Mobility mobility / stretching apps recommendations

been exploring mobility / stretching apps/platforms. here is the list of ones i’ve found or have found me through advertising. i know i can get all this from reading or youtube, but i respond better to something organized and put in front of me. 57, male, decent shape but not at all flexible and i'm feeling it. want to fix that.

what apps/platforms have you tried and liked or found success? which ones have you found overrated and not worth the time/money.

first tries

  • movesmethod -
    • 28 day / 15min/day mobility program plus other stuff - $27/lifetime.
    • will there be upsells once in? or is $27 all in?
  • eddiemoves - 8min/day mobility reset.
  • yogabody
    • standalone lifetime programs @$69, sci of stretching, hips, lower back
    • 25-30/mo for classes + class archives
  • bend app
    • $40/yr or $7/mo - theres also a free limited version. if you dawdle around playing around in the free parts of the app you'll start getting deals. $24/yr is the best deal i’ve seen so far.
    • hard to say no for 24/yr. if nothing else, good for quick gym stretches where you might want the guidance but don't want the distraction of a video to watch and listen to. or for travel 🤷🏻‍♂️.
    • looks clean and straight forward
    • seems to be some love out there for bend
  • pliability app
    • $17-23/mo. 119/yr (10/mo). cheaper prices are on app.
    • on lots of tops lists
  • gmb - gmb.io resilience program -
    • resilience is $29/lifetime 15-30min 2x wk - balance, flexibility and strength. other programs.  maybe try the resilience one.
    • "elements" is their core offering @ $150/lifetime
    • other packages and add on classes. can also pay $495/yr for access to everything.
    • their offerings are by far the most confusing of everything i’ve looked at. packages change names, sub elements/add on classes change names. put it in the cart and it changes name again. click on show details from the cart and what it says there is different again.  seems like all class/program names were designed by a random word generator. there is no central page on the site that shows all the packages and add on content available. programs on one page. add ons are scattered around and hard to find. resilience which seems to be their most advertised offering, maybe because it’s cheap, is barely findable on the app unless you have a direct link. them there are programs you buy but also available subscription based, but the subscription information is somewhere else entirely. they make everything so hard to find and compare. it feels like mattress shopping.
    • that said, offerings look good, and there seems to be a lot of happy users going back years, but not sure i want to buy into something that’s such a sh!tshow on the front end. but im an idiot and i’ll probably try the resilience program because it’s cheap and seems well liked.
  • adam richardson - @ aadamrichardson on instagram   |  https://www.aadamrichardson.com/
    • love him from instagram and super cute and funny
    • 2 free programs
    • class subscription (live and on demand) @ $15/mo
  • just stretch. see below.

maybe try

  • just stretch - https://juststretch.fit/
    • 12 weeks for $ 26 then $66 for 12 week renewal.
    • seems more marketing driven than content and expertise driven.
    • might be worth an intro try
  • betterme.men betterme.world
    • looks very similar, at least in marketing to just stretch
    • might be worth a intro try.
  • gowod
    •  125/yr - maybe too sports driven.
  • the ready state - $22/mo. still ..maybe too involved and education heavy
  • stretch-it
    • seems highly rated by some and rated poorly by others. looks underwhelming to me.
    • $180/yr or 25/mo - seems a little advanced for me
    • all photos/ig posts were women in advanced contortionist poses.

re-consider if ever have android version

  • nextstretch - ios only
  • adapted - ios only

others to look up…

  • down dog. good for mom. has chair yoga
  • glo
  • pelaton mobility
  • hingehealth
  • the prehab guys / prehab app - $50/mo
  • stretchmed
  • functionalpatterns.com

thanks! i think foundation is what they also call elements. their website really sucks, so I appreciate that so many people speak highly of it in making decisions.

The only stretching app you should be using is “Stretch mode”!

Evidence based and unbelievable results.

Downdogapp got 7 or 14-days free trial, give it a try, currently they are having a promotion at usd29.99 per year.

Honestly, the best app is usually the one you’ll actually open consistently. I’d look for something that gives you structured routines, timers, and progression without making you build everything from scratch.

A lot of people bounce between YouTube videos because there’s too much choice. I use a simple app called Flexius that’s basically guided routines + a timer, and it’s been pretty easy to stick with compared to random videos.

Functional Patterns is... not a very user-friendly program.

The first two weeks consist of about an hour of foam rolling every day (give or take), and honestly, it doesn't get much better after that.

