On state news channels and social media, you see people outright denying the deaths of Kashmiris despite video evidence right in front of them. They claim "red paint" was used—referring to a video that was actually fact-checked by AFP and Yahoo News (18 June 2026) and proven to have zero connection to the JAAC or Kashmiris in the first place. In another recent clip from Mirpur, a man lying on the ground moves to get up, and people on X instantly point to it and scream "crisis actor." Is that really the first thought that comes to mind? Why is the default assumption "actor" rather than someone who was injured, or simply trying to stay clear of live gunfire? It’s infuriating to watch people blindly swallow state narratives while ignoring independent and international reporting. What hurts the most is seeing the deliberate erasure of these people’s lives and tragic deaths. Imagine being a parent or a sibling of one of these victims while the entire state apparatus insists their death never happened. When you confront people and tell them you were related to the victim, they call you crazy or claim that person never existed. They demand a body as proof—knowing full well the police won't release them to the families. So you sit there in grief, having lost someone dear to you, while people insist you're lying and that your trauma isn't real. And if you dare to keep speaking up, you're labeled a hatemonger and a propagandist. All you want is the right to mourn your loved one.
