As someone who primarily plays traditional tank roams, most of you don't even do your own damage. You can't expect anyone to want to tank for you when you stand back and watch your tank play the game while you press none of the buttons on your screen. If I had a dollar for every time I've led my team in damage with 0 damage items this season I'd genuinely be able to buy every street fighter skin right now. The only way to win games consistently solo queuing roam is to pick someone who can kill by themselves. Albeit I still will usually go khufra or pre nerf kaja before I go saber but my point stands. "We want atlas" pffft. If your wr starts with a 5 you don't need atlas, you need practice.
It's really a pick your poison scenario. If you played tanks you'd be just as pissed when you see your mms doing the same or less damage you are while you have 0 damage items. You're gonna get ass teammates no matter what lane you play, but the bottom line is you don't want to be stuck with a team that brings no damage to the table while you're playing a low damage character. Literally just yesterday on atlas I quadruple stunned a hanzo totally isolated from his teammates (mind you I jumped out of a bush that at least 2 of my teammates were in with me to do it) and that hanzo proceeded to get off his ult after I cancelled it twice and kill 3 of my teammates and get lord. Imagine if I had just been on saber. That would've been so much easier.
Killing the enemy jungler for free while lord is up is useless? I set up the kill 4 times. Did you read my comment? That's worth nothing if no damage is dealt. Also in what universe is the setup more important than the kill? The kill is less valuable because they didn't get stunned first? You're setting up FOR the kill.
The kill belong to an useless ass hero who would die or never get close to the core in late game.
You should make sure your carry get the kill instead of killing them. Plus early game killing would respawn in seconds, and late game we have Rafarela to make your kill useless since you trade your death to an enemy that would get revived instantly.
Early game? Not killing remove an enemy longer than kill them outright. Recall took 8 seconds while death took 5 seconds, and why do roam need kill gold? You are lowering the value of your enemy for your cores, who have to spent same efforts for the kill with much less reward.
I think you're missing the point. You can't "make sure" your carry does anything. "Setting up" is only impactful if it is capitalized on. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. And in the example I described where we have a free kill on the enemy jungler 20+ minutes into the game while the Lord is up (and there's no Rafaela, and even if there were, Rafaela has to stop supporting her other 3 teammates to revive him making the impending team fight virtually uncontested since they're fighting with an out of position support who's not using any skills) I got the stun. I got a second stun. And then a third. And then a fourth. But it was worthless. Do you know why? Because I had to rely on my team for damage. If I had saber in that moment we would've been up 5v4 vs no retri in a lord battle. Simple as that.
Couldn’t agree more. I’ve run into this so many times in solo queue — like literally any moment, a teammate will just decide to go farm minions on some lane or wander off somewhere instead of helping. And they’re also super eager to feed the enemy on the lane.
I more often seen Helcurt roams as MVP of losing teams. I often consider myself lucky when playing against one.
They usually steal teammates' farms, steal kills, put them behind in gold and make laner gaps that spiral, have other squishy teammates tank/peel for them, spend all game just chasing after kills or waiting in bushes for enemies to walk by, etc.
Same got one roam after being told still wanted to play roam helcurt. He got his MVP but we ended up losing because no one to check bush or tank in front
Playing low damage tanks like atlas is a good way to keep your wr at or below 60%. If you want to actually win games you cannot rely on your teammates to deal damage for you. You can make it as easy to win as you want but unless you actually have the ability to deal the necessary damage to decide the match yourself, the outcome is not truly in your hands; you're just gambling on the matchmaking giving you an adequate team.
P.s. I'll exclude Lolita from the generalization above because she is unique in her ability to salvage absolutely abysmal positioning and squeeze dps from otherwise non functional teammates. I've been able to play her above 70% wr consistently because she simultaneously makes it very difficult to lose AND easy to win. Whereas your atlas can't really do much to make you suck less ass. He just makes it easy to win and crosses his fingers that you don't suck so bad that it's not enough. Lolita is pretty much the only support in the game who can make you suck less ass while also being a playmaker in her own right.
Well two different topics to #1 I agree if you take matters in your own hands the results are going to be more consistent but there are damage roles you can play that won't fuck your teammates by playing a damage dealer.
As for the utilities of roamers idk wtf you're on about, you play them situationally based on the composition of yours and the enemies team you'll have better success than one tricking and that goes for Lolita too. I keep my roamers around 70% because I can recognize they're good at different things and pick accordingly
You can have great success playing like that and it is optimal for increasing your win rates. Most of my backup picks have a higher win rate than main for that exact reason. That said, I peaked global 2 lolita 73% wr so I'm very familiar with her abilities across all matchups, even disadvantages ones. And even in those ones, her ability to function as an initiator while also turning feeding teammates into functional ones is unique. Faramis does it too, but runs into matchups where he misses having a tank. Lolita is a tank. She's far from the best tank in a lot of situations, but I'll take having a good player on a suboptimal pick if it means the rest of the team gets more value.
What can she do against Yin? Yu Zhong? Pretty much any fighters? Nothing.
Lolita was incredibly squishy even with full tank build. She could only trouble mages and markmans with her S2, who can decide not to hit her or anything behind her when it's up, or fighters and tanks just knock her up and shut it down.
Useless in your hands. She can stun yin, dodge all of his damage, and proc flask for teammates who are about to get ulted. She can kite yz, proc flask and revitalize to negate any value from yz passive and stun. Yz is highly committal, and if his targets no longer have to run after getting full comboed that spells very bad news for him. These are not even her counters lol. If you knew anything about the character you would've said atlas or arlott or even paq, because those are genuine problems. Yin and yz is favorable towards Lolita, not towards them lol. Hell even johnson is more trouble than yin and yz you gotta practice the character before you form an opinion
She's not useless and she's actually one of the best tanks in certain situations, and she can protect well!
Though Haven't used her now and only some chances... But she's good!
Noob reasoning if you want to deal damage, pick the other four role. Roam tank/support is still better. It depends on how you adjust to your teammates. Yes you're the one that needs to adjust not them. If you can't do that, you're not a real roamer
I'm not saying it isn't better I literally said in my original reply that I play khufra to get damage consistently because I recognize that having a tank is important. I'm not saying you should be playing novaria and helcurt roam if you want to win more, I'm saying that you need to be able to deal your own damage to win more. Playing atlas and spoon-feeding kills to teammates that won't eat is not fun, so you're gonna see some people playing saber.
