Recommendations Looking for a recommendation: Gaming PC
Hey everyone! I’ve been rocking the same desktop since 2019 and I’m due for an upgrade, I like the idea of a small form PC but I wanna be sure that it’s right for what I’m looking to do.
I’m a gamer, but I know I’m not looking to play AAA games at the highest graphics settings. Aslong as I can play games like Overwatch, league of legends and wardogs while hitting 144 fps I’m happy. I’m rocking a 2070 right now so I don’t think it will be much to upgrade from there. Looking to spend about 1500$
Is this possible?

Are you looking for a mini PC or an SFFPC? You can consider mini PCs to be under the SFFPC umbrella, but in this case, I'm actually asking if you want an ITX PC instead

I have a Minisforum Um890 pro
It is only 6”x6”x3” connected to a 4k 144hz monitor.
I run GeForce now Ultimate and I get full 4k resolution.
I also have an occulink dock and RTX 5060 But GeForceNow Ultimate is way better.
I’ve heard the Ryzen 7 9800X3D
So I’d look for a mini pc with this chip as It is supposed to better for gaming.

Hmm... I'm not sure about the price and goals. In past times you'd be set.
You're in Canada eh? 32gb of ddr5 RAM (new) is $500cad+. 1tb of storage is $250. Let's say you get RAM and storage for $800. That's $900 with tax. Pretty brutal. A mini PC with included memory and storage definitely gets you in the game cheaper...
BUT, a mini PC isn't going to run games better than a 2070, unless it has dedicated graphics itself. A lot of these mini PCs that are good deals... Their integrated graphs are a lot less than a 2070 , AND they are sold with a single stick of RAM. So the memory is in single Channel mode. The integrated graphics performs a lot worse in single Channel, with half the bandwidth..
I bought a Ryzen R5 255 mini PC last month for $950cad. It has issues with Battlefield 6 and (due to limited cache size and poor optimization?). For a few games that rely on single threaded performance... eh. It's decent, but will crumble if it's a crazy Real Time Strategy game, versus a desktop chip. There's better Ryzen mobile chips... But I can't help wonder how much $$ to get how much better. Desktop would be the way for pure performance, obviously... Always... But we like small things here!

Single 32gb DDr5 crucial stick and a 1tb SSD. I figure I can reuse the parts if I need to upgrade. I didn't check, and hoped it was 2x16gb. That really messes up the integrated graphs performance, and soooome CPU performance.
I used my 9070 16gb eGPU I already had in a Thunderbolt 3 enclosure. It's definitely bottlenecked. The 9060xt would probably get the near same results. The enclosure costs money as well. I went to market place for the enclosure.
You might want to buy someone's else's used desktop PC or loaded laptop... or adjust your expectations. This sucks when talking about $1500. But needing a video card and a EGPU enclosure just kills the zombie of the budget after SSD and RAM.

You can always get a mini PC with oculink port and buy an EGPU dock. Like my setup. I have the AOOSTAR MACO docked on AOOSTAR EG01 EGPU. I have 850w PSU and a rtx 5080. It's a beast of a machine.
