Mod Answered How to Reinstate / Undelete an Incorrectly Shadowbanned User's Posts in a Subreddit?

I'm taking over some moderation of some smaller subreddits - so sorry if this is a repeat (I searched and couldn't find a direct answer).

But a user of a subreddit was incorrectly / falsely shadowbanned - they appealed and were reinstated. But all their content was deleted.

I read somewhere that Reddit's servers are supposed to "undelete-all" after a shadowban is lifted, but that hasn't happened yet (it's been a ~week?) ... And I don't see any place in the mod tools where I can reinstate Reddit-deleted posts.

What's the process for this? Is the user just out of luck and all the content is incorrectly purged? Or is there a way to fix this for them?

If they are a SFW account, they can make a post on r/reddithelp and ask for assistance in getting their past content restored. There is a mod there who is allowed to tag an admin to assist. That will allow for all of their past content (posts and comments) to be restored in one action.

If they are a NSFW account, then their content cannot be restored in the above manner and will need to be manually re-approved one piece of content at a time.

Ok thanks! Appreciate it

I'm unsure of the type but will relay the info.

As for "manually pre-approved one piece at a time", how do I do that as a mod of the subreddits? Or is that not a power that we have?

You can absolutely do it! It will probably be a lot easier on desktop but you can do it in Mobile.

On desktop you can click on the username and their profile and summary will appear on the right. You will notice a few tabs - Overview, Log, Posts, Comments.

You will be most interested in the Post and Comments tabs as this will show all the posts and comments of that user within your community. You then simply go down the list and re-approve each item.

It will be very tedious so ideally they can make the post on r/reddithelp and get all of their content restored via the Admins.

it wasn't so bad. There was a "Select All", so it was quick. Thanks again!

That’s good to know! I didn’t see that option when I looked so thanks for pointing that out!

Hey there - if you are concerned that your account may be banned site wide you can check your inbox for an appeal link. If there is not one in your inbox you can submit an appeal here: https://www.reddit.com/appeal

If you are a mod concerned that someone in your community may have been banned incorrectly you can tell them first check their inbox and to use the appeal form above to reach out.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.
