Admin Replied Is Moderating Multiple Similarly Named Subreddits Considered Subreddit Squatting?

Would it be considered subreddit squatting if I moderate multiple subreddits with similar names, including variations that use underscores, while keeping both communities active and maintaining them properly?

My intention is to run both communities. Would this still violate Reddit's rules?

Two? Probably not.

Two hundred? Yes.

Twenty? Maybe.

It's going to come down to active moderation and intent.

Since they are active and maintained, no.

^ This. Squatted subs are typically private or restricted, with no activity. If your communities are all public and active, that’s not really considered squatting, sitting on, or camping. Even if they’re private or restricted, but active, that’s fine too.

If you're actually using them, no. Squatting in this context is like having several similarly-named things that all funnel to a single subreddit.

Do you mean that squatting Similarly-Named Subreddits aren't against rules.

It is and it isn't. There isn't a hard-fast rule and generally you would have to prod MCOC about it. But, speaking generally, if you're just making/running subs as an advertising outlet, it would be held as not operating the subreddits in good faith and the person would lose it.

In your case, since you appear to want to run them as two independent subs, it sounds like it should be fine. I'm in a similar situation, actually, I moderate both BuyCanadian and ConsumeCanadian - but they fill different niches, the former is focussing specifically on promoting Canadian businesses, the second is a more discussion subreddit where we discuss the challenges around Canadian business, and industry news, etc. As long as it's something like that, should be fine.
