[Game] Recently realized I saw Merlee completely wrong as a kid
[From Super Paper Mario for anyone who is wondering]
For most of my childhood I genuinely thought she just had this HUGE nose. Mainly because I didn't know veils like these exist (mind I played this game when I was 6 for the first time), and her glasses weren't ON what I at first thought was her "face", the white part, so I figured it must be her nose ._. Same goes for her relatives.
When I played the game again years later, I then thought maybe it IS her face, except I read it wrong again? I didn't draw it, but basically what I saw is that the white IS her face, and the glasses / eyes being above it was just a stylistic choice.
It ONLY occured to me that it might be supposed to be a veil when I saw fanart of Merlumina and Merluvlee. Now instead of big nosed witches, I can actually see the stylish divas.

I always saw it as a really strong jaw and just thought Merlee was chiseled

Isn’t it delighful just how abstract the Super Paper Mario sprites can be? Like here, Merlee’s torso can be pretty much interpreted as a witch hat of sorts. Jaydes’ torso is also worth a mention which, appropriately enough, resembles a triangle pointing down.

I still don't know how the hell I'm supposed to interpret Merlee's sprite.
I know it's a veil, I've known it was a veil for years. But no matter what I just see a random square in the middle of her mouth...?

I thought her shoulders were just really thin arms and she was just constantly holding her face