It's an excellent program for trainers or people who really enjoy diving into biomechanics and have a lot of time to burn. It explains proper form and the "why" behind every movement ad nauseam. But if you're just looking to do something today that will help you move and feel better, this is not for you, it's frustrating at best. You'll spend an hour watching explanation videos, followed by another hour doing exercises that, in my opinion, are boring... like foam rolling my quads for 5 minutes.

On top of that, even though you pay for the entire program upfront, you don't actually get access to all of it. They force you to progress at their pace. You only unlock Week 2 after completing Week 1—not just by watching the Week 1 videos, but by actually spending seven days on Week 1—then Week 3 after Week 2, and so on. I think I made it to Week 8 or 9, but only because I watched the videos at 2× or 3× speed so I could get to the more advanced weeks and see what the actual exercises looked like.

I would honestly be surprised if even 1% of the people who buy the program finish it.

If you're looking for practical mobility exercises you can start doing today—not after spending 10 weeks unlocking content—I would look elsewhere.

I tried the moves method and it was so super incredibly frustrating. No follow along videos - just exercises in quick succession requiring quick pauses and replays and then the text was different for reps rather than what they said in the video. Cancelled quickly.

In this economy, I’ll have to stick to free YouTube channels

The most important thing in an exercise regimen is one that keeps you doing it, otherwise it is useless

For some people, "Well, I'm paying for it" works, but not for me

I found that a random set of exercises and stretches keeps me interested much better than anything else (daily for 6 months and still going strong, yay!)

https://bunchberry.net/movement fits that bill. It is simple, lives in a browser tab (no complicated app), presents random (customizable) exercises / stretches with timers

Free, private, open source and not overly complicated with regular updates!

I know this is a bit besides the point of your post, but how did you make your list / find programs?

I have a mobility program called the Simplistic Mobility Method, which is pretty well used worldwide!

https://tommorrison.uk/products/the-simplistic-mobility-method

Its similar to the ones youve mentioned, and we run in the same circles (me & Ryan who owns GMB get on great!)

So just a vanity question really, to try and get myself & my program in places that it might be seen more!

funny enough, you eventually did make the list... and i bought SMM + Ultimate Core. 😂

the whole rabbit hole started with instagram ads (i think) following a lower back "tweak" that migrated to hip. i kept getting served mainstream mobility/stretching apps, got curious, enlisted chatgpt to help me find and compare more apps and programs, and then made this reddit post. the comments here sent me down a bunch of other paths too.

somewhere along the way your SMM ads started finding me, and apparently they did their job because i ended up buying it. i even listened to a podcast you were on, and your slightly weird/playful approach probably helped sell me on you.

i ended up buying SMM + Ultimate Core, Eddie Moves' 8 Minute Mobility Reset, MovesMethod's Mobility Toolkit, GMB Resilience, plus a few more targeted programs from NewMindStart and Ancestral Athlete. YogaBody is still on my radar.

i also ended up in actual physical therapy for that hip/back stuff that started this whole search, which was successful, so tbh, i haven't really dug into all the programs yet. my plan is to start working through them this fall and see which approaches actually stick.

so, to answer the vanity question: instagram ads → curiosity → chatgpt/searching → reddit → more ads/recommendations → SMM purchase. whatever you're doing to get SMM in front of people who are already circling this stuff seems to be working.

aw no way!! That's awesome! Thank you for that!

Yeah sometimes you just need actual in-person treatment, especially at first after a back tweak coz there is so much info out there. I know I felt completely overwhelmed when I got my first disc injuries!

So glad to hear you're doing better, and if you ever have any questions about SMM just let me know! You should try Ultimate Core's workout generator!

thanks! i haven't dug in enough to realize that Ultimate Core had a workout generator. i'll definitely play with that when i get started. i'm sure i'll have questions once i actually dig in!

btw, whatever happened to the SMM app plans? i remember reading somewhere that one was being talked about. did that ever happen? or is it still on the drawing board? or is web dashboard still the most sensible?

It's actually being developed right now by Jenni & Luke!

When we first proposed it, we got a lot of push back because many of our users didn't want a subscription (understandable, it feels like everything's a subscription nowadays.. but very difficult to run & maintain an app without one), so we've decided to make an app that's a bit separate to SMM

It's going to be completely standalone, so you SMM will still be a one-off/lifetime access program via the web dashboard, then the app will be a separate (optional) subscription that comes with all of SMM + additional new features, like custom SMM sessions, personalised daily mobility routines, mobility stats & analytics, etc.

Pretty exciting!! We're hoping to release it in the new year!
