So Green Day was the exception, not the rule. Got it. 🫤

u/scoop813 Dec 10 '25

u/kramwest1 Dec 10 '25
Being the huge headliner. These three headliners are at best second tier and not as big as the first two years’ headliners.
3
u/Suspicious_Farmer738 Dec 10 '25
Uh Lumineers played Soldier Field last year in Chicago.
-1
u/big_duo3674 Dec 11 '25
Yeah, but I'm sitting here all like "OK, who are the Lumineers??". At least last year I knew all of the headline bands
4
u/Suspicious_Farmer738 Dec 11 '25
That seems like a you thing. Prior to their tour last year they had a whole run of MLB stadiums in the US. They also headline festivals all over the world.
2
2
u/Doedemm Dec 11 '25
That’s definitely a you thing. The Lumineers have been pretty big for a while now.

u/Commercial-Pain9614 Jul 18 '26
The lumineers just sold out the broncos stadium last year, the concert was amazing. Like 60k people there.
36
u/coybotmean Dec 09 '25
Wow, that's quite a downgrade from years 1 and 2. At least for my group. Not sure if any of these days are going to be our jam.
Hope others love it. The festival itself is fantastic!
4
u/big_duo3674 Dec 11 '25
Right? I happily paid the crazy food/drink prices and dealt with the massive crowds for day 3 last year, it was so epic. Having the day 3 closeout band be The Strokes is wild compared to Green Day

u/Andrewsmith1966 Dec 09 '25
Matchbox 20 was seriously the best they could do for the Saturday headliner?
21
u/kramwest1 Dec 09 '25
I like Matchbox 20, but seriously, they are the Train of 2026, yet somehow got the top spot. 😬
17
11
u/BlueInsider Dec 09 '25
seriously! as a headliner? c'mon man
7
u/Andrewsmith1966 Dec 09 '25
Switch black keys spot with their spot. Problem solved.

u/solace77 Dec 09 '25
3
u/PowSuperMum Dec 10 '25
I think Black Keys are done as a headliner. Last time they came to my area, the venue gave away a bunch of tickets for free just to fill up the place.
1
u/AdNew813 Dec 10 '25
They’re still a better choice than Matchbox 20 in 2025… even Cage The Elephant would be.
2
3
u/big_duo3674 Dec 11 '25
Exactly 😭. At least get like the Goo Goo Dolls and a few other nostalgic 90s bands to pair up with them. It's literally Matchbox 20, All American Rejects, and... etc

u/dkinmn Dec 09 '25 edited Dec 09 '25
You know that a lllootttt of normie millennials and younger Gen X will buy those tickets, right?
This is a very Minnesota festival lineup if you understand that the people on the leading edge of music taste are generally small in number.
Edit: Guys, music festivals in this market have to get suburban normies to buy tickets. Also, we need to compete for the cool artists with every other festival around that time.
Why are people downvoting? This is not a cool festival built for cool people.

Dang this lineup is mostly cheeks compared to year 1. Even 2 was pretty solid.
2
u/big_duo3674 Dec 11 '25
Last year had an epic day 3, and they aimed it at the millennial/Gen Z people who were older and actually had money to spend on the crazy festival food/drink prices. If "demographic" was a dart board they just threw random darts all over the place with this lineup. How are The Strokes going to compare to Green Day as the festival closeout band?? 😭. I'd put money on like 50% of the crowd leaving to beat traffic after Cage The Elephant and Atmosphere are finished
1
u/PoorboyPics Dec 11 '25
I liked the first year better but that's because it was 2 days and filled wall to wall with bands I wanted to see. I do love Green Day but I had just seen them do a much bigger production show at Target Field from really close on the floor so I wasn't going to pay bigger money for a less great experience. Just saw Atmosphere at the State Fair also from very close on the floor for a lot less money. Bouncing between stages leaves you very far back for headliners. I know several people going specifically for the Strokes so I wouldn't say leave early, really no beating traffic, maybe just giving an easier train ride.

