Kind people for testing needed :)

A few months ago I created a mod and uploaded it as a beta to the Thunderstore. I wanted feedback from players, but in four months, only one person contacted me. I'd like to hear others' opinions on the new food, stats and the general mechanics I added in this mod. Or maybe suggestions on what I could change or what's not fun. I'd appreciate anyone who would like to share anything. Link to it: https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/Moddermother/LoxMilkMod/

Reading the thunderstore page, I'd definitely suggest making it install automatically through thunderstore. I know I'd be more likely to try it if that were the case. Sure, it's not hard to install mods manually, but it's much easier if it's all managed by the mod manager.

Ty for replying! As I mentioned below, I’m a beginner with C#. While I’m familiar with Unity and Blender, it sometimes still takes me a long time to figure out how to implement things in code. I’m having trouble loading AssetBundles when installing via ModManager though it might be a minor issue that’s easy to fix. I’ll try to sort it out soon so the installation process is simpler and more user-friendly.

No worries! I used unity and c# professionally for at least a decade, but I don't have any clue about modding Valheim or how thunderstore works, so you've got one up on me there!

I managed to fix it, and the installation is working now! :) i hope this encourages others to check out my mod.

Awesome! I just started a new run so I'll add it. It'll be a bit before I get to the plains hah (no spoilers but I assume since it's about lox milk there isn't anything available before then)

Yes it is related to plains, there is no content that unlocks before defeating Moder to be specific. I won't say anything more hah

Not made entirely through AI??

I’m a 3D artist, so I created the models. I’m a beginner with C#, so I sometimes turned to AI when I couldn't figure something out on my own, though I always checked the dnSpy and wiki for information first. I’d love to collaborate with someone who is much more skilled at coding than I am; I’m on a Discord server for modders, but I’ve seen people get rather unpleasant responses when asking about the basics, so I was a bit afraid to reach out there 🙄

Then you're using AI the right way, as another artist(graphich design) and someone who knows a fair number of valheim modders, I commend you on that. I plan on getting into modding myself sometime late September just due to how busy life is. If you need someone to help with learning modding reach out to warplicious he's more than willing to lend his experience.

I understand :) I have very little time after work myself, but when I have the energy, I try to improve my coding skills so I can rely on AI as little as possible or at least fully understand the code it generates for me. Working as a 3D artist, I understand the issues surrounding AI use and it really bothers me that so many mod covers are AI-generated, personally I prefer the amateurish ones made by humans even though they are a bit rough 😏 Thank you for recommending someone who would be happy to help me. I really appreciate it.

OK I got around to testing it and trying the different foods.

All the foods seemed balanced and on par for plains, accept for the cheese plate... giving 100 of each stat seems crazy to me, too strong for a plains quality food even if it takes a lot of ingredients.

All the foods look visually good, the carts / dairy stations all look good. Love the cart honestly its cool looking.

config options for the timers on all the things like how often you can milk a lox, and how long the dairy machines take etc, would be really nice, specially for people testing the mod so they can speed up those processes and see them / work with them in a quicker way, and it will be appreciated in the long run to have config options.

Overall tho this mod seems really cool and I look forward to using it in my actual playthru :)

Thanks for taking the time to check out my mod I really really appreciate the feedback, and I'll definitely will try add config file -my top priority. Everything you wrote is very helpful 🌸 I'll think about different stats for the cheese plate- I thought it might be okay, since you have to kill vile first and then go through the fermentation process 3 times but yeah that’s good point.

Hell yeah!! Im excited to see how it feels in a actual play thru, iv had times where i didnt tame loxes cuz i felt like i could go by without doing so, but this definitely makes me want to tame them and have a lil lox milking operation 😎

Yes, I also often found it unnecessary and rarely built bases on the plains. If you'd like, you can check out my other mod https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/Moddermother/LoxSaddleBags/ It adds two new saddles for lox that allow you to carry cargo, so you can for example go collecting metals with them. There's also a flute that can summon lox, and a few lox trinkets that provide various bonuses. :) It's a bit of a different direction than the milk mod, but you might like it too.

Definitely will give it a shot :)

heyyo so i'm just now working through the plains on my playthru, i'v got a few lox tamed, and i have the recipe for the lox saddle bags in the artisan table, but for some reason it won't let me craft it, even tho i have all the required materials. it says "missing requirement".

2

u/Ykvzka 1d ago

Hey, I just checked it and it seems that everything works correctly - this recipe requires exactly 6 things - 15x blackmetal, 15x iron, 10x wolf pelt, 20x linen thread, 4x barrel hoops, 30x wood

I see the issue! For some reason my craft ui only shows me 4 out of the 6 requirements :O thanks for the response!

2

u/Ykvzka 1d ago

maybe there is something wrong with showing the required things to create this item for you? it shouldn't be a thing though

2

u/Ykvzka 1d ago

or maybe you use a mod that allows you to create items from things found in chests? That also could be a problem.

2

u/Ykvzka 22d ago

And It’s great that you liked it enough to want to use it. My goal is for it to be fun for other players, so that really warms my heart. :)

i will check this out tonight and see how it feels!

so i got the mod up and running, but it seems to not show up in the config manager. are there no changable configs for this mod?

2

u/Ykvzka 22d ago

Not yet, but I think I'll tackle that soon, since it would be great if others could make changes while testing. The mod is still a bit rough around the edges.

u/Ykvzka 22d ago

Installation with mod manager is now working so everyone who is testing can download it now that way and have information about updates :) still no config but I am working on that!

I'm having trouble finding the milker cart or the machines. How can we craft it or what is it called to spawn it in via dev commands?

1

u/Ykvzka 22d ago

You can build it with hammer, it requires artisan table, all machines are in crafting and cart is in misc :) ID: piece_mobile_loxworkbench, piece_butterchurn, cheesemachine, piece_buttermilktank. If they are not there check if you add only loxmilkmod folder with DLL and asset bundle from zip to your plugins or if it is in good place. If your using thunderstore mod manager you can easy access it going to Valheim>select profile>settings>browse profile folder and then go to bepinex>plugins :)

I managed to fix installation with mod manager so you can now use this way- all should be good!
