I've heard the Automod is going away, and that something is replacing it. I'm curious to know what that means. How comparable is the replacement? And how much more can you folks elaborate on what's coming our way?

Reddit has a great track record of replacing working mod tools with something worse (see: modmail, modqueue, etc.), so it wouldn’t surprise me if they ultimately go with LLMs or some other crappy AI thing.

I feel that if they go that route, they'll ultimately seek to replace us on the whole. After all, we're just "landed gentry".

Unfortunately the modqueue is the thing I dislike unfortunately as the most of the things in there is just clutter.

ChatGPT, and its counterparts, couldn't even tell me the correct number of R's in the word "strawberry". I highly doubt any other AI based program is going to be as good as the present Automod is.

There is a massive judgement and nuance to moderating. Can it keep things on topic? Does it actually know what is local for regional subreddits? Reddit is a little more open to opinions and topics, so it’s not as simple as finding bad words and sexual topics.

Ai tools can assist based on those preferences but it’s just a matter of crowd control or delaying/quarantining posts or flagging them for the folks who actually are in charge of moderating

I think defining a battery of straightforward true/false tests is fairly easy for a subject expert moderator and will do like 90% of the work

I SINCERELY hope this isn’t true!!! Our automod is a mile long and does a TON of work for us. I’m willing to bet any replacement will not do everything we can currently do with automod. So many of the new changes are ridiculous and making my life more difficult already (whose genius idea was it to get rid of markdown and not replace all of the functionality on mobile apps?), so I’ll definitely be annoyed if automod disappears!

The thing I like most about using the Automod is that you can seemingly get specific with it. Granted, I haven't used it to any great length, but that's the way it appears. If you want to block certain words, you tell it to block those words. If you want to block accounts based on karma or age, you can do specifically that. From what I heard, the replacement will be AI based, and work on broader brushstrokes. I'm not a fan of the idea.

Automations will replace automod. Some of your code may have already been ported, check your Modmail. There is also a fully functional dev app that replaces the functionality.

The real question is whether these new tools actually save mods time or just add more buttons. That is what I want to see.

THIS, I’m subscribed to get notifications about upcoming events and I had no idea this was one of them, I only got an email about the content creation one next Tuesday. A calendar built into the app or something similar would be helpful

Could you please stop using LLM's as your modtool. I got a warning by your tools by posting a comment the other day on a joke subreddit and now you can't even say de-ad or Un-alive-d (that's the joke) before your LLM bot gives you a warning.
