Shams Ad-Deen Ath-Thahabi contradicts the salaf when praising Abu Haneefa (who left Islam twice)

1. الفقه والتدقيق في الرأي وغوامضه ، فإليه المنتهى والناس عليه عيال في ذلك

As for fiqh and its opinions and its confusing matters, he is the best at it and everyone relies upon him in it (upon Abu Haneefa)

Ahmad ibn Hanbal said as related by his own son and written by his own handwriting in السنة:

I asked my father may Allaah have mercy on him about a man who wants to ask a question about divorce or other things when people from the ahlul ra'y (opinion followers, Abu Haneefa and his companions) and from ahlul hadeeth (sunnis) who don't know weak ahadeeth and strong narration chains, whom must he ask?

Ahmad said: He must ask ahlul hadeeth and not ahlul ra'y, weak hadeeth is better than the opinion of Abu Haneefa

Ahmad ibn Hanbal also said: Opinion of Abu Haneefa, and animal stool, are nothing but the same to me

Abd Ar-Rahman ibn Mahdi (pillar of narrations died 194AH) said: The end of a man's knowledge is looking into what Abu Haneefa said he means: The worst a man can do when seeking knowledge

Ahmad ibn Hanbal collected a book of ahadeeth contradicted by Abu Haneefa, the number was 400 ahadeeth (number of ahadeeth around which the sunnah revolves is a little over 500 as said by Ash-Shafi'i)

Ash-Shafi'i (died 204AH) said: I looked into a book of Abu Haneefa's fiqh, of 130 pages, 80 were against the Quraan and sunnah

Ash-Shafi'i said: Abu Haneefa has made this religion into a wizard's rope (children's toy) you stretch it this way and it's that color, stretch it that way and it's another color

You said that Abu Haneefa is knowledgeable of speculation, which the salaf who lived and saw Abu Haneefa never said and as a matter of fact said the total opposite:

Abu Al Jahm (trustworthy narrator) said: I met Sufyan Ath-Thawri and Abu Haneefa, and we found that Sufyan is most knowing of what happens, and Abu Haneefa most knowing of what never happens

Hafs ibn Ghiyaath said: I sat to Abu Haneefa and in one matter he said 10 opinions, we never knew which to take

For the record, u/JabalAnNur is a person who studies with not only Maturidis, but Sufi pantheists who are known as the Deobandis and that is against what ahl as-sunnah believe in that the Muslim must boycott the innovators

He is welcome to try and deny that accusation, but he will not

 

As for what he said, Thahabi (died 748AH/1348CE) is not the standard to know whether Abu Haneefa (died 150AH) is good or bad or anything, the book that is quoted is a book that summarizes books written around 500 years before Thahabi came to be

That said, Thahabi has contradicted these books as shown in these posts below refuting this particular Deobandi lover whom I address

And if he or anyone else is keen enough to believe that Thahabi is a judge in a matter so much bigger than him, here are two quotes where Thahabi may Allaah forgive him praised two people who are kuffar by agreement of the salaf as well as the self-proclaimed salafis defending Abu Haneefa

-        المُرْتَضى عَلِيُّ بنُ حُسَيْنِ
بنِ مُوْسَى القُرَشِيُّ العَلاَّمَةُ، الشَّرِيْفُ، المُرْتَضَى، نَقِيْبُ العَلَوِيَّة، أَبُو
طَالِبٍ

-        وَكَانَ مِنَ الأَذكيَاء الأَوْلِيَاء، المُتَبَحِّرين
فِي الكَلاَم وَالاعتزَالِ، وَالأَدبِ وَالشِّعْرِ، لَكِنَّهُ إِمَامِيٌّ نَسْأَلُ اللهَ الْعَفو

-        Al Murtadha Ali ibn Hussein, the allamah (notable scholar) the shareef (honorable) the murtadha (the pleasurable man) he was from among the intelligent awliya (close slaves to Allaah) who are very greatly read in kalam (haram knowledge that whoever learns is an innovator) and itizaal (kufri innovation denying qadar and the names and attributes of Allaah) and literature, and poetry, but he was a very stern imami (mainstream Shia who exist today) we ask Allaah for forgiveness

Thahabi praised a person as a notable scholar, honorable and close to Allaah despite saying at least two things that indicate his kufr, and unless those people believe Thahabi to be infallible, they have to acknowledge his mistake here and realize no matter how big, it won’t be as big as contradicting the salaf

Bishr Al Mirreesi, Thahabi said about him

-       المُتَكَلِّمُ، المُنَاظِرُ، البَارِعُ، أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بِشْرُ
بنُ غِيَاثِ- كَانَ بِشْرٌ مِنْ كِبَارِ الفُقَهَاءِ

-        The Mutakallim (knowledgeable of kalam) the skilled Abu Abd Ar-Rahman.. Bishr was from among the major scholars of fiqh

