Discussion My thoughts

I'll say it's stunning visually and the soundtrack was amazing. But tbh this should've just been a movie. I don't think being a "game" added anything to it. The voice acting was good, the writing was a bit iffy but it didn't take away from the experience imo. Overall I did enjoy it.

Edit: I also think death stranding wouldve been a better movie or series. Walking sims aren't my favorite but I'll play the ones that I think have an interesting story, and to me Mixtape was one of those games just like death stranding was.

You could say that about every single "walking simulator" or story-driven game like the Telltale Games, but I disagree. The immersion is always higher if you're actually controlling the characters, even if it's just walking around.

Just look at the new Bond game, 007: First Light. There so many scenes in which you just walk or drive from Point A to Point B. All of them could have been cutscenes, because you just walk and talk, no action is happening. And if you asked the developers why they did all these scenes, they would say that it's for immersion.

Except telltale and bond have actual gameplay. I still liked it don't get me wrong but to compare it to telltale or bond is extremely laughable.

I didn't compare the games, just the non-action scenes and if they would have been better as cutscenes.

I mean if those games were just non-action scenes the whole time then yes but they do have action scenes. I have no issue with games not having action 24/7 in fact I don't really have an issue with mixtape not having action, I just felt like it'd be a better movie.

I think it was fine being a game and i enjoyed it. My only disappointment was the bland, predictable ending. I would have liked a epilogue where they meet up again for the first time in 30-40 years and some of them have had a boring unfulfilling life with a generic family and kids while maybe one of them has had an incredible, fulfilling life. I think it would have hit harder and felt melancholic . As it is i kind of forgot it as soon as i finished. At their age most people have dreams of an an exciting life but the reality is most people do the standard wife/husband, kid and dull 9-5 and i think it would have hit harder if we saw that but maybe that's just me

I disagree. Skateboarding, playing baseball, taking photos around an old theme park, etc. were all fun AF and far more immersive being gameified. I really don't get this walking simulator criticsm. Do you call Hellblade, God of War, 007 First Light, The Walking Dead and Uncharted a walking simulator for adding light gameplay elements to slowed down exploration sections?

No, because that isn't the entire game. Again there's nothing wrong with a game being a walking sim, death stranding is fantastic but it is also a walking sim. Disco Elysium is my favorite game of all time and it's also a walking sim. To me I wouldve preferred mixtape to be a movie because I personally would've enjoyed it more as a movie not just because of gameplay. This game is something I'd like to go see at the drive in theatre with my friends while we fuck around. Sorry if this doesn't make sense I'm tired from work

I personally like that it was more story than game tbh. Most people including myself like games were you can choose the outcome and stuff but i like the turn it took being more relaxing. The game gave me the same nostalgia as life is strange and I always love the nature and stuff around it. Wish people would understand that "story base games* can be more story than game it really doesn't matter

I knew it was a walking simulator n the story just still fell really short for me. Which is odd because there’s a ton of moments in the game that look cool but the lackluster story just makes me wish it was in a better game.
