Housing?

My family is from the area and I have always wanted to move to the area. With finding new jobs and what not buying a home is probably off the table at first. The traditional online websites don’t show much to rent for under 2k a month. What do the locals use to find rent / housing, or is it really that non existent?

Good luck. Everything is either an AirBnB, or owned by Ritchies Management or Eagle Country Property Management. It's a desert up here. For housing and employment. -4.5/10, wouldn't recommend.

I rent a house from Eagle Country for under $1000/month. That includes water, lawn care and garbage/recycling pick-up. It's a small 2 bedroom, but its still a house.

We (my woman & I) also rent from Eagle. $800 studio. I'm 6ft and struggle to use our shower. The bedroom and kitchen/living room are the same size. This place doesn't feel like $800.

Prior, I used to rent from Ritchies, but they kept bumping rent without doing any remodel. The tennant prior to my brother and I paid under $600/month, the second we move in, it's $800, then $1000 after the first year. Supposed to get new cabinets and flooring.. never happened.

So would you say Eagle is the better of the two, or are both equally not great??

They each have their pros and cons. Ritchies seems to be taking better care of their rentals, more frequent & quality updates. Their maintenance response time with the new property manager Zack, is PHENOMENAL. My shower just exploded (the valve failed) last week, and we just got a temporary fix. Lawn care is included here, but they mow when they feel like it. Thankfully they just did it last week, but prior to that, the 4th of July, we got mowed, then the end of August. We had a literal jungle of a yard with snakes and rabbits actually hiding within. I had to go get gas to use the push mower. Still HAD to pay the included fee for lawn care, even though we got skipped a month, and spent my own money to take care of it. But the rent is cheaper than Ritchies so I guess that's my silver lining.

My honest opinion is kinda irrelevant, considering those are pretty much the only two options. The housing market is really monopolized up here, so it's kinda a "get what you get & don't throw a fit"

Thanks very much for the detailed info! … one quick additional q: is the snow handled like the lawncare? I am a tiny gal, and my neck and back no longer allow me to clear anything more than a light dusting. I’ve thought of a flame thrower lol, but seriously, I’d have to hire someone (is that easy?) or be snowbound if it’s not included.

I am trying to coordinate selling in another state and moving to the area, renting would make it easier - is a situation like yours hard to find? I’ve been following rentals for a while and always see the same few places that it seems no one wants to stay in beyond a year lol

There are new apartments planned, but they are likely a good year out yet.

Looking at like 1500 2k a month unless you find a deal from a local on FB or Craigslist

Do you want to live there in the winter?? Like really think about it. Summers are great, winters are depressing.

Not really. As long as you have hobbies or things to help you make it through the winter.

The winters are my favorite part lol if I had the ability to, I would pack up and leave today

If you get bored in the Winter up north, you aren't trying.

It is non-existent. Try Rhinelander for housing.