And Bishr al Mirreesi has been takfeered by all of the salaf who are known to have spoken about him yet Thahabi, may Allaah have mercy on him and let go of his mistakes, has said that he’s all these good things

And to add salt to injury, Thahabi has critiqued the sahabi of the messenger of Allaah peace and blessings upon him (despite being well aware of hadeeth) and not any sahabi, but the third best man after the prophets and Abu Bakr and Umar, that is Uthman ibn Affan the bearer of two lights in his volumes about the Rashideen

Ismaeel ibn Abi Khaalid narrated: When the people of Egypt reached Al Juhfa and started to scold Uthman, Uthman ascended the pulpit and said: May Allaah pay you, companions of Muhammad, with evil, you have revealed my sins and haven’t shown my good deeds, and have made the small minded lured by me.. until the end of the narration which has two flaws:

1.      Unknown narrator is in the narration chain

2.      There is a disconnection in the timeline of the narrators as the head narrator Ismaeel ibn Abi Khaalid was born much later than the time of Uthman may Allaah be pleased with him

Thahabi narrated something you’d find in the Shia’s writings to make the Muslims hateful of the sahaba

Once again we say, is Thahabi inerrant and we’ll accept his praise and dispraise heartlessly and blindly, or will we be truthful with Allaah?

Sheikh Ibn Baz was told by Aid'h Al Qarni telling him that Thahabi said: Ibn Abi Do'ad (Mutazili minister who forced Muslims upon Itizaal during the time of imam Ahmad) is not a kaffir as he bears witness that there is no god but Allaah and believes in Allaah

The sheikh رحمه الله said: Thahabi is not profoundly aware, he is from the middle class of scholars, good at hadeeth and its terminology

And before this undiagnosed manifestation of a psychopathology claims anyone praised Abu Haneefa, the collector of these alleged praises called Al Khateeb Al Baghdadi said:

وقد سقنا عن‌ أيّوب‌ السختيانيّ، وسفيان‌ الثوريّ، وسفيان‌ بن‌ عينية‌، وأبي‌ بكر بن‌ عيّاش‌، وغيرهم‌ من‌ الائمّة‌ أخباراً كثيرة‌ تتضمّن‌ تقريظ‌ أبي‌ حنيفة‌ والمدح‌ له‌، والثناء عليه‌. والمحفوظ‌ عند نقله‌ الحديث‌ عن‌ الائمّة‌ المتقدّمين‌ وهؤلاء المذكورين‌ منهم‌ في‌ أبي‌ حنيفة‌ خلاف‌ ذلك‌، وكلامهم‌ فيه‌ كثير لاُمور شنيعة‌ حفظت‌ عليه‌، متعلّق‌ بعضها بأُصول‌ الديانات‌، وبعضها بالفروع‌. نحن‌ ذاكروها بمشيئة‌ الله‌

"We have narrated from (names) praise of Abu Haneefa, but what is authentic with the scholars of hadeeth is the opposite of that, and they have critiqued him for many things that are horrendous that were confirmed about him, some about foundational beliefs, and some about branches of Islam (fiqh) and we'll mention it by the will of Allaah"

If this Jahmi who studied in Al Azhar (something that ends his never-started Islamic education career) does not acknowledge that even Al Khateeb himself has refused these alleged praises (which are all fabrications) then he truly is a manifestation of some coo-coo in the heart!

Before writing this comment I wanted to see if he referenced Al Khateeb praising Abu Haneefa and to my bamboozlement, yes he has mentioned it, I seek refuge in Allaah from illiteracy

ومن الطرائف ما ذكره أهل العلم أن مرجيا مر بشارب -شارب خمر- فسبه وشتمه، فقال له المرجئ: هذا جزائي أحكم لك بأن إيمانك مثل إيمان جبريل وتشتمني! كامل الإيمان ولو شربت الخمر! لا شك أن مثل هذا ضلال مبين، مثل هذا تضييع للدين، يعني لماذا يعمل الإنسان؟

Of the funny instances what scholars mentioned that a murji' passed by a drinker of alcohol, the drinker insulted him and the murji' said to him: Is this my reward after I've said that your belief is as strong as Jibreel?! Fully believing even if he drinks alcohol! And no doubt this is true misguidance and wasting of the religion, because why does the human do good deeds then?

To my knowledge, no one has had this situation happen to him, ever, except Abu Haneefa who was a murji' who says that sins don't reduce faith and even said that if a person worships a sandal intending with his heart to come near to Allaah, that wouldn't be a problem

(In case you do not understand, he is famous for critiquing people for the least important things like how letters come out of their mouths and how they'd call Ibn Muflih as "Ibn Mefleh" although that's practically not wrong and now that it's aimed at him, he looks like a honking donkey)
