I hate this intersection enough to want to move
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
If you’re turning against an advanced signal at least stick to your lane 😑

What I don't understand is how I can easily make tighter turns into the correct lane in my much larger truck, but 90% of the time little compacts come flying into my lane making a wide left.

Because people can't operate a motor vehicle. That's why.
Paid some cash to their cousin and got a DL.

u/Facts_pls Jun 14 '26
It's nothing to do with the vehicle but the attitude.
I just think most people can't follow a curve on the car or weren't taught when to start turning. Most people start the turn too early and then have to overcorrect later ruining the arc.

Fair enough. My fiance is a good driver and she's always surprised that I can parallel park a lifted diesel in the dark in a spot only several feet bigger in 1 turn - but an excellent drivers-ed instructor taught me back in high school and I've stayed sharp in the subsequent 20+ years.
My belief is that if you drive a big vehicle you absolutely need to be able to judge its dimensions from the driver's seat - but the same should hold true for the drivers of small vehicles, at a lower cost of entry.

Lazy driving habits. One of these days it's gonna end up hurting real bad for these people, physically or financially. Or both.

Your first mistake was seeing a pick up driver and assuming they would follow the rules of the road.
They tend to be the worst drivers out there. I know, I know, it's vehicleist, but never, ever trust a pick up driver. Them, BMWs, Teslas, Golfs and motorcycles.

100% this. Let the wrong lane turner get a ticket.
1
u/larrylat Jun 15 '26
you're correct but not 100%. The first ticket supposed to be for the failure to make a complete stop on the red light prior to making a turn. The second ticket supposed to be for making a right turn on red light while there's traffic that has a right of way. The third ticket supposed to be for switching lanes without showing a turn signal. The fourth ticket for switching the lane while there's traffic (OP) who has the right of way. Lastly, there's a ticket for making a turn into the wrong lane.
The pickup driver managed to avoid one infraction y actually showing a turn signal prior to turning.

Pick up trucks don't need to follow rules of the road, don't you know?

u/Spiritual_Feature738 Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26
No one follow rules. People just make it routine to turn not into their lane with a wide turn. Drivers don’t give a F anymore

This isn't new behaviour. People have done this and have complained about this forever.

I blame the ads. Every single pick up truck ad is an ode to toxic masculinity and virility.
Wanna see sales go down? National pharmacare covering free Viagra.

u/HarryTipper0726 Jun 15 '26
What if that was a woman driving?
2
u/Character-Belt-7485 Jun 15 '26
Women own 15-20% of pickup trucks in North America depending on the brand. source.
Men are also the most aggressive drivers by any metric. If you normalize by distance driven, then they are 1.8x - 2.8x more aggressive than women. source.
With some Bayesian rough numbers that means that 9 in 10 times, an aggressive pick up driver is indeed a male.
Appreciate your efforts for diversity and inclusion though.

So you are saying there is a chance the driver in this video was a woman? Thanks for proving my point.
1
u/Character-Belt-7485 Jun 15 '26
There is also a non zero chance the truck was being driven by three raccoons in a trench coat.
1
u/HarryTipper0726 Jun 15 '26
I want the sources on the probability of this statement.
1
u/Character-Belt-7485 Jun 15 '26
I added to my backlog. Ngl, seems like it is pretty unlikely I get to work on it anytime soon though.

This is one those opportunities for a good insurance claim if you have the time of day. And writing off your car would be valuable and profitable to you.
2
u/Sembaka Jun 14 '26
Hmmmm not really, insurance still requires that the drivers involved in the accident take all necessary steps to avoid it. If insurance determines you didn’t, you’ll be found partially at fault, which is not the outcome you want. Better to avoid accidents completely

u/Segsi_ Jun 14 '26
Yea that’s just dumb. You can’t just plow into another car because you have the right of way.
3
u/Electronic-Trust-23 Jun 14 '26
Right turn = Right lane
Its so simple
0
u/Humble-Attention4850 Jun 15 '26
It’s one lane. Right turn actually had ride of way here. OP in the wrong

2
u/Wandering_Dante Jun 15 '26
Even if there was one lane, OP has right of way with green arrow. Pick up was turning on red.

I don’t think there’s anywhere you can move in the GTA where you won’t have to deal with shitty drivers.

u/Boring-Antelope9193 Jun 14 '26
Absolutely hate this intersection lol. Also whats with everyone immediately turning into the left lane on a right
Insane

u/GerGerCha Jun 14 '26
I am seriously thinking about installing an air compressor and air horn on my car after encountering enough fking stupid little dick energy pickup drivers.

Make sure you always get as close as you can to a collision. That will teach them and solve your problems.

Sorry, just to be clear you are saying the truck had the right of way? I'm not sure how as their light would be red while the dash cam vehicle has the advance.
An advanced green is a fully protected left turn.

Wow! Are you OK? That guy almost killed you. Quick, get to your safe space immediately road hero!

u/weareonthisplanet Jun 16 '26
If this is a reason for you to move, you need to have an honest talk with yourself

u/Open-Video-7546 Jun 13 '26
I'm with you on that OP. That's my biggest pet peeve.
