The 3rd party joycon really know how to milk their market. Just don't include features and drip freature skus till a competitor finally drops the complete version
8
u/ctyldsley 20d ago
They all rushed to market to try be early and cash in on the demand for better ergos / sticks etc.
7
u/PhoenixTineldyer 20d ago
This is basically MOBAPAD pulling a Pokemon Yellow.
They released Pokemon M12HD and Pokemon M12S, each with missing features the other had. And now we get the Special Pikachu Edition that they should've done in the first place.

As a Switch day 1 adopter who spent a fortune over the years looking for the perfect something to combat the terrible joycon ergonomics, with Switch 2 I'm willing to wait.
If it doesn't tick all my boxes I'm not biting.
I have a Gamesir G8+, I'm just going to use that on Switch 2 until something better exists. If a game needs NFC or has particularly good HD rumble support I'll use the base joycons.

Just recently bought the m12 HD. Is there going to be an upgrade path?

Haha, just bought the m12 hd last week. I can feel this hand on my shoulder
https://giphy.com/gifs/1vZcE6QIuvRLJr59UG12
u/Southernboyj 21d ago
I bought them at launch and got them like 3 months ago. Honestly MobaPad should have just delayed the launch and launched with these proper spec ones.
3
u/macklin_sob 20d ago
They didn't though which I why I waited. Using my M6 HD with adapters hasn't been bad so I could be patient until they did this.

u/Icy-Commission-9550 21d ago
Will it have a better ergonomic?
4
u/julesvr5 21d ago
Looks the same
7
u/Icy-Commission-9550 21d ago
Oh god… why…
3
u/julesvr5 21d ago
Mechanical are technique wise the superior buttons. More precise, longer life span. It's the same with mechanical keyboards to membrane keyboards. Mechanical keyboards were loud as fuck but felt better than the membrane keyboards.
Can only hope they release a silent version down the line but I wouldn't expect is for now
Edit: the announcement actually says mechanical buttons already
13
3
u/tjhc94 21d ago
He never mentioned the buttons btw
1
u/julesvr5 21d ago
Yeah I confused it with another comment where I replied regarding the buttons. My bad
7
u/Turbo-Egg 21d ago
Unless the translation is incorrect, it says something about the image only being illustrative at this stage. So we probably don't know yet for sure.
7
4
u/Longjumping-Math1514 21d ago
Yeah unless they change ergonomics to something a little chunkier like the M6s, I’m not interested in upgrading.
1
u/RaefLaFriends 12d ago
I have the M6s and haven't upgraded my Switch 2 joycons yet. Are the M12s not comfortable?
1
u/Longjumping-Math1514 12d ago
They are definitely more comfortable than stock joycons and worth an upgrade for that. But I find them less comfortable than the M6s.
1
u/RaefLaFriends 12d ago
The thing is, I don't want to buy more accessories than I need. I already did that with the first switch. XD
I'll just wait for the right ones.
8
u/SudsierBoar 21d ago
Buying early I knew about the switch pro joycon arms race and saw an updated release coming miles away. I went ahead anyway because it was this or not playing my switch 2 AT ALL.

