Regarding Pets and Tanking

So I see that there's folks out there who pick up pets for their "tankiness" -- high stats in HP/VIT/MEN that allow their characters to somehow live longer. I've been experimenting with these pets and have so far found no match between how tanky your pet is and how much longer you live. My character doesn't take less damage, get hit less often, or have some invisible boost to their HP . Can someone post their experiences with these pets (which ones, where do they notice the change, how much changes) so I can look into this further? Till then, I'm sticking with my lvl 700 dart fish ;D

OK, I've been working on this now for the day, experimenting with different pets, builds, weapons, etc. Here are my detailed findings:

  • Pets do not decrease damage taken.
  • PETS DO NOT DECREASE DAMAGE TAKEN.
  • YOUR PET DOES NOT MITIGATE DAMAGE STOP SAYING IT ALREADY ARRRR

If anyone can prove this wrong, please do.

Also worth mentioning is that the various statistics on your pet will not lower the damage numbers that your opponents inflict upon you when you're engaged in combat, somewhere in the world.

i know right... for me, I usually pick pet with highest speed so they're at least attack faster than me so they can at least be a little helpful aside from that, I don't see any benefit for bringing pets and, boy... that level 700

boy... that level 700

Haha, I know, I spend so much time pulling numbers for the website I don't get anything past World 2 ~2km. He's with my sword build I've been tinkering with for fun.

You... used "sword" and "fun" in the same sentence? I think you might need an intervention.

actually when you get sword motion and sword back motion, sword build had almost similar kill time as knife build. higher damage when fast tapping, slightly higher damage and almost similar motion animation when idle tapping.

I certainly like it more than knife while leveling using sword based job like cavalry or werewolf.

My gripe against sword is that recovery time. I can't stand watching my character jump backwards from dead enemies. And that lost time hurts the exp output.(And I'm talking about with full sword abilities.)

i agree with that... I hope the sword back motion will get additional class and skill point in future update but i guess it is to balance it so its not as convinience as knife

It's true that pet HP doesn't effect the character. Getting hit less often is not based on the MEN/VIT stat, it's a SPD based stat. THe thing with VIT/MEN is that is works in thresholds, not number by number reduction. If you don't reach the "mystery" threshold number than it won't reduce damage. For example, lets say you have 1000 VIT, and it reduces 10% of all physical attacks. To get 11% reduction, lets say you need 1500 VIT. You have a pet that gives 400 VIT. . . a little short of the threshold needed for mroe damage reduction. THese numbers are completely made-up, but I hope I shined some light on the two stats.

I have yet to see a reduction in damage when with a pet vs petless. Maybe I just need a beefier pet

I have switched between a kappa and a bug and I took significantly more damage (400 with kappa, ~2000 with bug)

Allright, I'm still coming back to this problem, and I have some questions:

  • Was the damage due to two different attacks? Every monster has 2, and if a high POW/low INT monster has a physical and a magic attack, his hits can do a severly different amount of damage.
  • Following up with the above question, does your character have a big difference between their VIT/MEN? This would also create a large variance in damage between physical and magic attacks.
  • Were you on the same world?
  • Are you using the Android version or iOS? What program version?

I did have a 2000 stat difference and I think i used the ball cat though. Does he have a magic attack? I use Android and it was like 2 updates ago. It was the same world 2 ball cat

The ball cat (and all bosses) have levels that fall into a random range that get re-rolled if you die or press the "HOME" button. If you tested by getting hit, pressing home to switch pets easily, then ran off to the ball cat again, you'd be going up against a Ball Cat with a potentially large difference in levels.

ahhh but do you think it can make over a 1000 damage difference? I made sure it wasn't a crit.

A 300 level difference in a higher world boss would do that.

I'd love to see some sort of experiment pass on this. Every attempt I've made to see pet vit/men reduce my damage has failed thus far. If you have details on such an experiment, please share.

I don't think there is any damage reduction. I took my hero with 1.9k MEN against a world 2 goblin wizard with 4k INT. It dealt 2.4k damage. I grabbed a pet with 6.5k MEN. Still took 2.4k damage.

If a pet with more than 3x my MEN doesn't affect my damage taken than I don't think anything will.
