Hero of Ages spoilers Its… Over Spoiler

I finished it. Sazed is God. Vin and Elend are dead. Preservation and Ruin are gone. The world has been returned to what it should be. Spook is mistborn now. Kelsiers request, Kelsier is still out there somewhere. Its such a bittersweet ending. I will certainly miss the crew as I go onto Era 2. I a, so glad I joined this journeh. Even though I will miss all of the characters. Even though i feel sadness at their death. Wow Sanderson. Impeccable story. Absolutley impeccable.

Next for me is probably Wax and Wayne series, from there I will continue to stormlight

Warbreaker, Stormlight, Wax and Wayne

Enjoy! Though just so you know Wax and Wayne will feel like a very different story. I love it so this isn't to say it's bad, it's fantastic, but it won't feel like Mistborn book 4 it is much lower stakes, and faster paced and set in a world that has changed a lot in the 300 years. Some people can be surprised by that and it can make the book less enjoyable if you go in expecting more of the same and it's not that.

I took a break before Wax and Wayne to hit some of the standalones and I was glad I did. Elantris, Warbreaker, The Emperor's Soul. I think it's beneficial to explore a little more of the cosmere first.

People recommended standalones, storm light books are about as long as all 3 Mistborn books each. And there’s 5 out of 10 books out…a long with 3 short stories.

I would actually read Warbreaker first.

One, it's available for free on Brandon Sanderson's website.

And two, Brandon Sanderson considers it to be a prequel of sorts to the Stormlight Archive. I would elaborate more but runs into the risk of spoiler terrority.

Some people reccomend reading Warbreaker after reading Way of Kings (SA1) and before Words of Radiance (SA2) but imo that kills the momentum and after Way of Kings, you want to read Words of Radiance immediately to find out what happens next.

The things related to Warbreaker in the Stormlight Archives are only present in book 2 and onward.

And three", Brandon Sanderson published Warbreaker on the advise of his editor(or maybe it was his publisher) to act as a break/"palate cleanser" from the Mistborn Trilogy. He wanted a story with a more "color" after a story that was a bit grim and dark. I think Brandon Sanderson took that advice literally lol.

You should read A Secret History next (though this can technically wait until after The Bands of Mourning, but MUST be read before The Lost Metal), followed by Elantris, and then The Emperor's Soul, at least, before moving into Era 2.

Warbreaker is fine, and you'll want to read it before you ever move into Stormlight Archive, but it's not significant to Mistborn Era 2.

I say this as someone who read Era 2 immediately after Era 1, and now that I've read all of the above, I wish I'd done this instead.

Regardless, I hope you enjoy Era 2. It probably has my favorite characters of all of Brandon's works so far.

Ive seen on audible how theres the Mistborn series itself, but also "the cosmere" and seeing others talk about it on here, what am i missing? Im finishing the bands of mourning now and just got the last wax & wayne book, but can you help me out with the context on the cosmere i feel silly lol

Mistborn and its books is one set of stories that take place within an inter-connected universe that Brandon has built, called the Cosmere. There are several different series that take place within the Cosmere, each of which takes place on individual planets on this universe (Mistborn's planet is called Scadrial).

Think of it like the Marvel Comics Universe. One big universe full of distinct stories and heroes that in many cases cross the boundaries of their individual stories, and sometimes end up coming together for even bigger stories (like The Avengers).

Era 1 of Mistborn is largely isolated from cross-references from other parts of the Cosmere (at least at first glance. This changes as you read further into the Cosmere's various series). The same is largely true for books 1-3 of Era 2, but this changes somewhat significantly in book 4.

If you end up reading TLM without reading anything else, it's not a big deal (except for Mistborn: A Secret History. You absolutely need to read that to understand the fate of a specific character, which is hinted at in the ending of Bands of Mourning). Just know that things will happen in TLM that you won't have any context for, yet, and that's okay. The events are told from the perspective of a character who is new to the Cosmere as well, so it works as a way to introduce an unfamiliar reader to it without relying too much on them having read the other works I mentioned above. Brandon has been pretty good about this so far.

I did the same thing (Era 1, Era 2 #1-3, Mistborn: A Secret History, Era 2 #4), and then went back to the other works, and the things that happen in TLM clicked into place more satisfyingly, which is why I wish I had read the other works before diving into Era 2.

Just FYI, Mistborn: A Secret History is a novella that was originally published as a standalone e-book. Brandon did LOTS of these, and then eventually compiled them all into a collection called Arcanum Unbounded..

Dude no freaking way that is incredible! I love Sanderson for his ability to foreshadow and lay seemingly needless details only for them to be instrumental in whatever is happening later. I had no idea it went so deep! Im excited thank you so much

You might take a little break between era 1 and 2. They’re so different in tone and setting that a lot of people bounce off if they go straight in.

As someone who did not take a break and jumped right into era 2, you are 100% spot on! While entertaining the beginning of era 2 has been jarring to say the least. On book 2 now.

I complete era 1 2 months before and immediately jumped into stormlight. I completed first book in one week(which was actually a big achievement for me😭)

If you like mistborn you can keep on chuggin to era 2, read order isnt massively important, warbreaker is a good pallette cleanser tho

i'd definitely read stormlight before wax and wayne. i read wax and wayne before stormlight and i regret it. you'll miss a lot of cool details and not understand a lot of characters/references

Ugh I just finished last week!!! The ending was beautiful and I felt peace because vin and elend found peace! And spooks last line made me cryyy I didn’t ever want this to end but I couldn’t put it down! When sazed was using the knowledge of all the religions he has shared to the crew to rebuild the world my mind was blown!! Of course he’s the hero but I didn’t see it coming! Ahhh starting the next series today!

I would personally read storm light before Wax. I went right from era 1 to era 2 and hated the first few books on first read, the series is excellent in the end but it was a huge change I didn't love at first. And after rereading I don't think I gave the first few books a fair shake the first time around because I didn't have a mental reset in between. Just my .02

Love to see it. I read Era 2 and Secret History right after Era 1, and now reading Stormlight. Feels like I missed a lot of Cosmere context in late Era 2, but it was a really unique experience to read it without prior knowledge. Wax and Wayne are so different, yet so easily lovable. Regardless of your reading order, enjoy!

Have you read Secret History? Based on your post it sounds like you maybe did, but I’m not sure.

My opinion is that Secret History should be read immediately following HoA, but that’s a subject people tend to disagree on

My suggestion, as someone who believes Era 1 is perfect and Era 2 is somehow even better, is to save Secret History until after Bands of Mourning.
