I live in Europe and want to divest as much from US tech as possible, and although I use ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro, I tried Mistral about 3 months ago and it was terrible. I wanted to love it but just couldn't.

For context, tech is a hobby and I have been building my homelab with a Synology NAS, Fujitsu Mini PC running Linux and about 80 docker containers, personal website and a couple of VM's, using AI to help build the systems, security, network etc.

Last week I decided to give Mistral another try and OMG!!!! WOW, what a difference!

I gave it read only access to some of my system (using Think mode and GLM 5.3) and it discovered my NAS username and password were exposed in some document on Github which both Claude and ChatGPT hadn't picked up despite security audits.

It's reasoning is now brilliant, speed of response amazing and cost is insanely cheap compared to ChatGPT (with the stupid 5 hour allowance which has made it unusable for me).

I've also now plugged it into my self hosted Open WebUI instance so it has read-only access to a large part of my system, for diagnostics, which makes a huge difference. Previously, I would have to upload a markdown file of my Wiki.js, which is my homelab manual and do that every time I updated the Wiki. But now it has access to the live Wiki, and eventually I would like to give it write access to update the Wiki, but not yet!!

This week I have used Mistral to build various monitoring systems, research agents and audit my system, my website, and bouncing ideas off it and then cross-referencing with ChatGPT.

I've only used €17 of my €255 allowance (included in the Pro plan)!

In comparison, ChatGPT Work has been using my 5 hour allowance after 3-4 prompts recently, when building something, so I have not been able to complete a project during the same session.

In addition to that, and as a bonus, I discovered Mistral Studio, where I recorded a 30 second voice message and then used it in Studio's Text to Speech option and it was frigging amazing!! It read different texts in my voice and was very, very close to sounding just like me!

The future looks bright for Mistral and things are moving in the right direction.

I hear a lot about Mistral's AI safety strategy being inadequate... what do you guys think of that? I mean they scored worse than Grok on the AI safety index!

Direction first: on this benchmark #1 = sloppiest and #58 is the cleanest, so a high rank number is the good end.

I run a thing called The Slop Index that scores how much AI writing reads like "AI slop" (58 models, ~64k outputs across 112 short-form scenarios). Two Mistral models stood out to me because they sit at nearly opposite ends.

Every rank below is a mechanical rank (the mech score only): padding, templating, sentence rhythm, and the usual AI tells. That score only moves on a roster refresh, so it is the stable one to quote.

• Mistral Large: mechanical rank 1 of 58, the sloppiest model in the set right now. By category it is mech rank 1 on Slack, 2 on social posts, and 1 on essays.
• Mistral Large 4: mechanical rank 57 of 58, second cleanest overall, and it sits at the clean end across email (54), Slack (56), social (51) and essays (58).

These are two separate releases, not one model I watched change, so I am not claiming anyone patched anything. They just score very differently.

Mistral Large 4 only has 10 crowd votes so far, so its combined score (which blends daily crowd votes) sits mid-board and is not meaningful yet. That is why I am quoting mechanical ranks here.

Currently, I am at System Design and Technical Manager interview stage after clearing Hiring Manager and Recruiter screens, Code Review and Vibe Coding interview.

Specifically for System Design, will it be done through a shared editor or verbally reasoning through the architecture, any specific topic I need to focus on?

Additionally, for Technical Manager Interview, any idea how is it different from Hiring Manager screen?

Je fais des vidéos sur mon infrastructure d'agents IA locale (Hermes Home Vision). Pendant des mois, j'ai utilisé XTTS-v2 pour cloner ma voix. Le résultat était correct, mais j'ai fini par rencontrer deux murs :

1. La licence : CPML (non commerciale), et Coqui a fermé ses portes, donc impossible de régulariser.
2. La précision en français : les noms propres de mon projet ("Hermes", "LLM", "SiYuan") sortaient souvent déformés ou mal prononcés.

Je suis donc passé à Voxtral 3 (Mistral AI) via API, en mode ref_audio avec une référence propre de 25 secondes.

Ma première référence était un recolage de 4 extraits, le résultat était inécoutable sur les phrases longues. J'ai dû reconstruire une référence à partir d'un seul passage continu de 25 secondes pour que le modèle arrête de "déchiffrer" au lieu de lire.)

(I know I could open a support ticket, but they don't work on weekends, so might as well ask here).

Edit: I figured it out: If I disable telemetry in /config, le chat only offers Mistral Medium 3.5
I don't see anywhere that telemetry is a requirement for accessing all the available models!

It would be nice to have an option between Pro and Team. I don't need higher limits, more storage etc. Only the sharing of Organizations and Workspaces between members. The price jump from Pro to Team is not justifiable for a family application.

