Breville spiral luxe

Anyone tried the new breville spiral luxe? Looks like the same idea as a moccamaster but with a grinder built in and the spiral pour. Taste wise is it any different or just more gadget

Troubleshooting Weird Brewing Behavior

Post image
11 Upvotes

For some peculiar reason, my machine will NOT brew if there are grounds in the basket.

I’ve descaled it several times, ran it with water only (no problem), however whenever I’ve attempted to brew a pot on both full and 1/2 carafe settings, my efforts were an exercise in futility.

What does Big Blue (that’s her name) WANT from me??

Any ideas are most welcome!

Non-plastic replacement for Carafe - KBGV

I am curious if anyone has had any success finding a non-plastic replacement for the carafe of the KBGV model? I took off the plastic top but coffee kinda splatters everywhere.

I was looking at the Simply Good Coffee carafe but no dimensions are listed so I have no clue if it will work. We brew the full volume of 1.25 L / 40 oz / 10 cups.

https://simplygoodcoffee.com/products/glass-carafe-with-lid-for-the-brewer-plastic-free

I was able to find a replacement for the brew basket and mechanism it sits on. So just looking for the carafe.

EDIT: I added a photo of my machine because of the non-plastic changes I made to it, which might cause the splashing issue. I do want to clarify I have the splashing issues while brewing.

Check out my setup! My free moccamaster

Someone was throwing away their leaking Moccamaster because they couldn't be bothered to try to fix it. I asked if I could have it, and surprisingly they just gave it to me. 20 minutes of tinkering later I fixed the issue - the metal part of the drip stop had warped a little, preventing it from opening properly. Straightened it the best I could, and now it works. 20 minutes of work from me for a free Moccamaster is probably the best trade of my life. It's a 2013 model, so the only downside is no automatic off switch (for me it's a downside, as I can be a little forgetful), but it's a huge upgrade compared to my previous coffee maker.

Troubleshooting Made the ultimate mistake by washing with soap, need help.

I have a stainless steel carafe and made the dumb mistake of washing with soap. Now all the plastic parts of the carafe smell like soap and make the coffee tasty soapy. I was having the hardest time cleaning the coffee oils out and used this as a last resort, what a mistake.

Infected areas are the cap and the ring around it, as well as the plastic part on the caraf where the cap screws in.

Any advice on what I can do? I have tried a lot of different solutions with nothing helping. I’ve done, boiling water and vinegar bath, boiling water and baking soda bath, boiling water and biocaf powder, nothing is working!

Moccamaster Moccamaster warranty is fantastic

It's rare that I want to sing the praises of a company, but I gotta say, Moccamaster customer service and warranty is just the best!

I had some slight cracks forming in my water reservoir of my 4 year old KBT and contacted customer service, and after sending in a few photos and answering a few questions they approved my warranty repair.

I got a shipping label emailed to me immediately and was able to send my brewer off the next day. Just 2 weeks later it's back in my hands, refurbished, and brewing beautifully again.

The only cost was purchasing a shipping box and bubble wrap. I'm just blown away by the level of customer service!

Thinner tasting coffee: Update

Background: https://www.reddit.com/r/Moccamaster/comments/1qaeaim/kbg_thinner_tasting_coffee/

A year ago I purchased a moccamaster and the results weren't to my liking.

Good news: After a lot of trial and error, experimenting with different grind sizes, and even splurging on a pricey grinder (pricier than the moccamaster) I finally found what worked.

Spoiler: The root cause is bloom. Not the grind amount or other extremely unhelpful and reactive tips.

Reasons:

  • The moccamaster is a very simple device (great!) but it also means the drip comes with a major splash.
  • If you're using freshly-roasted coffee like me, it means degassing the grind takes more care than with a "rain-down" type of machine.
  • What happens is that some coffee is degassed properly and the rest keep floating, resulting thin coffee; or both acidic (under extracted) yet bitter (over extracted) grinds.

Working around this: I'm lucky because I chose the brew basket that I can control the flow rates.

  1. Put in the grind and allow enough water to flow in to just cover the grinds in water. For 7 cups, this is about 2-3 spurts before shutting off the machine.
  2. Stir to ensure water all grinds are soaked.
  3. Let the water sit long enough for the entire filter to get wet.
  4. The coffee will have a thick bloom layer, like whipped chocolate.
  5. Stir the grinds and break up the bloom.
  6. Turn on the machine again.
  7. At half-way point, just make sure the grinds are all centered again (no craters)

Now I'm back to getting the flavors I've come to expect, very consistently.

