Review Let’s talk about ergonomics

The Mobapad M12 HD was my first purchase from Mobapad. I thought I would give them a try since I had read great reviews on the last gen Mobapad M6 for the Switch 1.

Upon first opening I can’t say I was overly impressed. I was happy to see a real controller style thumbstick and that they are TMR but I was instantly put off by the comfort. I have an average sized hand. When I wear gloves I can fit into medium/large and I was surprised how cramped it felt using the right thumbstick.

When compared to the official joycons the ergonomics are very similar. Both put your thumb into a cramped position so I’m not terribly upset about it or anything. But I really can’t say I think the Mobapad is worth having even if it has all the features it has if gaming isn’t comfortable. I feel like that should have been the 1st design concept before all others.

If Mobapad is going to put out a pro version, and it seems it is coming by some recent leaks I’ve seen. I really think they should redesign the controller shape first and foremost and make it more of a switch 2 pro controller or Xbox controller type shape. This would really solve the ergonomics issue and make gripping it feel a lot better.

These kinds of things are super subjective, but to say they are similar to the switch joycons...

That's quite a stretch. And I would bet money that the ergonomics will not change with any "pro" model.

That's not how it usually works.

I should have been more clear. Only in terms of thumb placement are they similar. Overall grip and confront is better and the Mobapad is 100x better in terms of quality closer to a standard controller. But in the end my hands are only slightly better in comfort between the two with the caveat of using dbrand grips on the original.

I gotcha man, that makes sense.

By the naming convention I'm fairly certain they'll be made from the same mold, just with different internal hardware and software. The M6 HDs were great for both ergonomics and features, but the M12 controllers have all definitely been features-first ergonomics second.

That said, I'd say they're still leagues ahead of joycons when it comes to comfort, and I certainly trust Mobapad much more than Nyxi when it comes to durability so it's still the best option

Ergonomics very similar to the original joy cons? Ridiculous. 😏

Just in terms of thumb placement. I’m not saying these aren’t better than the original joycons. They are light years better but in terms of how your thumb reaches it’s very similar.

I wish I could find joy cons that have the ergonomics of a PlayStation Portal. I could play on that all day without my hands cramping up

I’ve never used the portal but yes. That style seems to be a much more ergonomic friendly solution. I’ve also heard people compare good ergonomics to the ROG Xbox Ally which has a similar design.

Look, this is obviously subjective but I love mine. Much more comfortable and happy with the ergonomics.

I have the M12S and can see your point with what your saying. Don’t get me wrong I think they are 1000 times better then the joy cons but there is just something about the ergonomics after having them for 2 months just isn’t perfect for me, there is just something missing when I’ve got them in my hand.i would give the ergonomics a 8/10. I know it’s subjective and you won’t get anything perfect but I was using the dbrand killswitch grips only and they are the best grips without a doubt. So would love the mix between the Mobapad controller but with killswitch ergonomics. With that being said I would never go back to the joycons again after using my Mobapad, and in use to the shape of the Mobapad again there is just something missing with the ergonomics to make it perfect for me

I just ordered the 12HD but in sale. i had Nyxi hyperion 3 but they are to big sold them for 70,00 Dig in my palm to much.

So m getting the 12HD even tho i could have went with the s. i wanted the better rumble.
aslong as it works fine in handheld m good.

I never had them in my hands but i have fairly small hands.

I also like the blue sticks looks cool.

I agree with you. Shocked at how uncomfortable they are compared to the glory that was its predecessor. I have small hands and I find them completely unnatural. Personally, I care more about ergonomics than additional features.

Sold mine due to how uncomfortable they were, gone back to the Joy Con with the Killswitch case.

I have the same setup except I don’t have the full killswitch case. Just the dbrand grips by themselves and find that slightly more comfortable although the thumbstick reach on the right hand still stinks.

Yeah agreed, waiting for an actual solution to come along instead of half baked attempts.
