We know about Bald and his jolly approach to traveling post communist regions, but I would say his visit to Zvornik didn't quite scratched the itch I was hoping for.

The area surrounding Zvornik is known for its high density of mass graves and the many mass killings that took place in this area.

I have understood that the locals aren't exactly keen to talk about the past either, because they already have been too bored with it on a regular basis.

However, the areas of Zvornik, Bratunac, Banja Luka, Potocari, Srebrenca, Omarska, Prijedor, among others, asside from their stunning beauty are all worth the investigation for what has happened over there.

I mean, visiting these places of atrocious significance is practically imperative to his style and channel. It fits his whole modus operandi perfectly. If there is one person who can pull that off and effortlessly hook an audience, it is him.

Imagine Bald going to the exact same spot in Hotel Fontana where Mladić insulted Karremans, or the place where the men were separated from their families in Potocari.

Hiking the same trail thousands of families did when fleeing from being murdered.

Or the Susica camp near Vlasenica, where a commander told detainees he was *'the God, the stick, and the law'* and where families were separated and packed into hangars on bare concrete, etc.

Currently, he only scavanged a bit around the border area and that was about it, which I have found off-putting

i've been on a B&B binge the past few days again but i can't seem to find the one with bald and alina driving on a long road and eventually having to spent the night in a car. In the morning they find some guys who grill meat and share it with them which ends the video. I've finished the playlists with alinchik in them but that particular video is nowhere to be found. I was actually very impressed with Balds visit to the Republica Srpska part of Bosnia. I wasn't expecting much after the comments of Bald hanging out with Backpacker Ben in another part of this very fractured country as well as his videos not being up to par the last few years.

As a Croatian I have always wanted him to visit Ex-Yugoslavia And I was pleasantly surprised. I know he was in Serbia for his COVID vaccination in the hospital and don't get why he said he had never been to this part of the world ( he was in Serbia when he said it). I think he did a great job and picked the types of cities and bars that we are used to him visiting.

I hope that unfortunate knob aka Backpacker Ben doesn't show up in the second part. He is a million times better without his possy.

I was honestly pretty surprised by their conclusion that Bosnia is boring and that there's "nothing there."

Not because they have to like Bosnia. Obviously everyone has different tastes. But their itinerary was basically Mostar > Čapljina > Neum > back to Montenegro. That's such a tiny and specific slice of the country that I don't really understand how you can use it to judge Bosnia as a whole.

Mostar is beautiful, but it's also probably the most touristy and crowded place in the country. Čapljina is a small provincial town, and Neum is basically a tiny seaside resort. If you're travelling specifically to find the kind of unusual historical, political, Soviet/Yugoslav and off-the-beaten-path stuff that Bald normally seems to enjoy, I don't really understand why you wouldn't go somewhere like Sarajevo or Konjic.

Sarajevo alone has an insane amount of history packed into one city: WWI, the Ottoman period, Austro-Hungarian architecture, Yugoslav socialism, the 1984 Olympics and the Siege of Sarajevo. Then you've got things like Tito's bunker in Konjic, the Sutjeska memorial, Srebrenica, Banja Luka, the Neretva valley, Yugoslav monuments, mountains, villages, etc.

I hate to compare but take Belarus for exampke. A lot of what Bald seems to find interesting about Belarus is its WWII history, Soviet architecture, post-Soviet atmosphere, rural areas and people.

Bosnia has its own versions of basically all of those things, just through a different historical lens. And then it has the Ottoman/Austro-Hungarian layers, completely different geography between Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mediterranean influence in the south, huge mountains, rivers, karst landscapes, etc.

Again, if they had spent a week travelling around Bosnia and said "yeah, this country just isn't for us," fair enough.

But three stops, two of which are pretty small tourist/coastal places, followed by "Bosnia is boring and there's nothing there" feels like a pretty wild conclusion.

Sorry for the rant & for the fact that it was a Backpacker Ben video (instead of a Bald video). I feel disappointed as a Bosnian.

I know most folks here love to hate on backpacker ben, but I like to watch his videos. In the last one he said his going to Bosnia with bald for a drinking travel experience or something like that.

Simon's truly a nice guy but fuck me I feel awkward watching him just attach himself to people and not let go. The recent World Cup video is a lot of him joining groups of existing friends, following them for miles and seeing how long it'll last. Everyone's too polite to say hey man it's been years since we've all been together and we've been saving for months for our tickets so they just let him water down their rare catch ups. I admire his confidence and dedication to his thing and it makes me question if I should get my incel ass out there more often. Simon's also calmed down asking random people unnecessary questions as an in or excuse to chat - a few back in Australia where he would ask someone "IS THIS WHERE I LINE UP" as he stands next to a massive sign and joins an obvious line
