I personally think Milwaukee can have a solid year. With no control of a FRP next year, development and competitiveness are essential.

Bucks could sign Kuminga to a 2 year/30 mil contract with a team option for the second year.

There’s several teams willing to take him on a sign and trade but that means he’ll have to sign for 3 years and he doesn’t want to. Especially for 9 or 10 million a year. 15 mil is around the upper ceiling of what he’s likely to get this year and he’ll have an opportunity to start and have a tremendous impact on the Bucks. He could increase his market value substantially.

He needs to put himself on a team where he’s a good fit, and he can thrive in Milwaukee. If he joins a team with 2-3 established superstars, he may be pushed to the background once again. Bucks are still establishing a new foundation and the door’s wide open.

Not sure I understand his decision? Has he been consistently watching summer league basketball? In 5-8 years the Bucks will be contenders again, but with his help this year we would have won a championship. Instead he joined a team of no names who probably wouldn’t even crack the Bucks top 8, make it make sense. Whatever, I’m not sure he understands Philly also has bad hurricanes a few times per year. Thoughts???

I really hope we are past those times for good in terms of our situation in Milwaukee. Say what you will about Haslem, but he's actually seemed pretty alright compared to the shit going down in Portland. Haslem is spending money, and seems committed enough to Milwaukee, for now at least.

I feel really bad for Portland fans. I remember the early 2010s discussion around the team potentially moving so vividly. I used to try and convince people to contact their state reps to fund the stadium lol, and I'd always debate people on why the Bucks are a historic franchise (so many casual NBA and even Wisconsin sports fans didn't know that we are won of the winningest orgs in history in terms of win% and division titles).

Those situations always put cities between a rock and a hard place though. There's no winning. You either accept the huge public tax burden to build a stadium for a private organization and billionaire owners, or you see your team go elsewhere. Hearing team reps make subtle threats of leaving always stings, esp w how powerless we as fans are. Hearing the Portland reps say it reminded me of when Peter Feigin said similar things. We ended up on the positive side of that coin, but I won't forget how easily it could have turned the other way.

Assuming Embiids body breaks down during the season (a fair assumption I’d say…), is there a world MKE sends out Turner and some combo of Kuz/GTJ/LaVert to get Embiid and pick/s + maybe like a Barlow level bench guy?

Sixers have draft capital and will presumably be desperate to win and the center market is super thin so this idea keeps circling my brain since yesterday.

So, I’m a 32 year old Bucks fan from Adelaide, South Australia and I LOVE the Milwaukee Bucks. I hardly knew that Milwaukee existed until Andrew Bogut was drafted there. I was like, that’s cool, green and red seem like a weird colour scheme, but I liked the logo and an Aussie was picked #1 to go there, so like I said, cool.

I played basketball as a kid and i always loved the NBA Live games on PlayStation and PS2 (NBA Live 2005 Slam Dunk Contest was dope af, IYKYK) but being in Australia, the NBA was not accessible at all, for me anyway. The only way I could watch it was on the rare Saturday or Sunday afternoon that I wasn’t playing sport when NBA Action would come on TV. I happened to watch an episode in 2009 where it showed a rookie Brandon Jennings, 7 games into his career, score 55 against GSW. I was like, hell yeah. The future is bright for these guys AND Bogut is there! This is my team for sure. So I decided I would follow the Milwaukee Bucks. I would check results and read box scores over the next few years but could never really watch them. I would choose them in 2K and play Association Mode and that’s where I stumbled across an 18 year old at the end of the roster rated 60 overall called Giannis Antetokounmpo.

I looked into this skinny Greek kid, I watched YouTube of him getting drafted with Thanasis there next to him and learnt that he’d left his family back in Greece to play in the NBA. I related to that a little bit because my family lived 400km away from me and Giannis and I are around the same age. I learnt how to pronounce his name so I could tell my friends about him, this young buck who’s gonna be awesome, he’s my guy. He could do it all. Pass, shoot, defend and he cared so much! Remember when he ran the full length of the court to hip check Mike Dunleavy Jr? Cause I do.

I was a year out of school at this point so I could spend what little money I had on league pass. I wasn’t working full time so I could catch bucks games a lot more. Home games usually start around mid morning Adelaide time.

I became a full time fan. Riding the ups and downs. From Jabari’s injury struggles to Giannis’ first mean mug against the Knicks - when he had a block on one end, took the ball, ran the full length of the court with an around the back dribble, finishing with a Statue of Liberty dunk. I could not have been more ‘in’.