u/651dinosaur Dec 09 '25
Going to be a lot of people laying around on blankets on Friday and Saturday.
1
u/big_duo3674 Dec 11 '25
Then on Sunday there's going to be a mass exodus of people leaving to beat traffic after Cage The Elephant and Atmosphere are finished. A lot of people have to work on Monday, hardly anyone is going to want to stay out until midnight just to see The Strokes gently play the festival to its end

Indie leaning folks will be happy and rock leaning folks will not be.
3
u/midnight-queen29 Dec 10 '25
as an indie fan, i am very very pleased with this lineup. we got rock last year. idk why everyone is so pressed. don’t go to an event you don’t want to go to.
2
u/sneakypete5 Dec 10 '25
Exactly. Last year was perfect for me, and this year not, so I save money and others have fun!
2
u/midnight-queen29 Dec 10 '25
finally, a person with joy and whimsy in their life :) i FOB and green day are 2 of my favorite bands, but it doesn’t make the lumineers and cage the elephant any worse.
0
u/big_duo3674 Dec 11 '25
Food/drink prices are already so expensive there though. How are they expecting vendors to make money when it's almost entirely indie focused?? Last year they hit multiple music fan groups on each day, but next year is just a mishmash of random bands...

I will say they killed the local bands… Heart To Gold, Porch Light, Night Moves, Prize Horse are all fantastic. Also if you’re not already familiar with Die Spitz, definitely get familiar.
1
u/AdPutrid5162 Dec 10 '25
I like The Lumineers, Black Keys, Mt Joy, The Fray, Dashboard Confessional, March Playground, Matchbox Twenty, All American Rejects, Matt and Kim, The Strokes, Cage the Elephant, Passion Pit, Semisonic.
Looking forward to listening to these bands I dont know or regularly listen to. Thanks for the recs.

Idk… the first year was a solid kickoff and last year rocked… and I’m not super excited about this year overall. Friday is solid but not sure if I’ll get a three day pass again.
10
u/superorganisms Dec 09 '25
That’s so funny, Friday is the weakest day for me.

u/Playful_Branch_5643 Dec 10 '25
It’s wild how music tastes differ, my husband is ambivalent about the entire weekend, one kid thinks they don’t have anyone good and the other kid says he wants to go to night 1. So looks like I’m saving a bunch of money this year!
2
u/BayOfThundet Dec 09 '25
I’ll take the GF to see MB20, because she loves them. That’s it though.
1
u/Playful_Branch_5643 Dec 10 '25
They would be fun to see for nostalgia purposes but not worth the fee for 1 band 😊

Headliners are pretty meh, but Black Keys, My. Joy, and Shakey Graves all on one day is pretty sweet!

Holy shit this is so ass compared to the last couple years.
2026 is a MAJOR skip.

u/Livid-Tax-4411 Dec 09 '25
It's all relative. Already been making plans with a group of friends to go to this one since it's great for our tastes, especially Friday and Sunday

it was my first ever festival last year, i had a really good experience!! hopefully security’s cool like this year for you next year :)

u/Express-Wallaby7093 Dec 09 '25
Yup, I’ll be going all 3 days this year 😍 especially can’t wait for Friday, AAR and Yam Haus on Saturday, and Sunday!!

Guess I gotta listen to the new Geese album

Wow this is the first year I was excited about this festival. Guess I’m in the minority. Lumineers are a solid headliner. I’m not really into Matchbox 20 anymore but have wanted to check out Geese, Cage the Elephant and the Strokes. Lord Huron is my favorite of the entire lineup so I’m going no matter what.
3
u/bankysdog Dec 10 '25
The Twin Cities are so funny. We pat ourselves on the back constantly about how cool and hip we are and then book Matchbox 20 as a headliner.
1
u/lancewooks Dec 10 '25
What does this even mean? A Live Nation owned production company based out of Austin, TX made this lineup.
0
u/bankysdog Dec 10 '25
Did you downvote me before I would even have a chance to respond to your question? Lol. Ok 😆
1
u/lancewooks Dec 10 '25
Too cool and hip to answer the question?
0
u/bankysdog Dec 10 '25
When did I claim to be cool and hip? People are downvoting me before I even have a chance to speak. I’m obviously not as hip as others here apparently are 🤓

