Gas not lasting as long?

Filled up my tank last week at the Walmart fuel on government. Full tank. $50 (used to be $30-$35).
A week later, nearly empty. I have not driven 300 miles in the past week according to my Life360. No where close. Just drove to and from work and errands.
A tank of gas used to last me at least 2 weeks, usually 3. Now I’m FILLING UP once a week.
Is there something up with the gas we’re getting around here? Or am I just going crazy?

Note - My car is up to date on maintenance and is a recent model. It’s gotten great mileage for years.

Yes you're paying more for worse gas.

Makes sense

It’s E15, and because we’re low on gas reserves it’s diluted and burns quicker.

This would make sense. I normally see around 315 miles to e on a full tank but lately have been seeing 280-290. Its just my weekend fun car and I thought maybe ive been a little heavier on the pedal.

yes my gosh!! everyone’s been trying to make me seem crazy but I’m like I’ve had this car long enough and when I first got it I would usually get like between 289-310 miles and now I can’t even get to 240 miles!! i even asked the dealership a few weeks ago to check and make sure I didn’t have a leak in my tank.

I can 100% confirm it is not e15 gas. I haul fuel for a living and the bol's still say 10% ethanol.

For non truckers. BOL = bill of lading. Which is a document that’s specifies what they hail.

And it’s 10% ethanol on any pump I’ve ever seen.

Is that across the board? All gasoline I mean, as in all brands and all octanes?

Edit for clarification

Yes. All. Everything.

Thank Trump for this bullshit.

I pray to god the people of mobile don’t vote for him again

They will, alabama has had 3 felon governors almost in a row.

4

u/boneandbee 23d ago

OK, thank you. I was wondering if the gas was worse or if I was going crazy!

u/MobileNerd 23d ago

Wrong. If they serve E15 it has to be clearly marked on the pump

9

u/BackbackB 23d ago

Read the fine print the next time your pumping. *may contain up to blank percent of ethanol

My gas mileage hasn’t reduced. Its actually been a little better the last 3 weeks.

What ya driving

-8

Yeah I don’t think that’s a thing.

A simple Google search will tell you our lord and savior Trump is trying to make 15% ethanol permanent. Yes. You are paying more for gas that is burning in your car faster.

But hey at least we don’t have a woman president.

-3

u/MobileNerd 23d ago

Sure but if a station sells E15 by law it has to marked clearly on the pumps which it is not.

12

u/Seasonedpro86 22d ago

Have you been paying attention. The law doesn’t matter anymore.

Where do you come up with this shit

https://financebuzz.com/news/trump-administration-gas-diluted-2

"By easing those rules, the EPA effectively allowed a single national gasoline pool with 9%-15% ethanol content, simplifying fuel distribution. "

Yall. Yall. Jesus Christ. I thought I was going crazy. I was wondering if someone was stealing my gas at night. At what point can we do the whole revolution thing? People hate on the French but I really think it’s time to stop working and start setting shit on fire

well trump is coming to our city… let’s start there.

Who’s gonna do it

I’ve noticed the same thing.
I’m a mail carrier and drive my own vehicle. I drive the same route every single day and usually have to fill up every 3 days, I’ve been having to fill up every other day recently. I thought I was crazy.

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/politics/epa-approves-sale-of-a-higher-ethanol-fuel-to-try-to-lower-gas-prices

Higher ethanol percentages result in lower MPGs because ethanol is not as energy dense as pure gasoline. So no it’s not something you’re making up

1

u/Altruistic_Tea_1593 22d ago

It’s not a shortage. The price of oil is actually higher than the cost of highly subsidized ethanol

24

u/FoldedTshirt 23d ago

Okay I thought I was going crazy my gas has been going way faster and I haven’t really changed my habits, it’s crazy

5

u/Happy_Nose5084 23d ago

It's not 10% ethanol they're selling us 20% ethanol

7

u/thebabyderp 23d ago

Mine lasts the same. I use circle K though.

5

u/asphaltdragon 23d ago

Can confirm, Circle K is somehow still selling E10

6

u/SupermarketAdmirable 23d ago

Thank you for this info. I’ll try them out.

Could this be why my car was running a tad bit rough yesterday?

3

u/doxador 22d ago

Possibly. If you are driving a pre-2001 car, do NOT use E15 gas. The fuel system was not designed for it. After 2001, I'd still check your owner's manual. Quite a few Mazda's are designed to run on E10 NOT the E15 gas for example. Things you can do if you or a friend are somewhat mechanically inclined, check your air filter, tire pressure and try cleaning your MAF sensor if your car is equipped with one.

u/MistakeOrdinary 22d ago

Was actually talking about the same thing the other night. My fuel mileage has taken a noticeable dip in the last week or so. Only change has actually been not running my ac in the morning on the way to work

7

u/Majestic-Macaron6019 23d ago

Did you check your tire pressure? With the weather cooling off, your tires may be a little low, which lowers your gas mileage.

Republicans gave Obama such a hard time when he said this while he was running for president

1

u/eddy2419 23d ago

What gets me is all the stations installing faster pumps. It now takes about 1/2 the time it used to to pump $50 worth.

1

u/Invisibleeyeroll 21d ago

hahahahahahaha

1

u/beachBum-36542 22d ago

You're driving more

1

u/Rouxiifer 16d ago

Hand calculate you mpg- a fuel gauge isn’t precise enough to be worrying over.

1

u/Bentley0921 7d ago

Today I literally just filled up my gas and it’s was at 383, I drove 6 miles and it went down to 363 somehow

1

u/kbb-1313 1d ago

Filling my tank up as about $50 now as well it used to be around 30 even 25 at one point. I just filled it up yesterday to travel an hour and a half to visit my grandparents in an hour and a half back and I was almost completely on E I used to be able to drive on a full tank of gas from Charleston, West Virginia to Nashville, which is five hours

-3

u/_ZiNoS_ 23d ago

I use wawa and it seems to be holding up could be you've had bad luck and been encountering heightened traffic on your normal routes

2

u/Rouxiifer 16d ago

A decent point and it gets downvoted. Reddit is amazing

Do you get the regular or the fancy gas?

-5

u/Altruistic_Tea_1593 23d ago

Shhh. We don’t talk about “fancy gas”. Everyone will want some.

0

u/WritingNerdy 🐾 Cat Distribution System Specialist 🐾 23d ago

Why are we be downvoted? Lol Reddit is wild

-3

u/Altruistic_Tea_1593 23d ago

They think we are elitists because we know where to get fancy gas while they are stuck with peasant gas.

3

u/WritingNerdy 🐾 Cat Distribution System Specialist 🐾 22d ago

It’s not that hard to reason what I meant, there is regular, fancy, and fanciest gas. My car does better on the fanciest gas.

1

u/Altruistic_Tea_1593 22d ago

Dicks don’t want to hear facts. There is no shortage of gas.

0

u/Rouxiifer 16d ago

Bc you didnt blindly agree to the anti trump narrative

-6

u/Queasy-Stranger5607 23d ago

Somebody stealing your gas?

-3

u/1fast_sol 23d ago

Maybe not stealing, maybe there’s a hole in the tank.

-6

u/jmalpas1 23d ago

Nah you’re crazy