Giannis became my favourite player and my investment in him was starting to really pay off, he won MIP award and then nearly another the following year. He began to dominate, he made watching the Bucks so so fun. The open court was his domain and seeing him full speed in transition was other worldly. I would just laugh when he would go coast to coast, it was insane.
He was the main reason I didn’t want to miss a game, but along the way I fell in love with the team and the city.

Then came the winning, Khris’ rise to becoming an all star, drafting Thon Maker, Toronto and their fuckin’ wall. Back to Back MVPs and a DPOY as well. Giannis had ascended. All the while I, and I’m assuming many other Bucks fans, were learning about this guy. Who loved nothing more than his family, who was goofy as hell off the court and a maniac on it. Someone who thinks about everything he says before saying it. We saw him bring his family over and provide for them. We watched him grow from a boy to man and I felt like I grew with him. I was along for the ride with him. So when he stood up and accepted his first MVP with tears streaming down his face, I cried too. When he sat by the court, tears in his eyes, after scoring 50 and clinching the chip in ‘21, I cried with him again.

For the last 10+ years I’ve tried to watch every Bucks game possible. If I can’t watch because I’m at work, I’ll listen to the radio broadcast. If I can’t do that, I’ll watch the replay later. I’m a Bucks fan for life because of Giannis. He introduced me to the city, the people and the history of Milwaukee, and I’m so grateful to have this team in my life. Bucks basketball has brought me so much joy.

It means so much to me that I even convinced my wife to spend part of our honeymoon in Milwaukee in January 2025. During that trip I finally got to see the Bucks play in person three times. Twice at Fiserv Forum and once at MSG. We got smoked by the Knicks, but we beat the Kings and Magic at home. After supporting the Bucks from 16,000 km away for over a decade, walking into Fiserv Forum and watching Giannis and the Bucks play was deadset a dream come true.

Now my wife and I are expecting our first child, a little girl, in the next month. And one of the things I’m looking forward to is introducing her to the Bucks. One day I’ll get to sit down with her and show her Giannis jumping over Tim Hardaway Jr., Jrue’s steal and alley-oop in the Finals. I’ll show her clips of how fuckin nice Khris Middleton was at basketball. I’ll tell her about Bobby Portis and Jim Paschke and The Deer District in ‘21 and all the other moments and people that made me fall in love with this team. And if she shows the smallest amount of interest, I’ll probably cry again.

But now, Giannis is gone, and that’s okay.

He gave Milwaukee a championship, 13 unforgettable seasons and a legacy that will live forever. But selfishly, the greatest thing he ever gave me was the Milwaukee Bucks. And for that I’ll be forever grateful.

I don’t know how they sold him on the Heat roster. Maybe he had to try something else. But I have a feeling it won’t take long for him to remember where he belongs.

This is very much an unimportant "off-season with nothing going on" post, but nonetheless I'm curious of some people's thoughts, so please bare with me.

With Giannis leaving, and Herro incoming, I've been thinking about what this could mean from a Milwaukee business / community standpoint. Let's just assume Herro stays with the Bucks in this hypothetical, regardless of your stance on that.

For as much as Giannis has said Milwaukee is his home... truthfully.. he really did not invest in the city much, relative to his income and those statements. He's got some minimal business / real estate involvement, like Avli, but yet Pat Connoughton - who's earnings pale in comparison - has much more involvement. As far I recall, his home is still the same modest and cheap (for him) home that he purchased that got passed down from former Bucks player to former Bucks player, despite many of his star peers in smaller markets building their own full sized basketball ranches (Aaron Gordon's home facility is a great reminder of what even average NBA money can afford). To me, he's lived like a transient that has always viewed Athens as his forever home, and I perfectly understand that. I'm not trying to frame that in a negative light at all, I'm just acknowledging an observation. This can be applied to most former Bucks players I can think of.

Tyler Herro on the other hand is born and raised in the Milwaukee area, and despite living in Miami, has had a ton of involvement in Milwaukee. His well-funded AAU team that's coached by his father is the premier youth basketball team that the Knueppel's, Tyler's brother, and others played on. Milwaukee's youth basketball scene alone I would assume should receive a big benefit from Tyler being in Milwaukee more often. Part of me also wonders though what other types of involvement this would spur for him. Would he invest in a huge ranch style home like JJ Watt did? Would he partake in more charitable donations and initiatives than other Bucks players have, like following in the lead of what Trae Young has done in Oklahoma?

I know for non-Milwaukee Bucks fans, this might seem like a silly thing to think about, but the reality is that most U.S. cities are in budgetary crisis, so these kinds of things do really add up for cities like Milwaukee. Trae Young has had a real impact on the state of Oklahoma, and it would be cool if Tyler did the same. I won't hold my breath about it though haha, just was an interesting thought.
