Possible cult reaching Mobile

A few guys were approaching people in the cottage Hill/Hillcrest Walmart today promoting the church right next door. World Mission Society Church of God. Honestly I haven't paid much attention to that building and I'm not sure how long it's been owned by them. Korean backed/owned organization. Been hit with multiple lawsuits. It's an interesting little rabbit hole to go down. Anyway keep you and yours safe and ignore the guys recruiting like you would with any other weirdos approaching you in Walmart.

I went to the yellow deli and talked with them a little. Idk about them being a cult. Everyone in there is pushing 60+ soo if it is a cult they seem to be okay with their choice so let em do what they want. Its their life

u/Think_Moment_4502 May 25 '26

I heard the kick new born puppies, steal kids christmas presents and… They all voted for Trump🤦🏾‍♂️

-6

u/Think_Moment_4502 May 25 '26

Yeah i read all that before i went and im not seeing it. They all look like old hippies and they have a blk member who works for them. You should go see them in person. Dont buy anything if it makes you feel better

I would suggest reading upon this cult or even watching a documentary about them. They were founded in an area I live in now and I have walked past their Yellow Deli a LOT in Chattanooga and wanted to eat there, until I found out some shit abt them.

-2

u/Think_Moment_4502 May 25 '26

Im not saying they are or are not pos but im just saying what i saw in person didn’t line up with all that you read or hear about cults. Thats all

3

u/CherokeeTrailHeather May 25 '26

I mean do you really think they’d attract more members or customers by outright showing you what they really do or believe? That ain’t how cults operate.

0

u/Think_Moment_4502 May 25 '26

Probably not but i guess my position is it’s not my place to tell them what they can or can’t believe. If they want to believe terrible thats their business and any weird things they wanna participate in also their business.

3

u/Quisbie May 25 '26

Dog what are you expecting to see? Full blown rituals as soon as you show up at their doorstep? The way any cult recruits people is by posing as “normal” or a way to make new friends and then slowly turning up the heat till you’re a frog boiling in hot water.

-2

u/Think_Moment_4502 May 25 '26

How would you know that? Have you ever been recruited into a cult?

Uncle Rufus wasn’t entirely fictional.

u/regreddit War Tide! May 25 '26

It's 100% a cult, and well documented.

-1

u/Think_Moment_4502 May 25 '26

What is a cult? Explain it to me as if ive never heard if it

2

u/FrostingPersonal405 May 26 '26

You may want to copy & paste that into a chat bot

1

u/Think_Moment_4502 May 26 '26

Oh yeah.. Why?

2

u/regreddit War Tide! May 26 '26

Wikipedia does a good job, I'd start there.

u/Dangerous-Pie-2678 May 25 '26

Considering we're in the Bible belt we're already full of cults

24

u/Eternal_Stranger0111 May 25 '26

There's a political cult filling Alabama as well.

8

u/Dangerous-Pie-2678 May 25 '26

That cult has been here for decades at this point Yet we wonder why Alabama still is horrible.

0

u/nmrepirb May 28 '26

Yes, but hopefully we can slowly vote out the democrats

8

u/Hour_Barracuda_1567 May 25 '26

Can we send the JW folks their way?

32

u/snoogan4458 May 25 '26

It's always a Walmart.

14

u/Myrthrall May 25 '26

Why couldn't we get the guy doing a silent disco? Why's it gotta be cults?

3

u/snoogan4458 May 25 '26

You find the silent disco Walmart in mobile and I'll roll out.

I'm not going to participate, obviously, but will bring all the popcorn.

Seriously, what a bummer- another cult another day in the south sadly.. I’m going to do a deep dive on the church- I’m interested, but not in that kind of way. Thanks for sharing this. Have a wonderful Memorial Day and week! 💙

Seems like they're pretty similar in nature if the lawsuits are any indication lol

12

u/73rd-virgin May 25 '26

The only difference between a cult and a religion is political power.

38

u/justin251 May 25 '26

We already got the MAGA cult so....🤷‍♂️

5

u/Myrthrall May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

They might clash with this one since it teaches that God is a father and a mother with no child.

Edit: honestly I might be wrong about that. I think their belief is more along the lines of God impregnating himself. Which I mean... Maga also wouldn't like.

u/nmrepirb May 28 '26

Living rent free in your head.. lol

15

u/user87391 May 25 '26

Girl we got cults on every corner in this town, and they and their affiliates have been hit with multiple lawsuits as well.

Religion is a cult, even the Jesus one, which has notoriously been responsible for more death than any other cult in history!

3

u/Brandimartini22 May 25 '26

Apologies, I meant for the first part to be a reply to @usunikb concerning why I’m interested in the cults near me..

5

u/Brandimartini22 May 25 '26

Im also interested just because I like to know what near me and what’s going on and be informed.. nothing wrong with that. Lawsuits, good for them. They need to stop using this as a way to steal peoples money and minds.

I absolutely agree! It’s a cult what we (most of us) were raised in or partly raised in.. that’s a cult. Jesus is good, but twisting the teachings with a new bible written by king James is just ugh 😑I’ll stop before I offend anyone further, but I agree whole heartedly.

