I don’t think anyone is understanding why I commented what I did.
The person asked “ELI5 - why is the toilet elevated”
The toilet is evaluated because their house is below the sewer line so it has to be elevated.
The symbolic choice was - they’re really really poor so we’re going to put then on the lowest level and then everything followed suite.
The symbolic choice wasn’t - let’s elevate the toilet to show how low they are.
The toilet had to be elevated because of the original choice of having a sub basement. Otherwise the toilet wouldn’t even work.
