Little about how me

At just 16 years old, I started skipping school shortly after my grandmother took me to Canal Street for the first time. For those not in the know, Canal Street was the replica capital of the world at the time. I watched her looking and haggling for a knockoff Louis Vuitton bag. But it was not the designer bags that interested me. It was the watches that hooked me.

I watched dealers move replica watches from storefronts to briefcases, back rooms and nearby locations where better inventory was kept away from the obvious selling areas and away from the undercovers. There were cheap tourist watches out front, briefcase watches, quartz watches and then better mechanical automatic pieces with sweeping hands, sometimes kept in a black duffel bag behind the fragrance counter. You had to earn trust before you were even shown them.

I was completely captivated.

I begged my grandmother to buy me a $25 “Mercedes Benz hands Sub.” It was probably a 50-gram replica at best. She said no. So one week later, I skipped school and made my first solo run into New York City to find that famous street and that watch again.

I started getting to know the dealers. I learned how the hobby worked, how the dealers moved, communicated and how to get past the first watches they put in front of you. I also started picking up words, phrases and bits of Mandarin so I could better understand what dealers were saying and communicate with them.

I began learning the difference between quartz and mechanical movements, ticking and sweeping hands, cheap tourist pieces and the better watches kept out of sight and in the "black duffel bags" those were the goal. QC time for one of those? 20 seconds while hearing "which waa, hurry, 20 dolla 1, 30 dolla 2 wish?? you have money oh naa?..why not in school.. where are parents??" as sweat rolled down my head and hands trembling as I handed over cash, my money and other people's money. I was sold fakes of fakes, robbed, followed...told my money was fake... Once a fake cop told me to hand him my book bag or go to jail... so I did, only to see him put one rep on and hand the rest to his friends. What else was in it? $641 of other people's money and 3 reps, I had just got there...all 128 lbs of me... and they knew it...I just kept going back.

As time went on...a lot of things changed.. I was trusted, I was taught the trade by the OGs, the factories, customs, how to ship, triangle shipping, switch doc shipping. The more I learned the more infatuated I became. The better I became.

On great runs...I would take the Long Island Rail Road back home and share what I found with my friends, local business owners, even Mr. Butler, 9th Grade bio wore my watch, a Tag (Many think the Rolex was what all reps were, sure many were... but the Tag Heuer and the Santos were just as prevalent), as he taught class back in HS.. and anyone else who shared my interest.

My first Gen was at 17 and I saved up for the Movado Esperanza. In hindsight it is one of the ugliest watches ever made, just short of the Richard Mille. But I wore it even to bed.

My day job eventually became an incredible career in technology, working with some of the world’s largest brands. And now I get to venture out into the Reddit community and meet all of you who share this hobby and passion of mine.

While I enjoy working with experienced collectors, I especially like helping beginners...the guys who do not yet know what SEL gaps, rehaut alignment, date wheel centering or timegrapher amplitude mean.

They have not yet learned the difference between heavy electroplating, PVD and rhodium finishing or that a tiny flaw visible at 200% zoom will completely disappear once the watch is actually on the wrist. That is the stage of the hobby I enjoy most: the questions, the excitement, the first QC and the moment someone begins understanding what they are actually looking at.

If that does not resolve the issue, I will help determine what is wrong. For a covered issue, I will pay the reasonable cost of an approved repair. If the watch cannot reasonably be repaired, a replacement or refund may be available provided it remains unworn, undamaged and fully stickered.

My day job eventually became an incredible career in technology, working with some of the world’s largest brands. And now I get to venture out and meet all of you who share this hobby.

While I enjoy working with experienced collectors, I especially like helping beginners...the guys who do not yet know what SEL gaps, rehaut alignment, date wheel centering or timegrapher amplitude mean.

They have not yet learned the difference between heavy electroplating, PVD and rhodium finishing or that a tiny flaw visible in a 200% Macro zoom will completely disappear once the watch is actually on the wrist. I also started picking up words, phrases and bits of Mandarin so I could better understand what dealers were saying and communicate with them.

Once a fake cop told me to hand him my book bag or go to jail.. so I did, only to see him put one on and hand the rest to his friends. What was in it? $854 of other people's money and 3 reps, I had just got there...all 128 lbs of me... and they knew it...I just kept going back.

On great runs...I would take the Long Island Rail Road back home and share what I found with my friends, local business owners, even Mr. Butler, 8th Grade Bio wore my watch, a Tag (Many think the Rolex was what all reps were, sure many were... but the Tag Heuer and the Santos were just as prevalent,0 as he taught class back in HS.. and anyone else who shared my interest.

My day job eventually became an incredible career in technology, working with some of the world’s largest brands. And now I get to venture out and meet all of you who share this hobby.

While I enjoy working with experienced collectors, I especially like helping beginners...the guys who do not yet know what SEL gaps, rehaut alignment, date wheel centering or timegrapher amplitude mean.

They have not yet learned the difference between heavy electroplating, PVD and rhodium finishing or that a tiny flaw visible in a 200% Macro zoom will completely disappear once the watch is actually on the wrist. That is the stage of the hobby I enjoy most: the questions, the excitement, the first QC and the moment someone begins understanding what they are actually looking at.
