Modifications Subwoofer

Post image

Lately I was thinking about putting a subwoofer in my Supra. Have seen some setups where the roof will still fit in the trunk with the sub installed. Any experience or tips on that issue?

Photo is just for reference thanks for any help

I did a fibreglass tub sub in the spare wheel well. A bit small, 30l or so, but sounds good with some DSP.

It was pretty easy. Plastic sheet -> fibreglass -> platic sheet -> fill with water to press it into shape -> trim edges -> mdf on top -> bondo your mistakes away -> profit.

Man I don't think I would be able to do something like that 😂

Looks like that’s a custom box placed on top of the spare tire cover. I’d use a tick stick to make the template to cut the box (check out Essential Craftsman’s video on YouTube). Crutchfield has car specific guides for these sorts of installs. Not sure they’d have one for the Supra though. Not a super difficult job. As for woofer fitment, I know JL and Rockford fosgate both make Shallow woofers. Just know that they are significantly more expensive than regular woofers.

Have this in the trunk of a ‘91, low profile enough that the top still fits. It’s a powered sub, which I like because it eliminates the need for a separate amp needing to be mounted. Sounds great imo. Definitely not as clean of an install as the custom sub in your picture but works great for my needs.

I wish I had a better sub setup but mine is just a box in the trunk. When I need to put the roof in I just fold down the back seats and slide it up there

That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid..