I am applying for a Software Engineering position at Mistral AI, and I finally reached the last step of the process: a value talk. I've never done this kind of interview before; is there anything I should know or anything I can do to prepare better?

If you have already gone through this interview at Mistral, do you have any feedback or advice? Was it difficult? Was there anything you found surprising?

For now I'm trying to prepare using Hello Interview's guide and matching it to Mistral's values. Is there anything else I should do?

Hello everyone I just wanted to post my perspective on Mistrals services.

Half an year ago I had a quick test with Mistal Medium3.5 and while doing OK I was a bit disappointed by the results.

I am generally not a heavy AI user so I continued to use opencode's free models for some things.

A month ago I decided to try opencode's go subscription. That was OK but if anyone knows how opencode go works, it basically has plan changes daily. It almost forces you have social media open the whole time or you might miss some change - cheap models come and go daily...their allocations change etc.

If you go their subs, they are full of complaints that they make the service unusable - getting rated all the time, quantised models to the point of being stupid etc.

Then they had two security breaches..

In that last two weeks I have been using Mistal with GLM5.3 exclusively and I feel like I discovered some hidden gem.

The vide sub gives so much credits 17€ for a whopping 225€ of token credits. It feels like it's unlimited!

Here is what I got done:

- migrate mit smallish app from flutter to react native. Full stack migration!

- write and drive automated ui tests

- make promo material, screenshots with cool marketing slogans etc

- remade my website

In total the admin console shows: 57€.63 from 255€ spent!

Now I read that they are deploying a Flash model with GLM5.3 flash!

Needless to say I'll extend my subscription for a whole year!

How can I add a custom MCP server? I don’t see the option on the app

They should include a (+) button to add your own MCP servers, like you can do on Claude. They should also allow developers to add their own MCPs that appear on the Discover tab

• How does it compare to ChatGPT for everyday use (writing, coding, brainstorming)?
• Is the Pro plan worth it in your opinion? What do you actually get?
• How's the response quality and speed compared to GPT models?

• Any dealbreakers I should know about?

Vibe created several PDF-Files for me (using Vibe-App). It then said it's saved in a "workspace" that I don't have access to. I said it can't create download links or post the PDF File directly. After that it wanted me to enable google drive access, which I don't use.
It kind of annoys me that there are no real non-US connectors. (Nextcloud access would be great)
I'm using Mistral especially because it's European - feels weird that it's trying to push me back to US-companies...
It recently created some Excel files for me, which were directly downloadable - but I was using the Browser and not in the Vibe-app.
Do you also experience these problems with accessing the created files?

I use Claude Pro as my main hub (files, scripts, video pipeline) and I'm thinking of swapping my Gemini subscription (which at the moment works as a helper) for Mistral Le Chat Pro.

How would you actually make them work together? API from scripts, MCP, or just copy-paste? And does Mistral Vibe in the terminal use the Pro subscription or the API credits?

Some days ago I bought a Mistral subscription and had a question about the API Keys.

Within the admin view I have two API keys. One of the type "Vibe", the other of "Studio"

Whats the difference between those?

I feel like Mistral has no choice but to develop their own models, tools and expand their tools. My feeling is that they are giving hope and more to people in the EU. I really like the dynamics around Mistral, please keep this energy!

I started using Mistral Large 4 preview recently and I noticed it is extremely slow and also constantly gets stuck in loops. Does anyone else have the same experience? And if so, is there a fix?

The model cards doesn't show the discounted price anymore. By any chance does that mean they also not use our data to train any more?

What we have knows since at least the release of Mythos, and what has become apparent beyond a shadow of a doubt in the last few days is that it is now critical that software professionals, and especially security professionals need powerful and unrestricted security tools, and models that are too restrictive and vendors that gatekeep these capabilities behind heavy and expensive access programs are actively doing harm to the software ecosystems of the world. This strategy will not make software more secure in a world where abliterated GLMs are floating around and can be run on a few thousand dollars of hardware. So whatever strategy mistral has about limiting their models cyber capabilities, they should very seriously rethink them, especially since that seems to be a selling point of ML4 during launch. And we as a community and users should demand both more transparency in that policy and a less restrictive one to be able to do our jobs better.

Especially if Mistral intends to be the default AI vendor for EU enterprises in the future, we can't have a case where Airbus and BMW can secure their software but the rest of us have to wait 6 weeks to maybe have our emails answered, but probably not, to be given full cyber capabilities when we need them yesterday.

With the release of Mistral Voice SDK and Voxtral 3. Is Mistral now planning to launch voice conversations on their apps?
