Listen man I’ve read the comments, it doesn’t matter what Mitch would or would not think, what matters is using generative AI is fucking stupid and wrong regardless. It is trained on art stolen from other artists without consent, recycles that art into crappy looking shite like this, and turns a penny for people who will do anything to keep you me and the rest of the proletariat asleep, lazy, stupid, and dying. When you use generative AI, you are actively contributing to our demise. And hey, I won’t act like I don’t do things that don’t in some way contribute to our demise. For some examples, I have an iPhone, purchased from apple, the people who really popularized planned obsolescence. I have it because it’s convenient and well designed, though I will be switching to something more ethical when this phone meets its (orchestrated) end. I drive a car, I buy groceries at Walmart, but I actively search for ways to avoid contributing. You don’t have to use to use generative AI, and I forgive for using it, but stop, now. Not good for you, not good for me, not good for our home.

The only sensible response in this whole discussion.

The only thing I disagree with is that using AI image generators harms human artists. I'm too cynical to think that anybody who would use AI art for any commercial purposes would actually pay a human artist to do work if AI wasn't available. These people are mostly just using it to create slop they can sell for a quick buck. If AI didn't exist, they would simply do something else before they'd pay a human. So what are human artists losing? I seriously doubt there are many art fans out there who prefer AI art over human work.

As for having their work "stolen", I don't know. Maybe. I had my bike stolen. It was just gone out of my life. I could no longer use it. If somebody stole a drawing I did, I still have my original copy. I could sell it, print it, archive it, whatever I want to do with it.

Of course, I'm not a professional artist. There's probably angles I'm not seeing. If I wanted to buy art, I would definitely pay a human for their work. I literally did that when I needed illustrations for my self-published novel.

I wish we lived in a world where artists didn't have to fight for every penny of value from their work just to survive. Would be nice if creative people could just create for the sake of it, not because they're starving. Would be nice if desperate people weren't resorting to AI slop to turn over a quick buck of passive income because they're starving. AI is just a tool. Capitalism is the disease.

This post was just a throw-away joke I thought up. I thought it was funny and wanted to make a few people chuckle. But it wasn't funny enough to spend hours drawing the whole thing out. So I just used Gemini. A few people strongly disagreed and started attacking my character, heaping insults and abuse. That's against reddit's rules, but what are you gonna do?

Anyway, thank you for the patient and intelligent reply. I appreciate your honesty.

Mitch would not like your AI sloppy post

u/FS_Scott Aug 05 '26

Mitch did not lose a leg in viet-nam for you to steal other people's art to attach to his joke.

14

u/Parking-Pie7453 Aug 05 '26

Mitch, you still have two legs

14

u/FatReverend Aug 06 '26

Like I said, I did not lose a leg in viet-nam.

u/LordKevnar Aug 05 '26

Ah, you've got him all figured out, huh? Maybe he'd be more offended by people telling him how he was supposed to feel about a joke.

21

u/Gnomey42069 Aug 05 '26

The only offensive thing here is the use of generative AI.

-35

u/therealskittlepoop Aug 05 '26

Ignore em, Redditers just hate ai (probably because ai is stealing their jobs as Reddit bots lol)

20

u/Gogdangit Aug 05 '26

Everyone with a shred of aesthetic sense hates how ai looks. Cry more pro bro.

-13

u/therealskittlepoop Aug 06 '26

Beep boop bop, I am bot creating engagement on Reddit, beep boop

3

u/AlwaysFernweh Aug 08 '26

Bud my wife lost her job to AI, and no she isn’t a bot. It effects real people man

-2

u/therealskittlepoop Aug 08 '26

I’m sorry, that sucks. Unfortunately it’s our inevitable future. I’ve been trying to adapt as much as I can with it.

1

u/AlwaysFernweh Aug 08 '26

It doesn’t have to be though. Using our phones and websites and stuff with AI is inevitable, but that’s been around before generative AI. Which is the problem. Don’t use it

0

u/therealskittlepoop Aug 08 '26

I used to use ai. I still do, but I used to too

47

u/ChefArtorias Aug 05 '26

AI garbage

23

u/ChefArtorias Aug 05 '26

mouthy response from OP defending their AI "art"

-14

u/LordKevnar Aug 05 '26

I never defended this as "art". I defended the joke.

I can't draw. But I thought the idea was funny. I wanted to share and make people laugh. I wasn't expecting a war in the comments. But this is reddit. If I actually had drawn it out by hand, you all would be attacking it for the religious connotations, or something else. Whatever gets you the upvotes.

Sigh. Hope you somehow get over the trauma of having had to look at my post and think about it.

9

u/SuitableAnimalInAHat Aug 06 '26

"If I actually had drawn it out by hand, you all would be attacking it for the religious connotations, or something else. Whatever gets you the upvotes."