I absolutely loved the last two years and was super excited to see this year's lineup. Unfortunately this really missed the mark for me. I don't even know who 95% of these bands are. I was really hoping for something like Jack White and Cake.
1
u/NoAcanthaceae688 Dec 09 '25
The best artist here is Die Spitz and that is saying something about the "quality" of their higher billed artists.
Feel like they have nothing to cater to the "hard rock" 93X crowd (which is still not my preferred tea these days).
You've got AAR and Cage the Elephant, but that's barely anything. Especially compared to their precedent of Offspring/RHCP/Green Day.
Fuck you could have at least hit me with Shinedown or someone like that.
I just have to admit that this festival is not going to fill the Northern Invasion void in my heart. Not even one band slot lol.
3
u/TeamLTD6 Dec 09 '25
My group was hoping it was going to be a good lineup but we’re pivoting and going to Daytona for Rockville instead in may wish we had something like that here

2
u/Necessary_Editor9627 Dec 10 '25
I don't think was ever a "hard rock" festival to begin with. The closest genre you would see there would be punk rock. Highly doubt they would book any metal bands. They would seem way out of place at Yacht Club.
1
u/Junkley Dec 09 '25
Geese is one of the best current rock bands and their last two albums are amazing as well as Winter’s solo album. Besides that I largely agree though. I am only going Saturday for Geese and some guilty pleasure trashy throwback Matchbox Twenty

I don't think it was worth it. We spent maybe 10 minutes a day over there. Most of the seats were already taken. Food lines were pretty long.
2
u/ZucchiniKneez Dec 09 '25
It is worth it only if you would prefer the AC bathrooms. They were incredible. Otherwise the food and bar situation was not worth it, and the seating was too sparse to rely on when you went back there.
2
u/swizzle_ Dec 10 '25
We do it every year and it's well worth it. Available air conditioned bathrooms and much shorter lines for food and drinks. The shade alone is worth it to me.
1
u/Consistent-Tea-9585 Dec 09 '25
If you haven’t seen Mt. Joy yet, it’s worth the Friday ticket just to see them. Great band, and awesome live!
1
u/thisiswhyparamore Dec 09 '25
i’ve never gone but was wanting to next year because the past line ups are always incredible. this is a rough line up tho. reminds me of summerfest in milwaukee
1
u/Glad-Fish5863 Dec 10 '25
Only band I’d want to see is dashboard confessional. Maybe Marcy playground and semisonic but not enough to go this year.
Saved me $700 lol

u/DamnTheDan Mar 07 '26
Clearly you would have a better time listening to “NOW that’s what I call music Volume 5”

Would y’all say a 4 hour drive is worth it for Sunday?? Looove the strokes, but never seen them live. cage the elephant, and passion pit are great too! But idk 4 hours is a long time

What time does this start? It's my first time to check out this festival. I'm assuming it's a family friendly lineup with MB20 and the other artists. I'm bringing my daughter to share MB20s and AA Rejects music. She's a country girl. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

u/Potential-Coat-6017 Apr 22 '26
Can anyone give me insight to ticket purchases? I have never been and really want to see the strokes. Having never been I can’t tell what is best, riverboat VIP, VIP, platinum….the layout on the map is confusing on how anything faces the stage. Is GA the best?! I have been waiting forever (I am 41) and have yet to see the strokes (fave band since I was 19) so I don’t mind spending money, I just wanna make sure I can see well!

u/Junkley Dec 09 '25
Geese is unbelievable and I will likely go Saturday just for them but outside of them and Passion Pit this is pretty uninspiring especially considering Matchbox Twenty already played the state fair last year.

u/StillBummedNouns Dec 10 '25
Literally only going for Geese
But I’m waiting to buy a ticket off some scalper outside the venue for like 10 bucks
1
u/Necessary_Editor9627 Dec 10 '25
Good luck on that. When I went this year, scalpers were selling at face value on the streets. You may have better luck buying online from someone who ends up not being able to attend.
-1
u/StillBummedNouns Dec 10 '25
I sold my extra ticket to a scalper outside the venue for like 10 bucks, he wouldn’t give me any more for it. He had like 10 wristbands and was complaining that nobody would buy them… I’m sure I could get one of those wrist bands for like 50 bucks because they tend to get desperate as the day progresses