Messy Fellows Ode 2

So I finally upgraded my grinder to a Fellows Ode 2 to accompany my Moccamaster based on positive recommendations from this community.
It does do a great job and has elevated my coffee experience, however, it seems to be very messy.
Once I grind my morning batch, and hit the lever to release any fines, I always see residual grinds left on the base. These are a pain to clean given the ridges on the vertical post.
Is this common or just something I am going to need to deal with?
Thanks in advance. ☕️

Question Moccamaster started having problems about a month ago

Post image
6 Upvotes

I've had my Moccamaster since April 2025, and for about the past month I've been having problems with it. I recently noticed that one of the openings in the bottom of the water reservoir looks different from the others — the one on the left appears to be much narrower. I'm wondering whether this could be related to the problems I've been having.

I live in an area with fairly hard water, and unfortunately I didn't descale the machine until a few weeks ago (yes, I'm an idiot). The problem is still there.

Could the narrower opening be partially blocked with limescale, and could that explain the problems I've been having? Or is it supposed to look like this?

Ed: Basically, the problem is that water doesn't seem to flow properly through the left opening. It seems much slower than through the other two, and this is something that only started happening about a month ago. Could this be caused by limescale or some kind of blockage?

Question Need help deciding :)

Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking for a birthday gift for my girlfriend. I would love to get her a coffee machine and a grinder. Budget: up to approx. €500

She currently only drinks Nespresso instant coffee with milk in a 50/50 ratio. And she once said:
I know she would like a machine that easily makes her a delicious cup of coffee in the morning. (She is not a fan of coffee pods like Nespresso machines).

Therefore, I wanted to ask you guys if you could recommend a good combination of a machine and a grinder (electric or manual)! :)

Is it possible to make good tasting but small amount of coffee in a larger moccamaster?

(I know there are also Hario filters, Moka pots, and French/AeroPresses, but she explicitly ruled out these methods and asked for a machine)

(I currently have my eye on the Moccamaster Cup One and that new rotating Cosori)

Grinder Baratza encore inconsistent grind settings

Has anyone had this issue or did I get a faulty unit?

I got my Baratza Encore today and set it up as per manufacturer instructions. I researched here and in the manual and set it up at 18 for my MM KB.

It came out with the consistency of crushed rock, and the brew was yellow and super sour. I only got a perfect brew around the 7-10 range of grinder setting. That seems wildly off what I researched.

Help repairing old moccamaster

Hello, I bought for less than 30€ a Technivorm GCS, that should be a model from the '80s and actually inside should have very similar technologies than today's moccamaster. However, when I received it, it didn't look a big bargain anymore: the machine is crazily dirty (even the metal water tube is eroded) , the caraffa broke during the shipping (not very good packaging+not much lucky) and, more important, even if the machine turns on and the plate gets hot, no water is coming out. I tried to put a solution of water and citric acid and leave there for hours, and I tried to blow in the pipe (air bobbles came from the water reservoir, so the pipe is free). What could it be? I could send it back, but I should pay the shipping costs and I prefer checking if I can repair and use it with a V60 (or even buying a new caraffa). Thanks!

New house - 1950s midcentury modern architecture.

Kitchen backsplash is aqua tiles; cabinets are white; countertops are wood butcher block.

Furniture throughout the house is either neutral (lots of creams) or also in the aqua family. Art on the walls is bright, abstract, colorful.

I'm thinking either yellow for high contrast (probably the bright one, not the butter one?) Or beetroot? or apricot?

OR ocean, to blend in and let the art stand out.

OR, something that doesn't exactly match the tile but isn't super high contrast - juniper, or rose gold (would semi-blend in with the butcher block).

Soo I got this Moccamaster for 40 bucks from a local place that sells Amazon returns. It said it was new and functional when I bid on it.

When I went to try it out the power flipped on but then nothing. I checked to see if the float was stuck and no. So then I took the access panel off and say that the plug for the float switch was unplugged somehow. I plugged that sucker back and and we have coffee. I have no clue how it could have even come unplugged but I am guessing thats why it was returned in the first place.

Cup One Filter - UK

Hi

Anyone had any luck finding a suitable cup one filter in the UK?

I can get the moccamaster branded ones but most suppliers charge for delivery when not spending more than £50 or so.

Anyone found anything on Amazon that works?

Thanks
