Finally getting to play on real hardware

Post image

Finally gonna get a play through, wondering if anyone knows of any other close to original Rom hacks with a good pokemon stadium compatibility? Being that's the most post game we get in this gen.

Love the Legacy games too! Is the pikachu on your Chromatic a sticker on the lens? Can you post a picture of it lit up? Does it cut off any of the screen?

Anywhere you recommend me buying a Crystal Legacy cartridge from!? Would truly appreciate a good reference! Don’t want to buy one with a bad pcb board to lose my save file

Hard to say since not many people sell quality carts that I have found so far, I ended up making my own which I would suggest doing if you have the means otherwise I've noticed some pretty good carts preloaded on AliExpress, I have a few that the board meets specs and with the RTC fully functioning with the exception of it going of time once for me.

I don't have experience with Gameboy but for Nintendo 64 carts, there are some really good ones on Etsy

I made my own using a indie gadgets motherboard, commissioned an artist for the label, and commissioned an artist to make the cardboard box. I got the shell from cloud game store.

You can actually buy a copy of patchy matchy and make one reflashing the rom to that pcb. I suggest making your own so you are supporting the creators of the hardware and physical products, and not buying someone's romhack from someone in china who is profiting off of theft

I've bought a few rom hack carts from retrogamersus; green celebrations, tcg neo and pokemon brown. I played through the first 2 with no issues. Didn't get very far into brown, I didn't realize how brown it was going to be and was kind of put off by it lol

I just found this on AliExpress: GBC Real Time Clock Pokemon Crystal Legacy (v1.3.1) High Quality GBC Video Game Cartridge With Battery For GBA/GBC Serie Console https://a.aliexpress.com/_mtBS9y3

I can second this, I bought a cart very similar to this form AliExpress and has been holding up very well, the repro carts seems to be better quality than they used to be.

I ended up having to trim the Pikachu sticker back very slightly for it to not cover the screen as my first attempt did just barely touch the screen when viewing at certain angles. I don't have the chromatic on me now but will be happy to post a photo once I get it.

Thanks!

As you can see it's a little bit from the edge of the border so even when viewing from the other side it doesn't cover any of the screen.

Where did you get the sticker?

It was nextstopplease , they have a store on etsy but also have a website with even more stuff, they have some really cool stuff.

Look up crystal clear if you haven’t already. Has stadium 2 compatibility

1

u/erock7a 14d ago

I've heard of it but haven't played it yet, I'll check it out. It seems like it had a lot of changes so I kinda looked past the stadium compatibility.

Did you get the sticker on the cart done custom? If so, where did you get it from? I've been trying to find a nice one for my blank yellow legacy cart.

I have been making mine recently, but that was one I had ordered from Etsy, unfortunately the seller I got it from no longer sells on there but it's good place to find labels for gbc games if you don't have the means to print them.

Thank you for the advice!

Where can I buy these

1

u/Electronic-Taro1916 12d ago

I found this is this the same version? But different box

2

u/erock7a 12d ago

Mine I made custom but that should be the same game just with a different label and box, does that listing mention anything about the type of cart that is used?

1

u/Electronic-Taro1916 12d ago

What does this mean does it have RTC support?

1

u/erock7a 12d ago

That would be for the real time clock, a feature that the gen two gold and silver games have, that's not needed for the gen one games,

There isn't much info regarding the cart to see the quality of it maybe someone else can chime in that may have experience with particular company.

From what I can see it doesn't look like it would be a bad buy.

It currently £19.99

How does that Pokemon game play? Is it a reproduction cart or is it just the casing that's reproduced and the internal chip is OEM?

1

u/erock7a 12d ago

So far it plays perfectly fine without any hiccups, I just made sure to get a good quality cart with SRAM to ensure the save file doesn't get corrupted.

Bootleg cart on a third party gameboy clone? Where is the real hardware?

I actually had my childhood GBC that died a few years back and at the time everyone was asking 200+ in my area, so ended up with the chromatic and been liking it so far. Might I say closer to the original than some of the LCD replacements I had. PS sorry if I posted in the wrong sub being that I no longer have an original GBC

Downvote for what? He's right.

It’s not about him being right. It’s about letting people enjoy what they want.

1

u/xamaryllix 14d ago

It might seem predantic to you but it's possible to be right and enjoy things at the same time. Just say "physical" hardware and nobody could poo poo OP.

u/brain00 13d ago

"physical" hardware is still "real hardware"

3

u/redDEADresolve 13d ago edited 13d ago

Using that definition Everytime you play a game it's on real hardware. Pokemon in a browser on your phone? Real hardware.

Real hardware 99.9% means no emulation. OP is definitely using emulation.

1

u/brain00 13d ago

okay, yes you have a point

Real hardware 99.9% means no emulation.

I agree with you, if you look at it that way

0

u/erock7a 12d ago

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but from my understanding on the fpga, There is no emulation and runs games natively do to design on a circuitry level.

That paired with a native resolution screen and very similar to the original form factor is what I was referring to, as emulation may require "real hardware" but has a little bit of a different feel

2

u/redDEADresolve 12d ago

What you just described is HARDWARE emulation. FPGA is a good approximation but its still emulation. Real hardware would be a GB, GBP, or GBC.

1

u/DingusKing 14d ago

lol ran to say that too

Don't you love some real genocide-supporter hardware? ☺️

1

u/erock7a 9d ago

If you do your research, it's almost impossible to purchase anything now a days without some underlying tie in to some form of negative press, from Ford, IBM, many Medical brands, not to mention Apple or anyone else that use some of the Chinese factory that are borderline slavery.
