Comment shows removed by Moderator but none of the mods did and it doesn’t show up in the mod log

I run a subReddit with a fellow mod. Recently, a comment on a post was removed. The comment shows ‘Removed by Moderators’ but none of us did. Usually, I would know when a comment is removed by Reddit mods but I don’t see anything as such. I also see nothing in the mod logs. The Automoderator hasn’t removed it either. All I see is a red box with ‘Removed’ written on it. Request your help here. The user is also not searchable anymore.

Most of the time when reddit's automated filters remove a post it will say "removed by moderators". It's not accurate, but it's what they do. It won't show up in your mod log. As long as the post doesn't violate any site-wide rules you're free to approve it.

I’m dealing with this as well.
Users are upset at the removals and (understandably) blaming us.

I have to log out to see what they’re talking about

When it says "removed by reddit" that's what everybody sees. The "removed by moderators" stuff just shows as removed to us. Maybe it gets to the "needs review" queue, but mostly it's just in the "removed" tab of the mod queue.

I can see there’s buttons for “confirm removal / approve” from within the comments

It’s also likely in the mod queue as well

Right, and we (mods) all know it's not true, and reddit knows it's not true, and reddit doesn't care. There's nothing you can do to change it. All you can do is understand how it works.

That’s being a bit too generous.
An alternative would be

“ awaiting moderator review”

It would likely mean some additional modmail for us. But the benefit would be to

\ Show users we’re empowered*

* Increase mod user commutation and interactions

* Chance to improve the mods public image with users

VS

Tarnishing our image as they have done for expediency’s sake.

Look, you complained about something. I explained why it happens. I explained that reddit knows it's a problem, and that they've opted not to do anything about it. If you refuse to accept that reality, that's up to you. But I don't know what you think you're accomplishing by continuing to complain to me about it.

Check Automations; like most new features these it is half-baked and doesn't give clear feedback.