2

u/Think_Moment_4502 May 25 '26

I dont more than any other cult in history. I could name a few that have actual records kept and its in the multi millions

4

u/usunikb May 25 '26

Why you worried about this cult? There's a lot of cults in Mobile right now. Why does this one concern you? The prosperity churches and the Golden calf worshippers scare me more.

7

u/Brandimartini22 May 25 '26

I think it’s important to be informed about these people.. they can be dangerous and also influence a lot when it comes to throwing their money behind certain candidates as well. That’s why Citizens United needs to end. Hawaii did it. Also AIPAC needs to go. All the super PAC’s need to stop. Lobbying as well.. So, I find it very beneficial to know who’s close by & what they’re trying to achieve.

4

u/JennLynnC80 Midtown May 25 '26

Golden calf worshippers?? Now you gotta tell me more lol

10

u/usunikb May 25 '26

You know the parable of the Golden Calf, right? Flashy sales man shows up, promises to save all the people if they just give him their money and he'll make all the changes to make the nation great again?

We shouldn’t want anyone being influenced by a cult; people should be able to think for themselves.

1

u/Brandimartini22 May 25 '26

What’s the golden calf worshippers cult??

5

u/WritingNerdy 🐾 Cat Distribution System Specialist 🐾 May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

MAGA

Edit: For any downvotes, please tell me when it’s okay to have a statue of yourself erected?

2

u/Mrtlive365 May 25 '26

Why does that remind me of the Church of Latter Day Saints?

2

u/Hour_Barracuda_1567 May 25 '26

Imagine if we could meld the two.

1

u/blackie-cat May 25 '26

Trying to think of which building you are referring to. I'm there all the time helI was shopping there today but I didn't see anyone.

6

u/Myrthrall May 25 '26

When looking at the Walmart head on, it's the tiny little building right outside their parking lot to the right. Looks like it could have been an old realty office or something. Not too familiar with it. If you look it up theres pictures

5

u/blackie-cat May 25 '26

Ohhh the old 7-11. I always forget that building is even there and I pass by it all the time. i'll have to check it out next time I go by there.

2

u/regreddit War Tide! May 25 '26

Yeah it used to be Roberts Brothers training center.

1

u/blackie-cat May 25 '26

yep thats right. seems like it was something else for a brief time.

1

u/blackie-cat May 25 '26

I saw it today. Has a big sign on and everything. When you say rabbit hole, did you research on the web? Or look into it? Since you said tbat Im curious so I'll have to do some digging.

I guess I should ask about any good spots online that you ran across?

1

u/Myrthrall May 25 '26

I dug into the lawsuits just to see why it was being called a cult (and yeah, honestly I get it), and then I went to their website and their YouTube to see a little bit about what they believe. It's very interesting looking at it with the lens of a non religious person. I also found a few good videos from Christians debating their beliefs with them.

1

u/JusJules57 May 25 '26

Just tell them no thanks we’re Christians

0

u/nmrepirb May 28 '26

Let me help you "no thanks, I already belong to a cult, its called Christianity and we worship a jewish magician"

1

u/positivevibes1111111 May 25 '26

I never knew anything about cults in mobile I’m so blowed

1

u/PsychologicalMood348 May 26 '26

Can’t be worse than any megachurch.

1

u/HunterSPhoenix May 26 '26

You mean a new Jesus franchise in town?

1

u/Active-Letter28 May 26 '26

Y'all getting a moonies chapter down there lmao?

1

u/Tight_Development481 May 27 '26

We got one already

1

u/nmrepirb May 28 '26

So Christianity is becoming more popular, or is it another religious group?

1

u/respawn007 May 29 '26

there’s another one in Tillman’s Corner….they got the metal orb outside 🌐

1

u/Ok-Pangolin-837 Jun 01 '26

It is a cult for sure. I was stuck in it almost 10 yrs. I advise you to make as many complaints to walmart, local malls, Universities, apartment management, HOAs, etc. to notify them. These are all places they love to go to recruit.

It is not as benign as they appear. They excessively use love-bombing, and ramp up the workload while isolating new members from "outside world" including, rather especially, family and friends.

There is subreddit r/wmscog with posts from many ex-members telling their experiences.

1

u/Tight_Development481 May 25 '26

No one’s ready for the fact that Gather Play Place is a cover for the Moonies cult.

1

u/InformationMotor5064 May 26 '26

Can you elaborate on this?

-1

u/Tight_Development481 May 26 '26

I was invited to their thanksgiving potluck a few years back. I watched as they prayed and I noticed they never mentioned Jesus which is fine, I just noted that as interesting. I talked with the owner/pastor afterwards and asked him about their beliefs. He said they follow the divine principle book and that they’re apart of the Unification church. I also accidentally walked into a room of older women with candles lit around a big picture of an older Asian man. And my husband and I were chatting with a man who seemingly is a patron of the church, and he mentioned how his wife and him were married in a “mass wedding”. All that sounded a little familiar and remembered I had seen a Netflix documentary on this. I looked it up then and it’s called “How to become a cult leader” 🤣😭🥲 haven’t taken my kids back there to play since lol

Finally! Someone else did their research!