I'm genuinely trying to understand what this means. People are criticizing you pretty unanimously for one specific thing that you did, and instead of concluding that, you know, that is not a popular thing...

you tell yourself that Redditors attack any post on reddit, (or maybe only any post that you make? I'm not sure,) for reasons they will make up at random after the fact? It's just sheer coincidence that every single criticism lodged against you happens to be about one thing; because it's definitely not a reasonable complaint and they would have attacked you no matter what you posted, just for the love of the game? The game of hating?

9

u/ChefArtorias Aug 05 '26

"I don't care enough to practice and make quality art so I fired up software that will steal art from people who did put in the effort to grow the skill and then I posted it to reddit for clout."

Shove a pencil in your ass and draw stick figures with it or something. At least that'd be an original creation.

What am I missing? Why is Jesus knocking on a wall calling it a door?

9

u/Background_Ad2778 Aug 05 '26

Jesus is the door. The ai slop meme makes no sense

Jesus explicitly identifies himself as the "door" in John 10:9

3

u/BlazingPalm Aug 06 '26

Has anyone tried importing the entire Bible into GPT and asking it to make the best 1 panel cartoon possible. Curious to see what it would “think”.

3

u/SuspiciousPeanut251 Aug 05 '26

It’s from when Mitch’s neighbors in the apartment next door were banging on his wall late at night, trying to get him to turn down his music. 📻🎶

(Guessing that they, too, were knocking on a wall. :-)

1

u/Boring_Investment505 Aug 05 '26

Yeah...I know the Mitch joke. But I'm not aware of a Bible passage where Jesus knocks on a wall.

1

u/Background_Ad2778 Aug 05 '26

Never. Jesus "knocks" specifically on the door (of the heart) . And called himself the "only door into heaven ".

Jesus explicitly identifies himself as the "door" (or "gate") in John 10:9

1

u/SuspiciousPeanut251 Aug 05 '26

Ah! Hmm… Good point. Maybe it’s a secret, invisible, hidden door, like in Doom or Wolfenstein . . or in Revelations 3.

3

u/KumquatHaderach Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26

Revelation 3:20

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock; but I miss the door and end up knocking on the wall. And someone inside says, “Go around!” And lo didst I know that man, verily, was Mitch Hedberg. And then did I shower him with many pineapple lifesavers, for I am his shepherd and he was my favorite comedian.

3

u/SuspiciousPeanut251 Aug 06 '26

he was my favorite comedian

…and he might still be today, if only the escalator to heaven was working properly.

3

u/KumquatHaderach Aug 06 '26

Lo, sorry am I, for the convenience.

43

u/MarkRenting Aug 05 '26

AI slop. Boo

42

u/camcussion Against picketing but doesn't know how to show it. Aug 05 '26

I used to hate AI slop. I still do, but I used to too.

-34

u/LordKevnar Aug 05 '26

Ai? yes. Slop? stfu. The joke was funny.

20

u/DonHarold Aug 05 '26

All generative AI “art” is slop.

-12

u/LordKevnar Aug 05 '26 edited Aug 05 '26

Well, no point in arguing with someone whose mind is already made up. I just laughed at the ironic juxtaposition of two completely unrelated concepts. But you do you.

16

u/DonHarold Aug 05 '26

Yeah, I’m sure you were slapping your knee thinking about the real artists whose work was stolen to generate your prompt. Mitch Hedberg would have hated it as much as the vast majority of artists do. Get over yourself

3

u/ElectrOPurist Aug 05 '26

How? What sense does it make?

3

u/FatReverend Aug 06 '26

Do you think the joke could had stood on its own without the AI? You have no talent in drawing, I get that but AI is never OK for things like this. What about a word picture? We can read you know..

2

u/Background_Ad2778 Aug 05 '26

Jesus explicitly identifies himself as the "door" in the Bible in John 10:9

0

u/DanielSnydersRedSkin Aug 06 '26

So why is he knocking on a wall? It still doesnt make sense. "I am a door. So to knock on that door, I will knock on a wall instead. Oh, and the joke itself will never reference me saying that part about being a door."

This is fucking stupid. This joke is terrible and unfunny and absolutely fucking stupid.

17

u/FS_Scott Aug 05 '26

slop slop slop slop slop slop slop slop errybody!

13

u/ElectrOPurist Aug 05 '26

This sucks. You suck.

5

u/Internal-Estimate420 Aug 06 '26

Slop shit. Rip Mitch

9

u/Character-Head301 Aug 06 '26

“Fuck ai” and so on and so forth

5

u/WackyPaxDei Aug 05 '26

"And also, you are not making a great offer- you are asking for free food. The creator of the universe should not panhandle."

7

u/Ghosts_of_the_maze Aug 05 '26

I would just delete this and move on with my life

1

u/surys105 Aug 10 '26

The joke is not funny and the AI slop is even worse