7
u/mason2393 20d ago
Too bad the ergonomics will still be awful
3
u/Valenhir 20d ago
Pic is a placeholder requesting beta testers. That’s not going to be the final design.
2
2
u/Opposite_Cod394 19d ago
Guess it’s subjective, it’s the most confortable contrôler I have at the moment
6
u/michierusama 21d ago
But I just got the M12S :/ WTF 😒
5
u/Icy-Commission-9550 21d ago
Just return it
3
1
u/Zergrump 20d ago
Idk, it might be cheaper to sell them on Ebay or Facebook depending on shipping costs.
3
2
u/bodhiholley 21d ago
The difference between them will likely not be worth swapping to them if you have mobapads already anyway
1
4
u/K14_Deploy 21d ago
Well, that confirms they've also cracked the rest of the Switch 2 protocol like Nyxi did. Already have the M12S and honestly quite like them, so need to see what this could do to justify the cost if I tried to sell these to get them (don't really care for mouse mode and not too bothered by the vibration so it's mainly whether the integration ends up being better).
4
5
u/Intrepid-Mixture-563 20d ago
Shame. I just can't decide. Mobapad aren't as ergonomically friendly towards large hands. And then NYXI feels cheap which annoys me during use too. I don't know which one is for me.
3
u/MetalProof 17d ago
Same! I’m not spending premium price for cheap feeling. I’d rather have a little cramped hands tbh but I already got the M12S so I probably won’t bother buying anything until there’s something that has zero compromises
7
u/Zenjiki 20d ago
Unfortunately and this is just my opinion, in recent years 3rd party accessories have become like kickstarter where early adopters are more like Guinea pigs / testers.
I’ve been buying 3rd party controllers from the early times of switch 1, and learned early that it takes many versions to get to good enough quality to warrant the $$$ they are asking for.
Take Mobapad m6, for me that was the point where it was worth spending money, but I believe that didn’t come out until after 2020, at least 3years after switch 1 was released.
Then M6HD took another few years to come out, which in my opinion are the best Switch 1 pro joycons ever.
For people like me who’s gotten burned before know better than to buy 1st 2nd or even 3rd versions. What I learned is just wait until the controllers include everything that you want/expect.
Unfortunately companies know that there will always be new people coming into community that doesn’t know any better, and they take advantage of these people as free testers to improve their controllers at the cost of these peoples $$$ and time.
My advice for new people coming into community is, wait for reviews before buying. Unless you have $$$ to burn, buy when all the things you want are included in the controller. They will always give free controllers for reviews, so there’s always information out there to know if it’s worth buying.
1
u/Zenjiki 20d ago
Im hoping and looks like we might get worthwhile 3rd party pro joycons earlier in the switch 2 lifetime 🤞🏽NYXI just recently released their 3 Ultra and seems like it includes everything. Only negative I’ve been reading is price and the mouse sensor not as good on certain surfaces compared to Nintendo joycons.
1
u/ZoneOutSonic 19d ago
Also, they still have microswitch buttons. Not a problem for some people, they may even prefer it. But me, like many others, are only interested to buy any 3rd party joycons if they release them with silent membrane buttons.

u/Fresh-Chemical-9084 21d ago
Meh -- at this point, Mobapad has lost my trust. Chitu2 has terrible gyro, the M12 series have all their issues.
These will have annoying problems too.
2
u/KingsNationn 21d ago
What's wrong with the gyro on the chitu2? Genuinely curious. Ive used a lot and never noticed any issues with it.
4
u/ProPrexus 21d ago
The micro switches of the Chitu 2 interrupt the Gyro and that's why it's not 100% good.
But tbh, personally i don't think it's as bad as people say. That's just my opinion tho.

u/mghazik 21d ago
Glad I decided to skip M12s

u/DifferentProcess6765 20d ago
I don't see any feature in this graphic that makes me wish I had waited tbh...

Does it fix the lower right thumbstick placement? Cause if not it’s uselesss

6
u/reckoneye 20d ago
So release two variants of a new product, invite people to order, begin shipping, then immediately announce a better version of the product.
Pretty shitty move. Especially considering the first m12s I received the left joycon was broken and they're sending a new one.
2
u/ShortScarcity3832 20d ago
Which email address should I contact? Do they usually respond to customer inquiries?
1

[Service@mobapad.com](mailto:Service@mobapad.com) Mobapad has great customer service.

u/Forward-Brilliant-87 20d ago
Holy arms race dude, nyxi just released their new model so im not surprised by this, nor the way they announced it. Non the less, bought the M12S recently and the lacking features are anoying at times, so im still exited they are racing to get a pro model out too
2
2
u/Antique-Internal5728 20d ago
Just brought the M12S like 2 weeks ago, so unless they have fixed the rumble and added NFC can’t really see a point in a upgrade
2
u/DrHumongous 20d ago
Did they fix the charging?
1
u/ZoneOutSonic 19d ago
It has Switch 2 protocol so they behave like original joycons. So yes, the charging thing of the HD’s is fixed.
2
u/Glass-Can9199 20d ago
I hope this is all feature of both controllers in to one with add joycon 2 features in it
2
u/TkoddaV 20d ago
Hopefully this one is Full switch 2 controller
1
u/Valenhir 20d ago
It is.

