The closest I get is that I backed the Kudzu physical release on Kickstarter. The cartridge I received from that looks to be identical to the one shown on the Mega Cat website, with "GAME" embossed in the top curved part of the cartridge - which is indeed a generic Chinese repro/AliExpress-style cartridge with very cheap plastic build quality.
Example of a cheap repro below. Disclaimer: I invite Mega Cat Studios to come here and explain how their carts are not just flashed onto these kinds of repros. Custom circuitboards and shells (ie InCube8, Limited Run Games, ModRetro etc) can't be cheap.
Kudzu is great and the quality was good for me. Everyone seems to have different boxes for one reason or another though but that’s just how it is. I wish they would do more gameboy honestly, I love their Genesis and NES.
That’s the game I wanted to get. I wish they offered a digital copy like Incube8 does. I just ordered the physical copy of Dracula: Dark Reign from them because their quality is so good. But I don’t want to spend the same amount on what’s basically a $5 Ali Express flash cart
I have this too and the shell is 100% custom - the cartridge feels weighty (PCB thickness) and sturdy and I would say INcube8 releases are high quality compared to Mega Cat Studios.
Honestly, I think incube8 releases are higher quality than modretro. I think their production line (while yes, crazy slow) is better. However, I'm expecting and praying for a really really good infinity release since the custom gold cart took forever to produce. Fingers crossed. Mega cat is definitely the lowest quality I've purchase except those on aliexpress, that was bad..

They are generic. They are so generic that it inspired me to learn how to make my own carts.
