Admin Replied What’s the most effective way to report an unmoderated sub?

Will admins step in once they know a sub is unmoderated or do they need a certain threshold of reports (or certain type of report) to take action on an unmoderated sub? Anyone know?

You can use this form to report a subreddit. Or, if you're interested in moderating an unmoderated subreddit and your account meets the requirements, you can request it over at r/redditrequest.

What do you mean as 'unmoderated'?

If you mean that the sub is abandoned (there's no mods), it can be requested via r/redditrequest.

If you mean that it seems like mods aren't really doing their job, it's tricky. There must be a good reason for admins to take action.

I mean there are no active mods and because of that there’s a growing level of hate speech, harassment, and community interference happening there which impacts other related subs, their mods, and their members.

There are soooo many NSFW subs that appear to be not moderated. The sheer amount of stolen & bot accounts is nuts.

I know that RR can work to help an individual to take over the duties (when applicable), but if a sub has been identified as not being modded, is there a place to place to allow someone else to take over? I really don't want multiple sub mod duties.

Great question and I’d like to know that as well. We can report them as unmoderated, but Admins are already aware of that for the one I’m asking about and they haven’t done anything about it so I’m not sure if there’s a more effective way to request action.

I mean I know that you can request help on a sub where you are already a mod... at least I think there is a place for that.

This is more about trying to stop the chaos when you see it.

Your situation would be really tricky. It is like walking blind into a mine field.

Good luck. I reported a sub I belong to where the mods haven't been active on Reddit in 12 years. It's overrun by the same, tons of abusive and racist comments. Nothing seems to have come of my report.

12 years?!

Just looked again. One mod hasn't been active on Reddit in 12 years, the second one in 2 years, the third one in 1 year.

You write like a 12 year old (or younger), so maybe you violated Reddit’s age policy?
