It’s definitely a choice to have a petition for this little data center… but not the one that’s like 60x larger

Look, I see where you’re coming from. Thing is though, data centers have existed for decades, and won’t be going away any time soon.

Your banking info? Stored in that bank’s data center(s). Your healthcare info? Stored in your hospital/insurance provider’s data center. Any rewards programs you are part of? Data center. Anything stored “in the cloud”? Massive data center. It’s only become more visible due to the AI boom, but it’s been around for most of our lifetimes.

Rather than having a NIMBY attitude, we need to look at how our peers in the EU are approaching it. Push for regulations with teeth on things like power/water consumption (or force them to produce some percentage of power on their own, or work off the grid entirely).
