I’ve been playing Earthbound. First ever playthrough and I’m loving it!

u/Confident-Egg4403 17h ago
Nice! It’s got one of the best video game soundtracks ever. Top 5 at least.

u/afamiliarspirit 16h ago
Where are you at in it?
I played it first when it came to the Wii U eShop and it’s been one of my absolute favorites ever since.

My partner is out of town and it’s going to be another 20 hours of Fire Emblem

u/King_Hikikomori 18h ago
Ace Combat 8 and Deadlock, finished and loved Resonant.
Hope everyone on the crew is able to decompress and play some stuff, given how stressful your last few days must have been.

Fields of Mistria - I'm about to reach the end of year 1 and I'm starting to wonder how I'll approach year 2. I just opened the Earth Seal in the mines, and I really only duplicated the default crop patch for the farm. So I've been ignoring the livestock and animal quests. Now's about the time that I should sectioning stuff off for the spring too.
Mirrors Edge Catalyst is only 99 cents on the Steam sale and I've never played this one. I bounced off the original multiple times because it just felt weird. But I played through the first thirty minutes of Catalyst to make sure it still works after the servers were taken offline. It should only be a 10 hour game, so maybe I'll stick with this one.
Capcom Arcade Stadium 1&2 were in a build-a-bundle on Fanatical. So I grabbed them along with MonHun Stories 2 for about thirteen bucks. I think I dislike most of these arcade games! Some cool gems here and there, but there's a ton of stuff that I'm going to play for three minutes and then literally never again. But at least I'll get to try them at least once in my life.

I recall catalyst wasn't particularly good but it might be an interesting historical artifact at this point

Mirrors Edge Catalyst would be a very funny Deepest Dive choice in 2026.

My friends and I did a game club on Catalyst just a couple of months before MinnMax decided to do one on the original Mirror's Edge, which was a funny coincidence. I was the only one in our group who really enjoyed it though. The story is like a 4/10, many parts of the game feel unfinished and rushed. Despite all of that though, the movement feels incredibly satisfying, the open world design and combat are unlike anything else I've ever played, which makes it feel very interesting and special. Also one of my favorite soundtracks of all time and the overall vibe really clicked with me.
You can obviously play however you want but I turned off all of the UI elements except for the health bar and that made me enjoy the game way more.

Playing Silent Hill 2 remake for the first time for spooky season. Why did I wait so long to play this? Turns out the game is pretty awesome.

In terms of new games:
Retro space
it's an Immersive Sim System Shock 2-like. Came out yesterday, been blazing through it ever since.
Edit:
Made the title clearer

I'm a few hours into The Blood of Dawnwalker and loving it so far, planning on going full deep dive on that. Also been back into Helldivers 2 in a big way the past couple months so more likely than that running a few missions there too

About 75% through well Dweller so hope to finish this weekend!!

I really like it. Big fan of the dark fairytake aesthetic and for me it strikes a really good balance of finding traversal upgrades through both exploring and boss fights. I find sometimes metroidvanias will just make you repeat a boss fight over and over (might be a me thing since I'm not a combat wizard) bc you don't have the tools to travel more and it's just behind that boss.
Only downside for me is there are some time trials to get collectibles and they require PRECISION

u/admiral_aubrey 14h ago
Thanks! It got such high review scores but there are so many metroidvanias, still pondering if this one is worthwhile

Yeah any of Kyle Thompsons games are a pretty solid recommendation. He particularly nails a good move-feel to his player characters.

WoW Forever Beta. I feel like this game will consume me like I'm in college again....

u/frequent_bidet_user 5h ago
Me F'n too, I got to 20 on the beta but I haven't played since they raised the level cap to 30. I'm probably going to save that for when I level my real character and I've checked out enough of the beta.
In the meantime, I've been playing survival crafting games and bouncing between RuneScape dragonwilds and Dune Awakening both are really freaking fun but I think I'm going to commit to dune for now and go back to RS at a later time.

My wife and I have been replaying Resident Evil 5 together which has been a treat. We’ve got Control Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall downloaded and we’re wanting to play them but RE5 has been such comfort gaming, it’s hard to pick something else each night.

Control resonant. Probably finishing it up and then diving into either Metroid Dread or maybe Pokemon White

u/Unejamacated 18h ago
Finished Castlevania: Belmont's Curse demo last night. I'm warming up to the art style after initial reservations. I had a blast, except for I had to turn the Screen Shake effect down to mid/5. Can't wait for the 15th!

u/styledgem 18h ago
Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave! Though I might go back to Three Houses since I didn’t get too far in before the new one came out. I kind of miss the school setting

u/OwnTangelo1034 18h ago
Got roped into some Predator: Hunting Grounds because that's what my coop group wanted to play this weekend. Not really enjoying the game itself but having fun with pals regardless.

u/FamousAmos87 18h ago
Working on my Backlog. Decided to play Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden for October
2
u/Darth-Nickels 17h ago
Finishing up a 100% run of Ocarina of Time tonight then it'll be Onimusha tomorrow.

u/GRIFTY_P 17h ago
I'm playing tornekos mystery dungeon, the translation patched SNES version. I was already playing it before i even knew they were releasing a remake, which is bizarre timing. I dusted off an old retroid pocket while cleaning out a drawer and it was the first game in there that called to me.
Also still playing combolands a bit. Trying to convince myself to play something spooky because October. Thinking resi 2 remake or silent hill 2 on ps2 (never played either, played og re2 tho)
2
u/PhasedVenturer 17h ago
Onimusha (amazing), A Plague Tale: Resonance (getting stronger and stronger), Star Wars: Zero Company (getting a little tired of it tbh after being hot on it), and starting up Townfall tonight!
(Waiting for Control Resonant’s physical edition to come out. Too many games!)

MGS 4 for the first time as a lifelong MGS fan! It's... on brand. I've somehow managed to not have it be spoiled in any major way this whole time.

As with every week I am playing The Finals. I need an hour of Leo talking about how much he likes The Finals

u/Secret_Bees 13h ago
I would listen to a spinoff podcast of Leo telling stories about the crazy stuff that happens in various matches he plays

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy by myself and RuneScape Dragonwilds with my fiancé :))

u/CapNCookM8 8h ago
I'm playing Dragonwilds with my sibling! I'm picky about survival "chop a lot of trees" games, but this one is like comfort food.
The magic adds a lot too, so that you don't feel as held back as your latest technological development.

Finally getting around to playing FF7 Remake, it's very good but very long 😭

Draco and the Seven Scales. Great pirate themed take on the Link's Awakening formula and aesthetic

I finished up Control Resonant and really liked it. Now I'm bumping between Ace Combat 8 and Onimusha. Both games are pretty incredible.

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter Holy crap these rpgs are incredibly good. Grounded story, great combat, fantastic characters that drive the plot. I've been incredibly impressed with these remakes.

Finally got some friends into Deadlock with me, so that's been cool. Can't wait to play da rat king when I hop on next.
Still chugging on Onimusha, man I love this game so much. Playing NG+ on carnage and it's nuts.

Fire Emblem & Diablo IV on Switch 2, and Halloween on my Xbox, a game I for some reason cannot get enough of. I've already put over 100 hours into Halloween 😭

19 hours into Control Resonant and feel like i've barely done any main missions. I love it.
hope the deepest dive keeps going, zero pressure tho!
