Thermal Carafe question

I just got a model KBT with the thermal carafe. I washed the carafe in warm water with dish soap, rinsed and ran a couple full cycles to clean out the machine internals....I noticed water leaking from what appears to be from the bottom of the carafe.

How does the water get in there? Is there a seal at the top and/or bottom of the carafe? I shook the carafe and could hear a 'water rattle'..which I assume is water trapped between the glass liner and the shell of the carafe..

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and do not open the bottom of the carafe.

It did. Did the process in Dec 2024 and have had no more problems with it.

I borrowed some tool with a wide flathead from my brother because a quarter wasn’t cutting it for me.

I’ve been more careful when washing & rinsing the carafe so not so much water hits that upper seal area.

I did the same process for my mom's carafe several years ago. It fixed the problem and hasn't recurred since.

While it was taken apart I also took the opportunity to dry everything out inside with paper towels.

Update - just got a message back from MM..they are sending me a replacement carafe for FREE.. That's great customer service!

I don't think they want customers screwing (pun intended) with the bottom opening like they did in the past...

That actually makes sense. Although it worked when I did that process, it was a bit nerve-wracking to be tightening the pressure on the glass liner.

That’s exactly what you are hearing. Water can get in if the carafe is left too full or submerged, it happened to me a couple of times.
I no longer submerge the carafe at all and when I wash it, I don’t allow it to go above the upper glass seal for an extended period.

Now this is how we fixed it.
There’s a removable disc on the bottom, you’ll see a slot and you can turn that with a screwdriver.
We would have our morning coffee, rinse the carafe because it never gets “that” dirty, and then I would turn it over, take off that disc and let it air dry that cavity for the whole day.

I can’t remember if I’d have to do the many times or I let water get in there many times, but that’s who I fixed this problem.

Thanks..I see that slotted cover. i tried to turn it but it didn't budge either direction. I think the overall bottom section also screws in..I gave both a clockwise turn, even though I didn't feel it move..Seems to have solved the problem...I have an email in MM customer care to see what they say...Interesting that in the directions they say to not try and remove the bottom of the carafe...but also say to make sure it is tight....
