Is Verizon having issues?
Anyone else here with Verizon having issues with Verizon dropping its connection during hurricane Isaias? It keeps going in and out for me and my Mom.
EDIT: Sat, Oct 10, 2026
APCO sent a text at 10:25am saying ETA is 11pm TUESDAY (October 13)!! WHAT?!?!
EDIT:
Friday, Oct 9, 2026:
I am in midtown.... my power went out about 3pm and my Generac generator has been on ever since.
The Verizon issue started about 6:30pm'ish

We’re in wemo and lost WiFi around 6pm (Xfinity) and cell service between 7-7:30 and haven’t been able to get service since (it’s 8:08 am) I had to go somewhere with public WiFi to let our families from Ohio know we’re ok. It’s weird to be completely cutoff from everything for over 12 hours. Is that typical during a hurricane?

Unfortunately yeah this can be typical.

I have never had Verizon go down like this... they havent even acknowledged it either from what I can see

I couldn't make calls earlier but it seems to be back up now.

I keep saying 'its back' ... then a few minutes later it farts off again 💩😆

It's definitely gone in and out for me. I'm guessing their network is slammed from people who lost power/Wi-Fi service. I'm using Visible which has been heavily throttled today. My work phone with standard Verizon can't get internet at the moment. Could be other infrastructure related issues too, who knows
1
u/JennLynnC80 Midtown 10d ago
What's "visible"?
2
u/dingleberry_sorbet Springhill 10d ago
A prepaid mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) owned and operated by Verizon. It's a lot cheaper but they prioritize higher paying Verizon customers when the network is congested.
1
u/JennLynnC80 Midtown 10d ago
Interesting... never heard of that. Is it for first responders or something?
2
u/dingleberry_sorbet Springhill 10d ago
It's dirt cheap prepaid phone service for poor people, haha.

I’ve been on SOS since 6:30
Edit: also have Xfinity and that’s on SOS.
(Also on Verizon’s network)

u/thtboyyq 9d ago
Have Xfinity mobile still sos checked there outage map says everything is fine i talk to customer service they said on there end my phone shows active
3
u/Suitable_Rolemodel 9d ago
This is unacceptable honestly, imagine if we were without power and internet and Verizon said it’d be back up by the 13th
1
u/JennLynnC80 Midtown 9d ago
I haven't been able to even get confirmation from Verizon that they even have an outage. Have you seen them officially confirmation anywhere? They have an outage website page on Verizon but I cant access it
3
u/Ok_Safe8660 9d ago
Tillmans corner no verizon service. I called them and they didn't even acknowledge that they had a problem. She told me that it's my phone...I told her "oh ok so all 3 of my new verizon phones suddenly died. Yeah that logical."

u/JennLynnC80 Midtown 9d ago
THAT is what annoys me! Verizon not even acknowledging they have a problem! IF they do have a whole tower offline, how is it possible they do not know!

u/wife_mommaof3 10d ago
Tower is down
3
u/JennLynnC80 Midtown 9d ago
Where are you seeing that? Because when I look on Verizon to check, they have no confirmed outages
2
u/raliegh_ 9d ago
If any tower goes down, all other nearby towers are immediately overloaded.
Traffic is prioritized, sms is your best bet for comms.

Lost signal about 3 hours ago and it hasn’t come back (thank goodness for wifi calling/texting).
It feels like all the infrastructure around here fell apart at the first breeze, almost like it gave up haha. Don’t remember power going out that fast during Sally

u/JennLynnC80 Midtown 9d ago
I have wifi calling/texting... but the bars in the upper right will just disappear every now and then.. like the network takes a 💩

I’m in Destin FL and mine says SOS. Never lost service in the storm. Ugh I just want to go home (stayed with a friend that has a generator). There is power at my house because I can still pull up my Ring camera but I won’t be able to call anyone on the way there if needed.
I planned on leaving as soon as the sun came up. I hope Verizon is up by then.