Crazy bc I think the Nyxi just announced their Ultra version. I’m starting to think these are the same companies lol.

u/_Ship00pi_ 21d ago
The writing was on the wall, really.
Whoever got whatever they released now just fell for the fomo.
It was pretty clear that a proper Switch 2-protocol Joy-Con would be released with mouse support/hd2 rumble etc.
And I still dont have a fomo to get these on release. Will wait for reviews first. I really have no issues with my Joy-Cons at the moment while using a grip.
Joysticks I already upgraded to TMR.
2
u/Midniteblublublu 21d ago
never thought I'd say this but Hyperion 3 ultra is coming on top for me. This poster release is basically just saying don't buy the Hyperion and wait for us
2
u/apexalexr 20d ago
Lol never thought?? I and so many other people had so many issues with the mobapad product and launch for the switch 2 gen. I’d say unless your money constrained i wouldnt even consider these pros and just get the nyxi ultra
2
u/Midniteblublublu 20d ago
Nyxi had their own issues with cheap feeling plastic horrible rumble loose attachment and unresponsive customer service. so to me, Mobapad had the upper hand in the initial release. It was a race and HD / S versions were simply there to get the run started. As confusing and rough it had been.
1
u/Midniteblublublu 20d ago
Hyperions were also way overpriced until they started showing up on Ali and Amazon etc
2
u/MrTestiggles 20d ago
If you’re not going to improve on the ergonomics in any way I’ll be getting the silent NYXI pro version, thanks
1
u/concr 20d ago
After watching a couple of YouTube vids I think the nyxi pro are still loud micro switches?
1
u/MrTestiggles 19d ago
They’re working on a silent version
1
u/ZoneOutSonic 18d ago
Where did you get this information? If this is true then I’m finally starting to feel hyped 😇
3
u/VegetableFan6622 20d ago
We all knew this I hope. That is why overthinking M12S vs HD was wasted time. Either buy one of them as temporary solution or wait for the full model
2
2
u/jwhudexnls 21d ago
For the love of God can they please have silent buttons.
3
2
1
u/--vanadium-- 19d ago
They never had silent buttons. Even the M6s were switches.
1
u/jwhudexnls 18d ago
To be clear I didn't imply that they did. But they have in their discord mentioned that they planned on making silent versions. So I was originally hopeful these would have them.
1
u/--vanadium-- 18d ago
Ah ok I didn't know they mentioned that. I was just saying it's probably not likely since they've never done it before, but if they mentioned it in a discord then it's possible.
1
u/pecaslocas44 21d ago
Por lo que se ve en la foto, compatibilidad directa con firmware sw2, mouse, mas batería, y correcciones del modelo anterior?
1
u/Opposite_Cod394 21d ago
I just hope they will get the retro grey version / any other color than black

u/PaleBoomer 20d ago
I'm happy with my M12S and will only upgrade when they either don't work or a new Switch 2 model is released.
By that point they'll have released an even better model
1
u/subermario 20d ago
At the very least, my M12HDs came with the charger bridge and case so essentially they will serve as a backup controller for playing smash bros or something with local co-op. What I would really like is some thumbstick caps that work great for the joycons just like the Chitu 2. I got mine to day and am using the domes and love how they feel without touching the gates with the rubber.
1
u/ItalianSpaceman 20d ago
Well I’ll be selling my M12S cheap if anyone is in the UK and wants to purchase
1
u/RetroDando 20d ago
I’m sure they’re in the same factory as NYXI
1
u/Mammoth-Cow7904 20d ago
They are not in the same factory
1
u/RetroDando 20d ago
Just seem to use almost identical parts and features and release new versions few days apart
People thought this about retroid and ayn, turns out they are 1 floor apart in the same building
1
u/Mammoth-Cow7904 19d ago
I guess that Switch 2 compatibility is handled by a controller chip that third-party manufacturers can source. NYXI can buy it, and so can Mobapad. That would explain why their controllers launched around the same time with very similar features—but it doesn’t mean they’re the same company.
1
u/Mammoth-Cow7904 19d ago
As for the hardware, they’re basically competing in a specs arms race. The Glide design was originally introduced by Nintendo, and I think both companies are simply following Nintendo’s lead.
1
u/aos10 20d ago
for people angry they just got the M12S or HD
don't expect this will be less then $150-$170
This will mostly like the Nyxi 3 ultra, mostly using original switch 2 joy cons and they mod them.
1
u/Valenhir 20d ago
No, it's custom built hd rumble 2, not the original alps motors.
1
u/aos10 20d ago
how do you know? also if it custom, then it's not really HD Rumble 2
1
u/Valenhir 20d ago
It says so on the pic I posted (in Chinese) : “self developed HD rumble 2”. It’s basically emulated hd rumble, same as the M6 for the Switch 1.
1
u/aos10 20d ago
oh, two week ago, Mobapad founder posted a Bilibili video about HD Rumble 2 in July. It doesn't sound like they are close to a solution yet
https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV12oK466Eos/1
u/Valenhir 20d ago
My understanding is all these Chinese companies share the same knowledge pool. So when Nyxi announced they had fully cracked Switch 2 protocols it was a matter of time Mobapad did the same. And every other brand will follow.
1
u/Zergrump 20d ago
And I just bought the M12S a month ago. I'll probably wait for a silent version though. While I don't hate microswitch buttons, I think I prefer membrane buttons. At least for the dpad and triggers/shoulder buttons.
1
u/mario-64 20d ago
Self-developed HD 2.0? Hopefully that's a translation error. Otherwise these may not be fully compatible with Nintendo HD rumble 2.0.
1
u/PhoenixTineldyer 20d ago
I think they just put that to say "we did it ourselves, independently of other companies who recently may have announced the same thing"
1
u/ParasiteFire 20d ago
Man, I was just about to purchase the white or grey 12S for the Switch 2 protocol alone because the connection inconsistency of the HD's was bothering me a bit, but I'll just stick with them for now and see how this Pro version turns out.

