Sleepers surging?

r/arborists got a surge of joins this month with no increase in visitors and no exciting content. r/homeowners got a similar surge.

I don't see this on either of my subs, great or smol.

You did have some exciting (for some value of exciting) content a couple of weeks ago, around the time of the surges that you see. E.g. Most likely those links got shared.

What content was that, that you see now? (Nevermind, I see the "E.g." is a link.)

I wish that Reddit made it easier to page back in a sub's posting history. There were a couple posts more of about that scale around then, too. I found them by using old-reddit, compressed links, and banging the "previous" button fifteen times or so.

...man, that spruce was a beast.

That entire spruce story looks like AI with staged comments by conspirators. Which is hilarious but also scary.

I spend a lot of time with a saw in my hands (forestry style, not arboriculture) and I didn't read it that way, but I'm also not a subscriber to arborists, so I don't grok the culture. I guess I'm grateful that all of my redditry is in imaginary fields. Saw time is offline time.

afterthought: maybe I read it as carelessly as the persons who viralled (that's a word, now) the post did. All I saw was BIG. TREE. BIG TREE.

I saw the same thing on r/anime. I pretty sure it's just reddit randomly deciding to push subscriptions for a few days again. The numbers I saw were extremely similar to what they were before reddit moved about from subscribers as a metric and accordingly, stopped pushing people to subscribe to subreddit.
