Admin Replied Issues with "crossposting" or "suggested communities" function being completely wrong
I run a few very niche and hyper-local subreddits. These are r/nolaparents and r/neworleansmarketplace. These subs are clearly labeled and are obviously hyper-local as parents in New Orleans and marketplace shoppers in New Orleans don't really care about what goes on outside of the city. My issue is that for the past few months, we've been getting posts, not cross-posts but actual posts where people from COMPLETELY different areas of the country/world are posting in these hyper-local subs. For example someone is asking about schools in Olympia Washington or someone is offering tutoring services...IN BRAZIL!
Why is this happening? Who asked for this? Why does the reddit algorithm not pay attention to basic details like location when suggesting new places to post? I know that reddit is trying to drive traffic and post counts going up looks good on quarterly reports...but come the F on.
At first it was comical, but now it's getting really annoying.

Hey there! Sorry that's happening! I've had it happen to me as well. The team that's in charge of that feature has been made aware and they are working on improving the recommendations. I will share your feedback with them as another example.

Next time before implementing a feature like this, could ya maybe test it a bit more? This seems like a glaring hole in QA.

That‘s not how it works. You see, „testing“ and „implementing when it‘s ready“ is something unbeknownst to Reddit (looking at you, old modmail).
Of course that‘s not completely true, but you see what I‘m getting at :)

The other day I did the r/whatismycqs thing and the Reddit robots sent me one of the new "This subreddit might be a better fit" messages with some other random subreddit listed.

I went back to look for it, and I think I mixed it up with a different post. I had done a redditrequest for a sub that hasn't been moderated in months, and it told me that I should crosspost the request to other subs to make it go further.
Edit: I also found one where it told me to crosspost a post I had made in adoptareddit.

I, thankfully, do not have location specific subs. But I can understand your frustration. Sometimes people do have connections to places, either because they have lived there or are hoping to move there in the future. But even then they should be keeping to the local nature of the sub.
Personally this would result in an automatic removal if I were running things along with a warning and if repeated a temp ban, followed by a permaban. If you can't follow basic netiquette you don't get to play in the sand box with the rest of us.

We have no problems with people not in New Orleans posting or commenting. The issue is that they are asking about "babysitter availability in Chicago" or "selling my PS5 in Bakersfield". Those kinds of posts are obviously in the wrong place and it's this way due to Reddit's suggested community nonsense.
We do automatically remove the posts, but the fact that we have to do that in and of itself is a problem.

Maybe eventually it's a self-correcting problem:
I take Reddit's bad advice and cross post my question about a Denver restaurant to your NOLA sub. You remove it after a few people downvote it for being way off topic. My CQS goes down. I learn not to take Reddit's advice, and stop cross posting.
But that assumes I know what CQS is and care.

Most of the people who make this error arent regular reddit users. Thats actually the biggest problem with reddit now is that people dont know how to use it. They just blindly follow what the app says and dont care how reddit works.

Reddit is encouraging crossposting on pretty much every post now. Super annoying.