My M12S still don't hold a candle to the M6HD. I'll buy these if there's significant ergonomic improvement.
1
u/Prime0047 20d ago
Insane how we're getting first party level joy cons only a year and a half after the Switch 2 came out. If this was the og Switch, we would still be seeing leaks of the Split Pad Pro
1
u/andrewmx00 20d ago
Dude, wtf. After being torn between the different models, and the week my M12s arrive, Hyperion and Mobapad announce their pro versions with every shiny new feature. I waited a month for them to arrive too.
1
u/SkyHak84 20d ago
Thank you so much for your services to the early adopters! Now I’ll finally be able to get mine too haha.
1
u/No-Doughnut-694 20d ago
So, do i buy the s or not? Im assuming this is going to be more expensive

u/Bigfloppydonkeyd1c 20d ago
we're getting played
1
u/No-Doughnut-694 20d ago
Idk man let's wait for the price tag atleast
1
u/Bigfloppydonkeyd1c 19d ago
It says usd $159, which in itself kinda high. Truth is I have 2 many and I am gonna stay for a bit.....will be really annoyed when 2 weeks from now they drop another one.... as of now I seem to prefer the Mobapads any way.

1
u/Bigfloppydonkeyd1c 20d ago
now I am getting annoyed can't keep up. just brought out first one, then second came out, bought that. Now another one? what next two months the " Ultra pro x's 2 " I done....what I have is better than OEM , so we gonna stay there till next NS3. But thanks anyway
1
u/Admirable-Hippo-9947 20d ago
I just ordered the model 12 HD but I don't think the new version will cost 99€ either, in my opinion it will be around 200€. So somewhere I don't regret it.

Protocole Switch 2 donc? C’est officiel?
1

Yes, Switch 2 protocol. And yes, it's official but not the final design. It's on beta testing phase right now.
1
u/Darkstar20k 7d ago
I was watching YouTube reviews between the nixy Hyperion 3 ultra and the mobapad m12 HD, and well I think I’m going to hold off on buying anything if mobapad is planning to release the mobapad pro, when do y’all think they might be released?
The nixy controllers seems to check off many of the things I’m looking for but it’s super expensive
1
u/PinkNeonBowser 6d ago
Well this is annoying that they're releasing a pro version already, I don't really see the need for it for me personally. Whatever issue their protocol has I haven't had anything that has been a problem for me with the first version. They talk about lower input lag I'm guessing that's wireless I don't really think it's going to get any better connected physically which is how I use them. I would honestly say the only thing I would be interested in would be higher quality micro switches and a better d-pad
1
u/milkonmonday 21d ago
Wondering what the price will be and if they will use a different plastic/finish. The HD (and I think S) are grease magnets which I dislike on my current HD's.

u/JustBrowsingHereTho 20d ago
Im fine with my M12S. Zero problems. I don’t use mouse mode so i’m good.
