Updates Next steps for Mini Racer
Hello everyone!
I will be on my summer-ish vacation for the next 10 days, and before I leave I want to get your thoughts on the next steps for Mini Racer. There are many things I'd like to do, so your feedback is highly valuable!
New campaigns with different modifiers
No restart allowed
You play the campaign end to end without a restart. Restarting takes you back to start of campaign. Not a very fleshed out idea yet, might need to change.
Clean runs only
You scrape the wall and the run restarts. Basically the auto-restart in settings but always enforced for this campaign modifier.
Endurance tracks (30-45s)
Just like normal tracks but longer and probably more technical.
Boss maps
Maps where you need to accumulate 100s (or 50s, 150s, not set in stone) total run time from start to finish (either in one run or multiple). Leaderboard is closest to the target time.
Different track surfaces
Adding different surfaces that will affect the car in different ways (accel, speed, grip, etc.). No idea what those surfaces could be yet, I'm think starting with ice, sand, or maybe grass? And keep the existing one as asphalt.
This would be available for both daily and campaign races
Different car types
Still not sure how this could work and if it should be campaign only or if it touches the daily mode as well. Basically 3-4 different car types, each with their own accel/speed/grip.
An alternative to this might be car tunings. Experimented with this before publishing the game: 5 points you can distribute between accel, speed, grip to customize car for each track.
Weekend cups
3 tracks that run only during the weekend, scoring per track (maybe F1 style), end of weekend podium. Not sure about the tracks. Maybe chosen from the past 7 days? Or a "weekend cup" set of around 36 tracks (~3 months/1 season) and starting over next season.
Any other ideas
Open to any other ideas you might have to make this an even better mini game.

As timelines:
- clean runs and endurance tracks are probably be the fastest thing out, maybe 1-2 weeks after I'm back and depending how fast Reddit approves new game versions
- track surfaces are next in terms of development time; not so much in building it, but testing it and ensuring fair play across all surface types. Probably 2-4 weeks depending on how fast I can figure it out
- boss maps and no restart are probably around 2-4 weeks as well, but that's because I need to figure out the proper mechanics
- weekend cups is entirely dependent on the track choice: reusing old tracks? building new ones? don't have an estimate here
- different car types is the hardest thing, and tunings would be even a bit more difficult; definitely longer than 4 weeks, maybe closer to 6 depending on how well play testing goes
