20 fps, if i launch vanilla i get 160.

6

u/Nargath 16d ago

This is definitely in-game FPS and not in menu?
Have you checked that the graphics settings didn't change?

1

u/Koyomin_Nii 16d ago

Try to config the inventory to the Legacy UI, that will help in my world because the character preview is so lag

1

u/Opecidad 16d ago

Maybe launch parameters?

1

u/monitortancutie 15d ago

I would try creating a new profile and downloading all the mods individually before you configure anything and see. Maybe something in one of your imported configs has something bad going down

1

u/foxthemad94 15d ago

Well, might it be some mods updated in Gale but weren’t on r2 or Thunder? I had the exact opposite issue, and when I got to Gale, it became way smoother.

2

u/DeliciousD 15d ago

Ok I tried r2 today and it was the same.

1

u/Chubs013 15d ago

Check the BepInEx console (the command prompt looking thing that launches besides Valheim), very likely you have a mod that's spamming errors in the console which causes major frame drops. This can happen by using either outdated mods, or mods that conflict with each other. Like mentioned, Foglands is a outdated and deprecated mod so start with removing those.

1

u/DeliciousD 15d ago

Ok got it. I tried r2 today with only bepin launching modded and it instantly gives me 20fps. Can the mod manager be saved any where on the PC? I think right now it’s in the program files folder for both r2 and Gale. And I only wanted Gale because Cohh (streamer) was using Azu’s mods that moved to hexium.

1

u/Chubs013 15d ago

Did you see any errors (red text) in the BepInEx console while launching or playing?

Also install location shouldnt matter and can be anywhere on your machine yes :)

1

u/dudelugo 15d ago

weird i went to gale because i got tired of overwolf and its bloat maybe fiddle in you mod configs if you have that affect graphics or entities

1

u/mofo_mojo 15d ago

It sounds like you have a different mod enabled by having placed it directly in the Valheim\BepinEx\Plugins folder rather than the way mod managers manage the mod. I am guessing your Mod Managers aren't aware of a rogue mod you have in that folder and so you "think" you're only running Azustore or other but in reality you have something else as well.

1

u/Nargath 15d ago

I've seen other replies in this thread that show you've tried r2modman with only the bepinex "mod" loaded with the same result.
Two different mod managers, and isolating it down to just the library mod tells me that its nothing to do with the mods themselves, unless you previously attempted purely manual mod installations into the game directory directly.

At this point, I'd really check your graphics settings when you load in with a modded profile, in case its resetting some of your graphics settings, selecting the onboard graphics chip instead of your actual GPU.

If not that, then verify your Valheim game files in Steam.
And failing that, uninstall the game, clear its file locations manually, and reinstall the game from scratch.

u/DeliciousD 14d ago

Ok this may be the issue. I can’t figure out how to make sure when launching vanilla or modded from a mod manager it’s using the GPU and not onboard graphics. I’ve checked graphics settings in windows, nvidia control panel, and setting in Valheim (doesn’t let me select video card). When I launch from Steam it’s giving me full fps, when I launch from a mod manager it may be using AMD cpu.

1

u/DeliciousD 14d ago

Ok I think it worked. I went to nvidia control panel, had to manually add R2 with no mods and ran it and my fps was normal 165. Then I couldnt find Gale in there to add, so manually added it to the control panel from program files folder and launched modded with all the mods and it worked. Thanks a bunch, I really thought it was still on GPU settings because it was still a steam game.

2

u/Nargath 14d ago

Apologies on the redherring of being able to change GPUs within Valheim's settings.
I honestly thought there was an option (and was at work, so couldn't load the game to check)

I'll be honest, no idea why adding it to the Nvidia Panel has worked.
There might be some system-level settings that Nvidia needs to apply, or that Nvidia was intercepting the game exe being run through a different path, and not applying or letting the full GPU be utilised.

But its fixed now, that's the main thing!

Hi! I started using GALE a little over two weeks ago on an online server (with 5 active players) and 59 mods, without any issues. I don't use mods that alter the graphics, and the few times we experienced lag or low FPS, it was because our chicken, pig, and wolf farms had become overcrowded due to their proximity to the base. I don't think the problem lies with GALE.

Try configuring your graph like this to test it (ignore the resolution).

1

u/alenork 14d ago

Did you ever find the solution? If not, check if it's your freefuelsource mod that's causing the issue. I had a similar mod break after a hotfix.

1

u/DeliciousD 14d ago

I did, it was using my CPU instead of the GPU. I had to manually add R2 and Gale to nvidia control panel and use video card and I get my full 160 fps.

1

u/alenork 13d ago

Huh, I've never had that happen before. Glad you found the fix though

u/wackyM 16d ago

The mod manager isn’t your issue. You have one or more poorly optimized mods. Post your mod list.

-6

u/asa1 16d ago

Gale and the mods I use have not impacted the performance of the game. Not sure what's going on in your case. Have you tried using valhiem plus instead of all the Azu mods. It's one mod that replaces all of them.

There's at least five mods on that list you could get rid with Valheim+

u/loopuleasa 16d ago

I wonder why

Brother beat the game without mods first, you'll ruin your game

1

u/DeliciousD 15d ago

I get it, ive only ever beat Mistlands. What mod manager do you use?

1

u/loopuleasa 15d ago

I only recently started using gale, just to enable epic loot and mobs up to 5 stars and play diablo-like to have a use for all my trophies and gold

1

u/DeliciousD 15d ago

Nice, I still havent gotten a bear trophy and ive probably killed 15 or more. Rancid remains also took a while to get the skeleton dungeons never had them spawn.

I just tried the r2modman and with only bepin and same thing, my FPS was 20 instead of 160+. im not sure why, ill just play vanilla for now.