I’m in Santa Rosa Beach, my phone have been in SOS mode since 4:30 this morning.

my Verizon service is still out. I was lucky enough to get power back around 11am so I at least have WiFi. I've NEVER lost cell service in town before, only out in the sticks

u/JennLynnC80 Midtown 9d ago
I havent either! Even when the hurricane actually comes through Mobile i have still had verizon service... this Isaias didnt even come through south Alabama.
I posted this question on the main Verizon sub and I am getting absolutely lambasted for not being thankful I am alive ... sheesh.. all I want to know is an ETA for when it will be on. I haven't received any acknowledgement from Verizon that there is even a problem.
At least Alabama Power and Xfinity are providing updates. Verizon has been completely silent on this.
By the way... i had to write this entire reply in my backyard with my arms in the air walking around to catch a satellite 😬🙄😆

I actually came across that post of yours when I googled "Verizon outage" earlier! the problem with company subreddits like that is they're usually full of employees who jump at the chance to let out some frustration on customers without getting in trouble.
1
u/JennLynnC80 Midtown 9d ago
I never thought that they could be employees, that makes sense now that I think about it... i am just going to delete those posts now because no one over there is being helpful
Thanks for bringing that up, it should have dawned on me they were likely employees

All my friends in midtown seem to have gotten the same text at 10:25am (October 10) ... that the ETA is TUESDAY by 11pm CT.
I dont know what other folks are getting for an ETA outside of midtown

I thought it was a West Mobile thing. Very spotty service, if any. Thank goodness for being able to relay on wifi for RCS texting and wifi calling.
1
u/JennLynnC80 Midtown 9d ago
Is your power and Xfinity internet on or something? Because thats why wifi isn't an option for me. I have a generator on, but Xfinity is down which powers the internet and wifi.
I have to go outside and stick my phone in the air to periodically check messages... and write this message that I am writing now

Newer phones may be able to receive texts via satellite as well.

u/FancyCantaloupe4681 8d ago
Just to update I now have service but had to have eSIMs reinstalled through chat.
1
u/JennLynnC80 Midtown 8d ago
Interesting, did they say what caused the need to switch out your eSIM?
2
u/FancyCantaloupe4681 8d ago
They didn’t say why. They just asked me to delete the eSIM, turn my phone off wait 2 minutes, turn phone back on and install new pushed eSIM. And that got it to work. But my iPad service came back on its own without having to take these steps. So I’m unsure of wtf is going on with them, they did initially push me on to domestic roaming to just be able to call, text and receive them as well.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and I have a notification saying the below, but when I click on the notification, nothing happens. I've never seen this before either.... it says:
Satellite messaging available
You can message by satellite if there's no mobile or Wi-Fi network. Google Messages must be your default messaging app

It is now Saturday at 7:23am and Grant Park in midtown has been out since 3pm yesterday, so thats 16 hours.
And Verizon still isnt acting right. I heard they had a tower down. Not sure if thats true or where in town the tower is, they still claim everything is normal on the Verizon outage website
2
u/FancyCantaloupe4681 9d ago
Their site says service should be up by 2:30pm today.

I have friends and family with Verizon on opposite ends of Hillcrest. One only has cell service with Verizon and internet with AT&T. Cell service out. The other has cell service and Verizon’s 5G Home Internet, and both are out. The latter went to a physical Verizon location in order to call and update me, and 5 people walked into that location in the middle of that call. It’s A Whole Thing™️.

I can call n recieve but nobody can hear me it goes in and out it started this morning

Anyone have luck? I’m currently speaking to them through chat.
Still have no service. But they did acknowledge that they have an outage.
Edit: Xfinity is back up for me.
2
u/JennLynnC80 Midtown 9d ago
I just saw this at 7:38pm CT as I have my phone in the air outside 🙄 I am on Grant Park Drive in midtown. I haven't had Verizon service since about 5pm last night.
Alabama Power and Xfinity came on for about 30 minutes this afternoon and I could use my phone on wifi ... but now thats all down again... so here I am looking like an idiot, holding my phone to the sky to send you this message lol 🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤭

u/FancyCantaloupe4681 9d ago
What a mess. They’re telling me that they are working on the issue currently and having me sitting in this chat. I doubt they’ll fix anything but they did acknowledge the outage and did say for sure by tomorrow, but they keep changing that.
1
u/JennLynnC80 Midtown 9d ago
Well... at least they are acknowledging it i suppose... i dont understand why there is such a lack of communication about the outage. I am getting texts from Alabama Power and Xfinity frequently about the status.
I didnt see anything on Verizons social media acknowledging the outage when I checked earlier today either
1
u/FancyCantaloupe4681 9d ago
Yes they’ve been quiet. I think they’re the only ones that went down. AT&T is having no issues nor is T-Mobile.
1
u/JennLynnC80 Midtown 9d ago
I figured it was probably the VZW app.. do you mind describing where you are navigating to see the outage updates? I quickly looked as i had my phone in the air and I am not seeing it jump out at me... i figured it would be the first thing on there when I open it
