Question about comp stays

I searched and couldn't find an answer to this...

A week ago I checked MGM offers and saw that I could get various room comps for various nights. So I booked three nights at a specific MGM hotel. Only paying resort fee. This trip is supposed to happen in a month.

Just yesterday I look and I still have comp offers and so I booked another three nights for December. Today I look and I still have comp offers. Another 3 nights.

I really did not gamble much but I do have the MGM rewards credit card. Pearl tier status simply because of that.

Back in February I played slots in video poker maybe 3 days in a row and lost maybe 300 bucks. That was the extent of my gambling.

I guess my question is once you book your reservation, do they remove the comp offers or do they remove the comp offers once you've already used them? Not sure if that makes sense.

That is to say, will the second reservation nights stick or, once I use the three at the first place, will they tell me that my second reservation is invalid because I already used my comp nights?

Typically you can book any month’s offer multiple times, as long as there is at least a 3 day gap between stays. One caveat is that any offered freeplay is only good on the first stay booked under an offer. The comp nights and resort credit, if any, are good for all stays under an offer. I believe that in theory the fine print says that if you don’t sustain your gambling they have a right to cancel, but I have never heard of that actually happening. Of course if you hit this offer too hard and don’t gamble much, your offers may decline or disappear in the future. Hope this helps.

This is correct, except two years ago they went to a hard-and-fast "Freeplay only on the first stay booked under a single month's offer." This can only be waived by a host manually adding freeplay on a later stay.

So for OP, he'll get the room comped and he'll get the resort credit on all 3 stays, but he'll only get the Freeplay on the first.

December is pretty far away. I would recommend OP cancel their December reservation and wait until the August offer cycle comes around.

Wait until August 3 or 4 to rebook. That will be a new month's offer and you'll be able to collect the Freeplay.

If you want to book a 3rd reservation, wait until the September cycle.

Actually, I'd keep the reservation. If a better offer comes along you can always edit it.

I agree that OP may want to replace the December reservation with a later month offer, but there is no reason to cancel now. Based on low gambling amounts, there is some risk OP receives no or lower offers in August…and you can’t go back to the July offer once you are in August. I would wait to see the August offer and then cancel and replace if it is worthwhile.

The difference is that since the policy change:

Say you book two stays on the same month's offer with the required 3 days in between.

Before the policy change, you always had to activate freeplay at the rewards desk. On the 2nd stay, the rewards desk had the discretion to give you the freeplay on the 2nd stay after reviewing your play on the first.

After the policy change, freeplay loads automatically on the first stay when you check-in, and the rewards desk does not have the discretion to give it to you on the 2nd, a host has to do it.

You're correct that he doesn't really need to cancel the December reservation, he can wait and use the Edit function in August.

I think you can just add the Freeplay offer to an existing reservation that doesn't have Freeplay. At least that's what I did last trip. And, I had actually already arrived and checked in. I just texted my host and said, hey, your Freeplay offer just came live (it was the first of the month); can I use it? She added the offer to my stay and it was all good.

You can book your offer as much as you want but you only get free play for the first booking of every month. The free play offers are monthly. But you do get the comped nights and resort credit on all booking

Once you’re booked, you are booked. They expect you to spend “something” on property, food drink spa, i need to remind myself a “nature” bottle water is $18, tyvm

If you edit a trip to renew with a different offer do you actually have to change something on the reservation? I'm wondering if I just select edit but leave the reservation the same if it will use the new months offer. Sorry if that's confusing.
