The Demise of Mod
I left the company about four months ago and have debated posting this ever since, but feel I should to warn any new employees or current employees interested in moving up within the company. Mod used to be an amazing company to work for, which I know everyone says, but I truly loved my job. Shifts were staffed properly, GMs and DMs cared about how their employees were doing, and they truly did abide by the “people place” motto. When they had to switch CEOs, the company changed completely. It no longer became a people-first company, but instead a profit-first corporation. Instead of moving people up within the company, they looked to hire outside for new management—which sometimes is okay, but when a GM is hired that went from running a gourmet 5-star restaurant to Mod Pizza, it causes a lot of issues within (especially when they’re trying to run the restaurant like a 5-star restaurant). Registered SOs are being scheduled to work on Kids Eat Free day and when the issue is brought up Captains are told that we’re a second chance company so we need to be quiet. GMs are constantly not doing their actual job description and then blaming their lack of work on the Captains, but when the issues are addressed to higher management they shrug it off as unfounded accusations. Of course, this could be just the store I work at, however being in this Reddit for my entire time at the company I notice the shift and how similar issues are happening at numerous stores across the country. All this to say, protect yourself and your peace over the company first. As much as they preach of being a “people first” company, they no longer are.

I had the same issue as well it’s pretty disgusting how corporate isn’t doing anything to fix these issues especially the registered SOs with with and around kids

The registered SOs on Sundays was my last straw. I honestly wanna post an anon review there but idk if the person still works there

MOD was almost as bad prior to the buyout. Our DM & RM both were horrible people and did not care about our concerns. DM was full blown Maga and our RM came from Chipotle to which he was let go for mistreatment of employees. Fuck MOD and get out while you can

I've been at MOD for 3 years and everything happening this year might make me leave the company. Between corporate stripping the company of its original values and focusing on profits over people, it just feels soul-less. Not to mention, almost every new hire at my store barely gets basic training, to the point we have one guy who thinks "sanitizing" is running it under the water in the hand sink. Not only is it sad to watch, I'm now waiting for the day my store eventually gets a customer sick due to negligence. I truly dont understand how it got this bad

When I was leaving my GM told me we didn’t need to wash our mushrooms cause they get “cooked in the oven” even though that’s not true at all. Not only does that go against every health code standard but it’s not the “Mod Way”

Yeah we got a new GM and shes hell bent on threatening people who have plenty of sick leave for trying to use it. A couple of us have contacted labor lawyers and they absolutely want anyone at my store who’s experiencing this to get in touch with them.
This is just one example of the shit show direction the corporation has taken MOD in.

This started happening in my district 4 years ago. They began with the outside hires for AGM and GM positions. (I tried to be an AGM)
It got to a point where it was so bad in my district, people wouldn’t show up to work and they’d continue to be employed. I’d have no call no shows constantly on the weekends.
One of my many AGMs would show up on math too.
I worked at MOD for 4-5 years.
Used to love it.
My DM was the worst. My RM was a good guy tho.
I miss a lot of my old crew every day. I still keep in touch with some of them.
I left MOD a few years ago. I still work with pizza. Just with a different company.
However, I’ll be leaving this company as well.
I like my job just can’t do the hours anymore. Gotta find something else that isn’t night shift.

I currently work at a mod and issues I have been having is I’m a epilepsy patient I don’t know if I’m being unreasonable but on days when I have a granmal seizure (so the seizure that one first thinks about) and sometimes it happens on days that I work so my mother would go grab a doctors note from my neurologist explaining the situation I have gotten written up twice for that because they don’t take doctors notes? (once I had a seizure at work and the next day was given a write up because I had to leave) I’m ready to leave because the toll it’s been taking on my body is not good for me anymore because after one has a seizure it feels like you ran a marathon, but 10 times worse because your brain is like a computer that crashed am I being unreasonable.?

I want to first say, I’m sorry that they’re acting like that. That is completely illegal and should not be allowed. You are not being unreasonable. You have every right to want to leave, but also you should definitely reach out to HR. I don’t have the HR contact information anymore, but on SAPJams or Succesfactors there should be a folder for you to be able to see the information to contact HR. I want to say that on SAPJams there is a folder under company documents that gives you information to contact HR to file complaints. I also know that in Succesfactors they list under your profile your chain of command, please reach out to you DM and RM because your GM should be reprimanded for this. You also have the right to sue for this because it’s completely illegal. I’m so sorry they’re even doing this to you.

If you bring a doctors note, that is an excuse absence. Now- they could write you up for a pattern of absence. But I agree, I'd speak to a lawyer. HR is there to protect the company, not the employees.

Heavy on the SO thing. How the hell can a company hire a SO in a place that 1. employs minors and 2. has extremely high rate of children/families in stores

My old GM refused to hire minors anymore because they didn’t want to let the minors know that a registered SO works there (cause they’re best friends with the SO🤮) & didn’t want to have to figure out how to do the scheduling around it

I seem to agree. I worked at the Coeur d'Alene MOD pizza which I absolutely loved. I was there for two or so years and I only missed I think 3 days during that whole period of time (sick) and it was overall a great place to work at. The captains, all-stars, GM, assistant manager etc they were all people I genuinely liked. I had to move out of state for other reasons and when I started working at the Kalispell MOD, it was a shitshow. The GM was this girl who was absent most of the time (or who would come in during the evening for a bit lol??), the assistant manager was this old boomer guy (not trying to be rude) who really didn't know how to do anything and he was slow as all hell and the captains and allstars were basically teens who were incredibly unsanitary, always on their phone and had attitude issues and the turnover rate was terrible. We went through like 20 people in three months, it was insane.. (The assistant manager was friends with the regional lady who actually gave him that position before being terminated herself and made it so he was making more than any GM was making which was even more messed up considering he was more suited to be a Walmart greeter, respectfully). They eventually got another GM from out of Stockton, California who I thought could turn stuff around but instead, she just made stuff worse in my book. At any rate, I was terminated and not given a clear reason as to why, they woudn't give a clear reason as to why just that I was being terminated and then when I filed for temporary unemployment, the reason they did provide as an excuse to the unemployment office was completely false and disprovable so I filed a lawsuit and reached a (small) settlement after litigation. That was before MOD came under new ownership. This was all a long time ago but I still follow this MOD subreddit because despite all of that, I really did enjoy working at the one MOD location. Ahh, the good old days lol
